  • Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa, addresses the general debate of the 78th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (New York, 19 - 26 September 2023).
    -------
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said, “Centuries after the end of the slave trade, decades after the end of the colonial exploitation of Africa’s resources, the people of our continent are once again bearing the cost of the industrialisation and development of the wealthy nations of the world.”
President Ramaphosa today (19 Sep) made his remarks at the High-level week of the General Assembly.
He reiterated, “The wealth of Africa belongs to Africans, the mineral wealth that is beneath the soil of Africa, must in the end accrue to Africans.”
He urged global leaders to “accelerate global decarbonisation while pursuing equality and shared prosperity.”
President Ramaphosa also highlighted, “It is a grave indictment of this international community that we can spend so much money on war, in fact trillions are spending on war, but we cannot support action that needs to be taken to meet the most basic needs of billions of people in the world, needs such as addressing hunger, health, empowering woman and making sure that there is development in countries that are vulnerable.”
He called on wealthier countries to “meet the financial commitments they have made,” adding that “it is a great concern that these wealthier countries have failed to meet their undertakings to mobilise 100 billion dollars a year for developing economies to take climate action.”
    --------
The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization. Comprising all Member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations. Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations has an equal vote.
The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945. Currently made up of 193 Member States, the UN and its work are guided by the purposes and principles contained in its founding Charter.
The UN has evolved over the years to keep pace with a rapidly changing world.
But one thing has stayed the same: it remains the one place on Earth where all the world’s nations can gather together, discuss common problems, and find shared solutions that benefit all of humanity.

No specifics on South Africa or Africa in this speech. He seems more troubled about global issues, while South Africa and the continent do not matter. Fine speech, but not too relevant and rather tangential to the development of his country and continent. I think the Nigerian President addressed the issues better, like an African mouthpiece.

Since all nations are sovereign nations, and decide how their government’s are run, and control their own resources…each nation is responsible for the welfare of its citizens, infrastructure, and safety of property rights. No one will invest in a country where there is corruption, and seizure of property. People who invest in a community, expect their property to be protected….if that is threatened… no one will invest in these developing countries. And no taxpayers from developed countries are in bondage to any other country… they do not work free… that would be
called slavery. They are working for their families and they pay taxes to fix THEIR infrastructure. They do not OWE anyone else.

Easy to say when most of those countries have prospered from exploiting natural and human resources from other countries, not to mention the funding and arming of democracy destabilizers. The hypocrisy of the Western World is just shocking. If they return everything they stole and keep stealing - the roles will be terribly reversed, will there be anything left in Museums in London and Europe.

I think President Ramaphosa made significant contribution to the legal processes in RSA and BRICS. The biggest idea he is trying to address here is foreign investments. Chevron when it invests in USA and RSA is doing that as a citizenship in USA and a legal person commonly known as skilled expatriates in RSA. The business climate currently is that foreign corporations misrepresent themselves as citizens in both countries but believe strongly that this is legally wrong. Foreign corporations are legal persons and their rewards in profits should be owned by the country they belong to and this brings the beauty of Joint ventures.
