‘It’s just like nothing I’ve ever seen’: Dozens of senior living facilities without power

  • It’s hard to see much of anything on the third floor of the Treemont Living Community in SW Houston. As you walk by, temporary lights lead your path. Deirdre McClain invited KPRC 2 to her unit to feel what residents have experienced since Hurricane Beryl knocked out power.
“My experience has been awful,” McClain said. “This is the third day that we are without electricity.”
Also on the third floor is Liz Daher’s 92-year-old dad, Sam. She called Houston firefighters to the facility to remove him from his room so he could seek treatment.
“He has congestive heart failure, so the heat has just made it worse,” Daher said. “We can’t stand to be in there, so of course he can’t stand to be in there.”
Her dad wasn’t the only one assisted by HFD. In an hour’s span, KPRC 2′s Rilwan Balogun watched as three ambulances visited the southwest community with paramedics treating residents.

@@Texaslife98 so, you think YOUR issues are important enough to cancel sports for EVERYONE?? That's a very narcissistic view. I live on the coast. Got completely wiped out during Ike. I was actually at a game the night before. I got knee deep water this go round. I wouldn't begrudge anyone any happiness or pleasure just because I was having a hard time. We all know we live where hurricanes happen. Get a generator. I got a BIG one after Ike that runs the whole house. Before I had that; I had a small gas generator that I would run the coffee pot and fan at night with. I put food in an ice chest with ice. We made sandwiches and we cooked on the grill. We always keep plenty bottled water and canned goods. If you are going to live where hurricanes happen; you can either sit around complaining and waiting for others to make things better for you OR you can be prepared to take care of yourself. You could also move to a place you won't be in the path of hurricanes . What you CAN'T do is dictate to everyone else what they should or shouldn't do while you are having a tough time. You could have bought a 5 dollar ticket like everyone else and sat in the AC eating dollar hotdogs. Many people did go and enjoy themselves. Why does that upset you? Should we all just stop living and wallow in misery and complaints like you or should we grab a bit of fun and pleasure when we can.

Once they take all the money from the patients sale of assets (home etc.) then their "social worker" can apply for Medicaid to pay the huge bill. The caregivers are worked too hard......just another racket in our country.

People have survived a very long time without air conditioning. Going weeks in 90+ degrees although uncomfortable our planet must balance everything the humans do you her to self preserve. Makes you appreciate the little things. God's divine timing. I remember weeks of the sun just pounding us and we survived without air conditioning. Older middle aged young kids they all survived. The planet must protect herself. She was doing it before humans were created. We're just along for the ride. Have an amazing ascension process. The planet is currently ascending during the death and rebirth cycle what Jesus spoke of two thousand years ago. Humans had their thousand years now God gets to take back the planet God created to preserve the planet. Landfills overflowing with convenience humans litter everywhere eating flesh against Noah's laws didn't listen to Noah either so that death is being purged why Jesus gave his life to save humanity now by universal law humans must sacrifice something not someone but something for Jesus to keep the covenant. Doesn't mean sacrifice an animal or human it means go help your neighborhood. All that stuff you humans just had to have to fit in with the crowd where is it now? Shoved in a closet, junk drawer, landfills overflowing with convenience. Al Gore said it would catch up all that convenience will become extremely inconvenient. Welcome back to reality humans. Big mamma Gaia is a lot bigger than it's inhabitants. They'll survive but they'll be brought to their knees just like Jesus said they would. This is all about the return of Jesus. You humans wouldn't be here had he not sacrificed. He didn't create all these problems humans shouldn't be casting their problems upon Jesus when he already sacrificed once let the humans see what sacrifice really means. He was right in front of you the whole time. They'll figure it out. Good luck. You need him to do for you by universal law you must do something for him. Jesus didn't cast all his problems on you humans why are all the humans casting everything upon him? Just trying to figure out their logic. We reject you Jesus but die for us and fix all our problems so we don't have to change. Common sense. Good luck with your return Jesus it's obvious he's coming back. If we need Jesus by universal law if he does something for us we have to do something for him like your money system that reads IN GOD WE TRUST. The all seeing eye. Everything we do the all seeing eye can see. I'm God's Oracle just channeling Father God. Keeps one humble and obedient. They'll do for themselves but only themselves and spit on the volunteers and Jesus. Basically shooting themselves in the foot doing that. We don't believe in God as we're in God's image. We don't want your rules God but everything you created we'll lie for cheat people for overstay is not allowed murder for monopoly money destroy people's lives for monopoly money invade now you're being invaded. That's what you guys did now someone else is doing it future proves past. No they will not this time. Steal it'll steal from you sacrifice it'll sacrifice you cheat you'll cheat you invade it'll invade you silence someone it'll silence you. Universal law. He did in the past how'd that go? That won't happen again Michael and Gabriel and Satan won't allow it. God give us everything God returns okay what did you give me? I offered you all this but what did you humans do for God but destroy yourselves? Cloning without permission is incarnation crimes punishable by removal. You need permission. Rejecting Jesus is rejecting you. Rejecting God is rejecting you. Wake up!!!! We're suffering but didn't we do that to Jesus in the beginning? Universal law. Project earth future proves past experiment. They'll want to this time when they see what they're missing out from rejecting Jesus. Can't hitch hike or invade this one. Jesus is saying I left the prison open for you. You don't want God or Jesus to can't have God's creation. All they have to do is get on their knees and change. That's all. You've done it twice now humans. Heal the sick so we don't have to change. You go to the doctor you have to pay same applies to Jesus. Do as thou wilt not allowed. You humans were deceived thinking you can lie cheat steal murder sacrifice without being held accountable. You want everyone else to be held accountable by universal law someone must hold you accountable. I'm SWITZERLAND just trying to have Jesus back in a world against him which makes absolutely no sense. Right now all the evil and wicked is being removed. God allows it for a reason not my place to judge. Just trying to rationalize this.

But even huge generators can't always handle the load of necessary medical equipment, laundry ( you want to know how much soiled laundry a NH processes in a day?), lights, kitchen AND A/C. A lot of the patients could be gathered into a large common room and provided drinks, being bathed frequently with washclothes as needed. Reduce the building area that has to be cooled. I live in a senior community. It is not any type of assisted living, just a 55+ community . While a generator for at least one of the elevators would have been nice, they have tried to do other things for the community. They brought in cooling buses with charging centers, and at least one hot meal a day, sometimes two, for residents (all at no charge). They also distributed ice and water. But it sounds like the special centers did absolutely nothing for the residents. That’s just criminal!

BS. Any state sanctioned NH is REQUIRED to have generators....at least in every state that I have worked in( 5 including Tx.) Those generators are not always large enough to provide every patient's room with power for individual A/C units. A boat load of power is required to run a NH...medical equipment, laundry, lights, kitchen. Most staffs have to participate in live drills for emergency situations and have plans to manage them.
