- Trieste / Italy a charming and vibrant city located on the northeastern coast of Italy, where the Adriatic Sea meets the Slovenian border. In fact I arrived from Ljubljana by bus to Trieste. Trieste is somewhat of a hidden gem - a city that blends the charm of the Mediterranean with the influence of Central Europe, creating an interesting cultural fusion.
Trieste was an important center for trade and commerce. Over the centuries, the city has been influenced by various cultures, including the Romans, the Venetians, and the Austrians, each leaving their mark on the city's architecture and customs.
On our walk we see some of Trieste's most iconic landmarks like Piazza Unità d'Italia, a vast square that faces the sea and is surrounded by historic buildings. This square is said to be the largest seaside square in Europe and offers a nice view of the Gulf of Trieste.
Trieste also has lively and bustling café culture, where locals and tourists alike can enjoy ice crea, and, espresso or aperitif in one of the many cafes that line the city's streets that we will see on this walking tour.

I was there the last days of July 2022. Magnificent combination of the Adriatic sea, a beautiful and picturesque gulf, an eclectic architecture and a crossing point of cultures and Christian churches. And the immanent presence of James Joyce, everywhere.

From Trieste I went to Udine and even Venice - and back to Trieste - on the same day. Just in case you arrive early from Ljubljana like I did. I continued to Rovinj / Croatia following my 2 nights in Trieste
