Massillon vs McKinley - 2023 | HEATED AFTERNOON from the Greatest Football Rivalry in America

- It got ugly. It got embarrassing. But none the less, another chapter is in the books for the Greatest Football Rivalry in America. The heated afternoon resulted in a 35-0 Massillon win over McKinley as they improve to 10-0 on the year and keep their #1 state ranking in tact.
McKinley drops to 7-3 and still sits at #4 in Ohio's Division 1 - Region 1.
A crowd of 12,000 watched tensions flare during the post game handshakes to where the teams had to be separated by coaches and security personnel.
In hindsight, both teams are at fault as they each prepare for their playoff runs. It seems at this time, the two teams are handling everything internally.

I'm a Massillon guy but i wish McKinley would get like what they were in the 90s or even mid 2000 teams. Those teams were stacked and it was a fun rivalry then. Also very disappointed in all the flags from both teams. No discipline on either side. I think the refs lost control of the game which lead to the brawl after the game.
I think Coach Hall is doing what he can. Tough to turn around a bad culture in just a few years. ... Always darkest before the dawn. Go Pups.

@JimTrussell I truly think that Coach Hall is great for McKinley and Massillon rivalry. He's the real deal for mckinley who was in shambles in 2021. That said in a few years they'll be on the map as well

There was 23,000 at the Hall of Fame in 2019 before Covid hit.

formerly of Massillon born and raised 31 years moved to Arizona in 1991 / So in 1994 at my job my boss formerly of California and I got into talking about high school football. Course I told him Tigers had 22 state championships and like 11 Nationals and that Massillon and Mckinley was the biggest high school rivalry in the nation, he was like I never heard of it. 3 days later he comes to work and says you wasn't kidding about the BIG GAME.
He proceeded to to show me USA TODAY'S sports section with an article about the BIG GAME. I think it was the following year that Sports Illustrated cover FIGHT OF THE CENTURY the 100th regular season meeting between these two teams.

@@JimTrussell working from home, when I talk to people from OH. on a call, I try to brag, like if I talk to someone from CTOWN, I like to mention Paul Brown was from Massillon and he named the Bengals after the Massillon Tigers, or when talking about the Buckeyes or the Lions I mention
Chris Spielman who played for all three teams that kind of stuff sometimes about the walk to tiger stadium, partying at the park. If you didn't have a ticket meet somebody at the back fence, they give you stub get in free. lol or under the bleachers looking for lost change. The other big games I remember was Niles, Warren, Steubenville.

I'm not surprised that this is considered by many to be the greatest rivalry in high school football, but Midland/Odessa can't be too far behind.
One I will never forget occurred between John Harris and Steelton Highspire of the Central Penn league. It was so nasty that there were a few instances where basketball games had to be stopped because there were so many fights.
The Central Penn League folded in the 1970s.
Thanks for commenting! The reason this rivalry is so large and widely regarded as the greatest, is because this rivalry was born out of professional football and the two communities started the NFL. I'll look up what schools you brought up because I love football but it doesn't get any bigger than McK-Mass!

I imagine that they are sick of people with "media companies" wanting free access to the field. I have been recording and doing what I do since 2011. I have NEVER asked to be on the field. Only this past season against Lake did I ask, and I also was denied. Doesn't matter to me. Im used to not being on the field and getting thousands of views.

The games over why try and win the fight.madness...be humble in winning and defeat.but im blown away how this is high school..here in england high school footbal ie soccer is placed with maybe 20 people watching.only when u join the pro teams after school ie 16 do people watch...amazing the crowd etc...oh what is with that bell in the trolley.is it important??

These two communities are known for jump starting pro football back in the late 1890s and into the early 1900s. The league in 1920 would be named the NFL 😎
The rivalry runs deeps and started because of the pro teams of the past but it has transfered to the two high schools.
I am sorry that this particular game had poor sportsmanship. I have many of the others on this channel.
The bell is known as the Victory Bell. It was donated by a railroad company back in the 1960s I believe. It goes to the winner every year and gets repainted by the winner every year.
