- Thank you to everybody watching a bit of our lives. We finally have an opening to fish for dog salmon and we’re at it harvesting Dog Salmon for dog feed. With my Dad Gary Simple Sr. Filmed on a GoPro Hero Black 10. Driving a Yamaha Grizzly 700, checking the nets using an Allweld boat with a Yamaha 20 horse power outboard. Carrying a Savage 30-06, Sig Sauer P227 .45 ACP, with underwood 220 grain Extreme Penetrators. Oakley GasCan Sunglasses, Buck Knife.
Thanks for watching and have a blessed day

I love your videos. I was fortunate to float the Chandalar River in 17. You’re truly blessed to live in such a beautiful area of AK.
I really enjoyed this video, brings back fond memories of my setnetting days In Ugashik, Pilot Point, Anchorage on the mudflats and Nondalton. I did it for 30 years. Wish I could do it all over again. Thanks for the fond memories.
Awesome! Fishing is a lot of work but very rewarding. I’m glad it brought back good memories. John you need to write a book of your experiences in Alaska. I’d buy 2 copies. Thanks for watching and have a good one
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 Thanks but, it would take to long to write such a book, lol. Besides, I don't have the patience, lol.
@@johninalaska9563 yeah I understand, we’ll you’ll just have to do a video series here on CZcams taking us through the years and adventures
ok bro guess you got the salmon robber lol hope had a nice hide thanks for sharing have a blessed day God Bless
A little scary fishing looking over your shoulder all day long. Cheers
Beautiful day in Alaska with some salmon fishing another awesome video 👍🏽
Thank you Mike. Oh yeah a very beautiful day and great harvest. You have a great day and god bless
Nice haul. Dang pesky bear. So glad the two local ones by me do not come up the hill. As long as it stays down that way he is fine. Stay warm
Yeah lots of work but always fun pulling fish. Yeah make sure to keep an eye out for your bears for sure. Have a great day
Good job friend :) I love the north & the people in it, Nice to see family working together & keeping up some old traditions, Hope to see more Great job !
Thanks! It’s been great sharing my world up here. Yeah we’ll be putting our cultural way of living into practice for sure. Thanks for writing and have a great day.
Great video! Can't wait to see if you get the bear!!
Thanks. We get one. Not the bet video but we got part of the shot. 👍
Thankyou for sharing your experiences with us. All the best to you and the family for winter.
For sure👍. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for a new video on Saturday
In 2000 I was watching the Pokiak Music Festival. I got a bear call out. For a bear that was trying to steal fish from a fish net 20 miles up the Aklavik River. When I got there the bear was stuck in the fish net hopping on one foot.
Wow. I’ve always wondered what would happen if a bear were to get stuck in a net. Did that bear tear that net up?
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 it was a long time ago but I think we had to pull the net out and cut the bear out. So it was mostly wrecked.
honestly man your living the dream keep it up
Thank you for watching and writing. I am definitely blessed, I won’t take it for granted. God bless
Excellent Video Brother! I absolutely love doing this kind of stuff. My nets were productive with Whitefish, and pike this summer. So much good food,, And the dogs are so happy for all the Iltin.
Thanks bro! Yeah fishing is awesome. Glad you did well. I hope your nets are full of whitefish next summer👍
Glad you got some fish for your dogs. They kept us closed down river here for the whole fall chum run. Waiting for freeze up now so I can set my nets under ice for burbot and sheefish, whitefish. If I was you I would put a few more corks on your net and heavier lead line in that current, I would use 95/100.
That’s Jeff. Yeah it’s been a frustrating decade when it comes to fishing. I would love to learn more about setting nets under ice, someday. These nets are our used and abused nets. We save the nicer ones for king salmon. Thanks for the info we do have a bunch of work to do to patch and fix these nets. I hope your nets are full of whitefish this winter🫡
Yea it sure has. FnG let us dipnet summer chums for a few weeks that saved us here. There should be a run of Lamprey eels showing up any day, I use for dog feed if we hit them. I have some under ice net setting how too videos on my channel if you look. Not really that hard just set when the ice is still thin, no corks on the net, and, set it well below the ice so it dont freeze in, check it every other day, Good luck and keep cranking out the awesome videos. @@enigmaticgwichin1630
Good catch! You guys rock, oh YA!
Thanks! Much appreciated 👍
Bear's definitely do cause a big mess . That's why you need to have a control Hunt season !!!
Yeah, our bear population is out of control. Fish and game have informed us that the amount of bears is up to 8X to many. Areas around cities in Alaska have been taken over my grizzlies and black bears have moved out or been killed.
cannot wait for the next video, good luck with the bear, I don't think you will need it thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching Phillip👍. Got a few different videos being edited now. Have a good one
So awesome my friend lots of dog salmon for the winter, hungry bear getting free fish pretty smart bear
Hi Joe. Hope all is well up north. Yeah some good dog food. Haha that bear pulled that net out over and over and when my dad pulled those nets. That bear just pulled out a different guys net. I ended up shooting that nuisance bear not to long after this video. Alright my friend take care and god bless
Right on, good be more meat walking in that area God Bless you my friend
A grizzly bear pulling on fishing nets? Example #87 of bears acting like us. Basically people with paws 😂
Bears always tear stuff up , it's like they recognize man-made stuff then tear it up.
Yeah and synthetics prolly feel different when they chew them up. Thanks for watching👋
How was the chum run compared to previous seasons? Bears always amaze me how they figure things out. Hope you get that bear and have no issues in the future.
Looked like a great run. High water most of the summer so we couldn’t see most of the fish passing by. Oh yeah we got the bear👍
Do you guys set nets under the ice during the winter to?
If you should ever pull up a grizzly bear in the net alive will Dad 'Bonker' him as well ... :)))
Hurry up yo
Hi Jesse👋
Great video! Let us know if you get the bear.
Thanks! I pulled the audio that played at the end from the video of shooting that bear. I have a bunch of driving and looking around before I shoot the grizzly it’s not a perfect hunting video because it’s from about 4 days of looking before I found him.
Jk bro
👍
But why so late in season?
It was when the state allowed us to fish. And the cold weather makes for easy storage of the fish
Is this fish good for eating?
If we were starving I’d eat it without a second thought. But these chum”dog” salmon are spawned out and don’t have the best tasting meat on them. When we’re boiling up this fish for dogs it does smell good.
@@enigmaticgwichin1630 Understood. Does this "dog fish" falls under any DFG regulations/limits?
@@AlexB-km7os Yes sir. This was our first real opening in a couple years. There were years in the early 2000s when we put up 3-4 thousand for “Dog Food”. Actually there have never been limits on Chum Salmon up here only openings and closures. Thanks for asking
Why can't you eat those Salmon?
If we were staving we would eat them in a heartbeat but the nutritional value of this fish is quite poor. Some even smell rotten, zombie fish. They are spawning and have used up their fat reserves traveling from the ocean. The fish that show up in July and august are great to eat. Thanks for watching and asking questions. God Bless
