    Shouldn't the scratch coat lines run horizontal? those seem to be vertical.

  • @jesseledford8850

    And second of all when he's adding the stone someone finally used a real scratch but then did vertical scratch coat that doesn't hold as good

    If I cement stone directly on my brick exterior wall, will it not cause any moisture problems? Will I need some sort of rain system or moisture barrier?

    • @seanm3226
      @seanm3226 Před 3 lety

      No, just use a bonding agent (glue) on the brick prior to a scratch coat.

  • @bernardoilustre9727
    @bernardoilustre9727 Před 6 lety

    it can be applied directly to bricks or we have to do the scratch again

  • @odiegladstone8131
    @odiegladstone8131 Před 7 lety +1

    Can this be applied directly onto stucco without first having to do the waterproofing and scratch coat?

    • @rodrigoflores811
      @rodrigoflores811 Před 7 lety +2

      The stucco is already water proof. And you can set it on the stucco it will still grip and stick good

    • @Smokey420Greenleaf
      @Smokey420Greenleaf Před 7 lety +2

      yes it can. the scratch coat is the first step in a stucco job (after lathe and tar paper) and most stucco finishes are rough enough to work as their own scratch coat, or can easily be scored with an angle grinder to obtain the same effect as lathe/scratch.

    • @lunarmist428

      if it's painted you need to re-cover with a bonding agent.....Weldcrete

      Rae Young is it as sturdy as brick... my house is getting rebricked due to tornado.. i want to go with this instead of brick. will it hold up like brick.. thanks

    • @StoneMillOK
      @StoneMillOK  Před 7 lety +2

      Christopher Lane Yes it is just as sturdy. Just make sure the installation is done correctly. Using a grout between the stone will ensure its sturdiness.

    It is difficult to install the stone veneer without the stones coming loose during installation.

    • @StoneMillOK
      @StoneMillOK  Před 7 lety +1

      JN 2013 Make sure the mortar mix ratios are correct. You might be using too much or too little water and/or sand.

    It doesn't take a "Stonemason" to fit this stuff just good common sense,,,,a good "Tyler" would suffice mined you watch those whom claim the hourly rate,,,,and above""""working this out not by meter but by workmanship and one wanting to retain his or her credibilty,,,,the end eqasion is simple cost of goods the cost of labour with a pat on the back for a job well done.

    Lath should feel rough when going UP not down.

    • @Smokey420Greenleaf
      @Smokey420Greenleaf Před 7 lety +6

      no, the lathe should feel rough when you run your hand down it. that gives the mortar more bite and supports the heavy stone better. if you run your lathe the opposite way it makes it much easier to trowel the mortar onto the wall (as most people trowel in an upward direction) but gives less support for the stones. smooth side up is generally used for stucco where there is no real load for the mortar to bear, to make troweling go faster.

    Lath should feel rough when moving your hand up not down per the Minnesota Lath and Plaster Bureau. The dimples of the lath should be on the face of the weather resistant barrier to create a pocket for the lath as well. Don’t watch CZcams for educational instruction. Read published articles by NAHB and Tradesman publications. These experts have scientific data to back up their methods not, “this is how I have always done it” type tradesman.

  • @kieranfoley9909
    @kieranfoley9909 Před 4 lety

    He is a terrible tradesman. Badly scratched. Starts to lay the stone half way up the wall. Raking out the grout with the handle of his trowel. Some of the vertical joints were tight and had no grout joints
