    The answer to the Epic question just reinforces my decision to not support AMG after what they did with X-Wing. It is clear that Shatterpoint is their baby and the everything else is just not as important. Really sad

      @@RedXlV My belief is that Shatterpoint was in development before the merge and since they sunk some much into it, they had to release it. What is really sad is they could have just left X-Wing alone but decided to pump resources into 2.5 instead of new content. Maybe that was the plan all along was to kill the games so they don't have to make or create new models for X-Wing and Armada

    • @RedXlV
      @RedXlV Před rokem +2

      @@OpinionatedFanboy That still seems odd, because why not just merge Shatterpoint into Legion instead of releasing it as a new game? (Plus, Shatterpoint was already going to compete with Legion, so even back when FFG had Legion, why was AMG developing a competing game when they're both part of Asmodee?)

    • @OpinionatedFanboy
      @OpinionatedFanboy Před rokem

      @@RedXlV Well, with MCP all you have to do is port over the rules and update some cards and boom you have a new game. Both Shatterpoint and Legion should be able to live side by side as long as both are supported. But we know which one AMG will favor.

    I had a deep love for X-Wing all the way back in 1.0. And while I wasn't sold on 2.0, I ended up liking it even more. Moving the game to AMG and the subsequent 2.5 rules killed it for me.

      Exactly the same for me. I thought 2.0 was an improved game in many ways. But AMG proved immediately that they didn't care about fans as much as they cared about control of the game. Every step of the way they have alienated fans in order to control an ever-diminishing player base.

      If they weren't going to do anything other than the pathetically low effort PnP Rapid Reinforcements packs (couldn't even be bothered to make proper cards), then they shouldn't have bought the property and let someone else have it who would actually do something with it.
      It's like companies that license foreign television series and movies only to do absolutely nothing with the license but sit on it - simply so nobody else can have it.
      Honestly it might as well be an all out conspiracy to push that ancient musty artifact that is the 90s sprue over a ready to play, high fidelity (not to mention pre-painted in the cases of Armada, X-Wing, or even the Street Fighter miniatures game) gold standard of what miniature gaming can and should be in the modern age of gaming. My bigger question is why does shatterpoint need to even be a game? I don’t want to get into the mechanics of it but I’ve watched 3 battle reports, no one dies in the game, u just push everyone around for auto damage but it’s ok because everyone will just use their heal abilities, and it’s mostly just about shifting pieces around to get zone/objective points. Waw really thrilling and captures the mood of Star Wars perfectly. Is it because of marvel crisis’ protocol (money) and that’s literally it? They literally did a crappy version of the same game concept in spec ops for legion, you have the same exact models/minis, why in the name of god could they not just give you the rules for shatterpoint in legion. Instead they charge you twice the amount for a core box for an “entirely different game” with a quarter of the models (buts it’s ok because the models are f’ing massive now!) and some terrain to “justify the price”"

    • @camwardart

    I think drastic game changes need to be applied to XWing and Armada in order to extend their lives. I’m thinking more of adding rather than changing. For example add invasion elements to Armada. Tbh invasions would work well, however they should be more simple, they should play it similar to risk in how the dice works, not a ground battle single, but a small campaign map, with AA guns, and shield generators, airbases, etc, the attacker can take them from the defender or destroy them from space, with the end goal of the attacker to either win the space battle and cut off the wave from reinforcements with a complete victory, or the land forces failing to make a beach head, would be a really fun narrative perspective with unique upgrades ships to transport units that have special effects on the map, or sending down a downed named commander to take control of land forces from an escape pod or something similar

    I think the "we are focusing on the core game" is the same as saying "big ships will come later". As big ships are not part of the core game they are more narrative models. I agree they could put something out that says here are rules for the big ships, even if they are just generic rules l, with the caveat that they aren't tournament legal.
    Ultimately all of this boils down to resources. They just don't have enough resources to support all facets of all of these games, so they have to make some hard choices and leave some things out for now.

    Here’s my 2 cents worth. If you were to make a time line of all the Star Wars titles AMG took over from FF…and track the release of their respective products and then do the same with shatter point….it will definitely show where the bulk of their time, effort, resources and passion has been allocated to and it’s not any of the titles they took over. I’m beginning to think AMG is some what contractually obligated to “support” Legion, Armada and X Wing (using the definition of support loosely). I think they’ve put minimal effort into each of the FF titles they were handed and will milk what they can from each title with minimal effort. I feel like it’s a dead game now which is beyond sad.
    Their announcement about epic ships…is maddening. The fact that there is epic ship products still for sale. Despicable.

    I sold off all my x-wing about a month ago - going through a big move in the future, and I haven't played it. Sadly I've stopped playing Legion and MCP I only every bought the core set and played a couple of times. Shatterpoint looks interesting, but I just find it a bit too much. I'm keeping imperial assault - I still love that game. Working on my own game (and taking lessons from all the games I like).
    As to Armada, I think the game system is decent and it could be a great game system for maybe another setting/IP, but I'm not sure anyone is willing to license it out from AMG.
    I think I'm feeling a bit of franchise fatigue - I really want my create my own thing, and I'd love to see some smaller companies and IP's get a chance to shine.

      It's so weird in general how the licence is handled. They have Armada and X-Wing and Imperial Assault, three miniature games and then.. they got rid of Imperial Assault for Legion, which I kinda understand because it was more of a board game but then they introduce Shatter Point. Armada and X-Wing are laying in the dust in the meantime, while we have tons of new ships incoming in media and still an expanded universe to draw from. Then there was the card game and they introduced a new card game with dice, then they made a card game without dice - a TCG and a little while ago another card game was announced?
      I know licencing has issues, different distributors and publishers and stuff but still - wouldn't it be more reasonable to have a smaller amount of core games to cultivate? Instead the games change the gardener and the new one acts as weird as the last one.

    Epic wasn’t a big product mover even when it was supported. X Wing is unfortunately in a spot where even standard is dying. It is a hard product for shops to stock and sell. Old players have what they want and new players aren’t showing up much. Attendance is low for events. It has a passionate player base, but that doesn’t move product. They will keep supporting standard for a while, but i honestly think the game is riding into the sunset. I’ll ride the horse to the end but it Makes me sad. It happens to a lot of games.

    So disappointed in AMG’s stewardship of these classic FFG games. As a X-Wing and Armada player the rollercoaster ride of ‘is there a new release, news, updates???’ And to be continually let down and disappointed has shifted my buying elsewhere. I definitely have zero plans to get into Shatterpoint or MCP after watching them run X-Wing and Armada into the ground. Too bad, Asmodee really shot themselves in the foot with that decision. Global sales are massively down after AMG’s takeover

    The way AMG handling x-wing is terrible, they buy a game and basically killing the game, new rules so-so not the old, but not bad. New ships? Well they interesting. The squad building, non-existing, the release a document and that's the end of it. I think couple of us love hating the FFG squad builder, but they are at last trying to do something even if it was not too good. AMG do NOTHING, here's the document have fun. Sorry they release a new pont system with a good conept, but terrible point system.

    Anyone who buys Shatterpoint is guilty like Brutus and Cassius of sticking a knife in the body of the dying X-Wing/Armada series. Atomic Mass Games is every bit as awful a company as Games Workshop. Divest. Divest of these games now, because AMG doesn't care about players or play experiences. They care about ownership, control, and money (Probably in that order).

    Armada needs at least 2-3 more Clone Wars waves to be still playable for those factions if the game dies. X-Wing is just a corpse being dragged along for the “we have the only SW mini games” and Legion is hardly getting much content and it’s very slow. I believe they are trying to screw over all the other players. They are trying to murder these games so they can take care of their precious baby Marvel Crisis Protocol and their cheap copy cat game Shatterpoint. They should never have gotten those games. I honestly will celebrate if AMG fails and collapses. Literally the same as EA with SW video games. Kill all other games for their own.
