Recently when the craving to taste some Andhra fare hit me hard, I revisited Polamma’s Mess, a tiny eatery we showcased over a year ago as part of our initiative to support small businesses. On this visit, not only did I taste an excellent Andhra pappu, roast chicken and biryani, but it was also nice to see that things have gotten relatively better for Jagadeesh, the owner, cook, server and cashier here.

These are my favourite memories from Andhra Pradesh.
Being a vegetarian, dal rice ghee is my forte, the ultimate comfort food. So also the ongoing saga of romance with idli dosa. We visited Davanagere Benne Dose Mane 2 days ago located in JP nagar phase 1, near Indira Gandhi circle, bangalore. Neat and clean with friendly manager and cooks, it was a homely feeling. They spoilt us with love and care. Not crowded on week days making it easy to maintain Covid proper behaviour.
Their feshly ground elaichi ginger chai is to die for after equally worth dying for Benne Dose!

I am a vegetarian so dal, rice and ghee is my forte. Love for idli Dosa is on going romance. Recently visited Davanagere Benne Dose Mane located in Bangalore, JP Nagar phase 1, close to Indira Gandhi Circle. Neat snd clean, felt like I was having breakfast in my mother's house as the Manager and cooks spoiled us. No crowd on weekdays so Covid proper behaviour is easy. Their ginger elaich pounded masala chai is to die for after the crisp Benne Dose.
Hope Kripal Ji finds time to visit and showcase love and care filled little joint.

@Kripal sir again went back in memory lane as the last one at this place really enjoyed the meals and most of the andhra hotels are famous for pappu and their chutney which would be good to savour with ghee...felt homely please visit some more andhra hotels as this shoots will definitely help small eateries

When I see you eating Andhra food, I think of my friend Nalini Mohan from Guntur, who used to bring home made Prawn Pickles in Son Papri containers at school that we used to eat with South Indian Chapati and Idly for breakfast...it used to be so tasty ...I miss South Indian foods it...childhood thoughts ...I miss it so much...

It was in the year around 1985...37 years back...and Bangalore had developed into a developed city too...my Guardians were in Cox Town...I really miss ...

I still have the vivid memories of Vadas, Idlys, Samosas and Pakora reminds of Bhelpuri and Panipuri that we used to buy near our school gate, at Bishop Cotton Boys school, St.Marks Road in Bangalore. Oh! I miss my childhood days and friends, it's all because of Food Lovers. I'm so grateful to you for being my remainder for the things I used to or have eaten during childhood days.

I could have a whole bowl of the Podi Rice with Papad or the side dishes 😋😋 You need to be quick to have a crisp Papad and trust me it tastes awesome with Pappu Podi or Lentil palak Dal rice 👍 Typically I have seen you have the Papad with your Rasam rice - but the Papad may tend to get soggy by then . That wink of your eyes is good enough for us to know how much you liked the Chicken roast ( perfectly charred ) . Yes Kripal you are spot on the Pappu Rice truly is a star dish to savour and relish with the other dishes . It actually helps people living in hot areas. Eating spicy food makes us sweat more which in turn cools down the body.
Andhra fare varies in its spiciness, there are dishes that are spicy and those that aren't. And besides the ghee, you have dishes like the pappu that do rather well to soothe one's stomach. You certainly must try it, Ghungroo.

Another piece of Gyan I wanted to share is the washing of the banana leaf, after you sprinkle the water you're supposed to put that water on the table and place the leaf on it this was the leaf gets stuck to the table and won't move around 🙂🙏

I would like KA to deviate little bit. We had/having enough food stuff. Always the food is good - crispy, aroma, flavor, crunchy outside soft inside, melting in the mouth - standard words.
May he can here and there sprinkle little food for thought. He can interview the hoteliers who established Hotel Empires starting from mill - example Annapurna in Coimbatore, Saravana Bhavan (may b more appropriate Rise and Fall of Rajagopal Annachi - a life lesson also).
