      @@The_Rogue_Workshop I was thinking about doing this but with a foam projectile. I don't want the fire though so is it possible to do this but instead of a barbeque igniter and butane would a valve and pressurized air/c02 work?

    • @The_Rogue_Workshop
      @The_Rogue_Workshop  Před 2 lety +1

      Maybe, it’d be a pretty complex design tho, if you wanted to use foam you could soak some paper towels In baking soda water and then dry them and it makes fire resistant paper and you could wrap the bottom of you foam in that. Also foam is pretty light weight so I’m not sure how well it’d work, but I’m currently in the process of making a version 2 were it’ll have a barrel and foam might work better in that, I’ll try it out and see!

    Instead of dropping the charge why not place the ignitor out one side and the chamber fix in the bottom. I forget the type of mortar but some small mortars fire that way. Like a gun.
    This way the tube can fit the projectile better thus giving better range. Or it should if built right. Plus holding the tube by hand until you have the right angle then fire should give more precision. In the heat of battle its easy to move after you drop the charge.
    Most mortars that fire the way you built this one have a bi pod. Thus giving better precision and stability.
    The one im thinking of might be the 60mm mortar but its been so long I forget. I got out the military in 1997. But its videos of them ive watched. Usually SF / Green Beanies use them. If I find one I post a link.

    • @The_Rogue_Workshop
      @The_Rogue_Workshop  Před 3 lety +1

      That’s a blaze’n good idea! I wanted to keep the mortar realistic so that’s why I had the ignition in the round itself, but I didn’t know that an outside ignition was actually a thing.
      That would solve a lot of problems with range
      Thanks for the advice, I’ll maybe make a version 2

    • @WW5RM
      @WW5RM Před 3 lety

      @@The_Rogue_Workshop yeah the type I described isn't as visually cool as the drop and fire style but seems like a better way for range and accuracy. I think keeping the propellant behind the mortar in a tighter tube should help both.
      You could experiment with different propellant but be careful! I tried Ether in a tater gun once! It blew the PVC threaded cap off the back! It was an old cap. I should have used new fittings. Luckily I had the ignitor on the side in the double walled section of a connection. But a weak spot is a good thing as long as you point it in a safe direction.
      Always inspect your gun! Say after 5 - 10 shots or so. Any sign of a crack or questionable area ditch the whole thing! Or at least put some weight on it to test and see if it moves or flexes! Potatoes fit tight but when you get to tight tolerances on any bullet to barrel fit your chances of a explosion increase big time!
      PVC is sharp when it breaks!!
      Keep us posted on #2.
      Stay safe and have fun!

      Well I wanted to ask why my projectile wasn’t going far. I used ever so slightly different parts for mine, like a threaded coupler and threaded plug instead of the adapter and cap, but when I fire it the projectile maybe goes 10 feet. Is it the butane? Is too much leaving the butane hole? Is the seal not good? It’s a mystery to me.

    • @The_Rogue_Workshop
      @The_Rogue_Workshop  Před 2 lety

      So I think you’re not getting the right gas to air mix, try waving it up and down 5 times instead of 4 or using less butane, I had to experiment quite a bit to get the right mix. When you get the right mix it’ll maybe go 80-90 feet if you aim it right so it’s not very powerful but it is satisfying to use lol, if you’re looking for something with more power I’m planning on making a v2 with more power so stay tuned for that.
