  • In this video I explain how I stone veneer a wall. I show all the tools you need to get the job done, and how I mix the mortar. Then I show how I lay the stones on the wall, and clean out the joints. Next I teach you how I grout and point the joints after laying all the stone. Thanks for watching!

Great video Mason. I noticed that you used different bonding agents for the Mortar and the stone. Is this be design or is there no issue using the same bonding agent for the mortar and the stone?

Very helpful videos. First time doing masonry work and building an outdoor fireplace.
Are you adding any color to the mortar? I don’t want everything to look like gray concrete in between the stone. Thanks!

Do you find dry stack to be easier or more difficult than a grouted look?

Grout bag you'll be there forever like that. Then use a wire brush once it sets up and you can push it in with a slicker if you want to

Mason, I’m just curious, I come from commercial FRAMING mainly. I just started with a new company doing residential and commercial renovation and remodel. I’m doing stone columns currently. I’ve NEVER done any masonry before. Do you have any tips for “speeding up” I feel I’m just goin super slow? But also feel I’m doing what I see everyone else doing? Currently I’m covering 4 columns that are 16”x16” and 10’ tall. I’m averaging about half a column per 10 hour day…. Would you consider that slow? I’ve had comments that my work looks great, but I worry I’m slow? You definitely do great work and I’ve learned a bit from you in the last couple weeks!

Speed comes with time. It’s more important to do it properly.

You can start off fast but it will look like shit and you will make a lot of mistakes. Kinda like driving once you get good you can race. Or use some of that nailable shit.

Sometimes you put a screen on the wall first. Is this only for larger jobs.
