- Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa, addresses the general debate of the 78th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (New York, 19 - 26 September 2023).
-------
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said, “Centuries after the end of the slave trade, decades after the end of the colonial exploitation of Africa’s resources, the people of our continent are once again bearing the cost of the industrialisation and development of the wealthy nations of the world.”
President Ramaphosa today (19 Sep) made his remarks at the High-level week of the General Assembly.
He reiterated, “The wealth of Africa belongs to Africans, the mineral wealth that is beneath the soil of Africa, must in the end accrue to Africans.”
He urged global leaders to “accelerate global decarbonisation while pursuing equality and shared prosperity.”
President Ramaphosa also highlighted, “It is a grave indictment of this international community that we can spend so much money on war, in fact trillions are spending on war, but we cannot support action that needs to be taken to meet the most basic needs of billions of people in the world, needs such as addressing hunger, health, empowering woman and making sure that there is development in countries that are vulnerable.”
He called on wealthier countries to “meet the financial commitments they have made,” adding that “it is a great concern that these wealthier countries have failed to meet their undertakings to mobilise 100 billion dollars a year for developing economies to take climate action.”

The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization. Comprising all Member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations. Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations has an equal vote.
The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945. Currently made up of 193 Member States, the UN and its work are guided by the purposes and principles contained in its founding Charter.
The UN has evolved over the years to keep pace with a rapidly changing world.
But one thing has stayed the same: it remains the one place on Earth where all the world’s nations can gather together, discuss common problems, and find shared solutions that benefit all of humanity.

Well he says the same thing on all the summits, I would be surprised if he didn’t memorize it by now. Go watch the russia Africa summit for example
He’s reading from monitors that are to the left and right of him.
I was thinking the same thing. He speaks well, even with the teleprompter.
@MyCity-fp9nl why not if his speech addresses his point.
@@pearlselane6116 And nothing ever happens with all the help he asks to the west
One of great speeches by great leader
I hail you President Ramaposa.
From Nigeria
A greatest speech in UNGA 2023.
sounds like a Leader with Mind and Visions.... the characteristics of Leaders...God Bless
Such Leaders we In need in Africa.
Great point regarding the huge disparity of global resources expended to support war compared to support global development and protection.
Son's of Africa, making speeches that will forever be remembered. Keep it up gentlemen. Africa has been oppressed ecomically for far too long.
Free Kabylie from the Algerian occupation.. May God help the Kabyle people to get their independence from the Algerian opressor.
Well done proud to be South African
I like this man. South Africa is in the right path. It will not be easy but as they say, where there is a will, there is a way. Wishing Africa as a whole peace and success.
Africa needs to wake up and be deliberate in actions.

THE BEST articulated SPEECH SO FAR….
Good speech but how about denouncing corrupt leaders of Africa and pointing out the looting of natural resources to fund their lavish lifestyles while their fellow country people endure untold suffering. Accountability is far beyond lacking in Africa.
This was a beautiful speech by HE Ramaphosa. Africa belongs to Africans. HE Ruto's speech was about Western interests. Compare and contrast.
Wonderful speech we'll articulated well done Ramaphosa well represented South Africa Viva
I may not vote for the ANC but I respect the professional manner and truth my president is affirming. I 100% agree with him.
Great articulation with profound wisdom from African contingent. Best representative from the region
Good speech without paper in front, speaking from the mind not scripts

President Cyril Ramaphosa: Thanks you so much for your remarkable speeches last week @ the United Nations Headquarter to address the U.N. General Assembly in September of 2023❤❤❤
May the Lord bless Africa
my.highest respect of my brother South Africa president Ramophosa. Good speech, very elequent and knowledgeable. Western powers are hypocrite.
Emty seat when Africa speak
we need that type of African leaders who seriously dealing with the independence economy and peaces and transquility of peoples in Africa. viva President Cyril Ramaphosa The lion of South Africa
As an African, I thank you for the wonderful speech. UN has done NOTHING for Africa, except standing with and supporting opposition parties in Africa. Therefore a reform is urgently needed at the UN.
My question is. Are these great speeches going to be just speeches like always, or our leaders are going to take action❓️❓️❓️
That is great question people of Africa observing and waiting if these leaders who are verbally uttering the problems and challenges humanity is facing. We will be witnessing if they can walk their talk.
They already are. The membership of BRICS and the expansion thereof is the greatest contribution the Southern most of Africa has contributed to the greater African diaspora.
They try, but they’re opposed by likes US and the UK using veto powers!!!
This is what had been echoing in that room for past 78years. Obviously we need a change of gear.
The US and others’ veto power must be challenged!!!
Your peace advocate Mr president that is great to hear thanks
Our president ❤ great speech
Empty seat
Great speech Honorable "The wealth of Africa belong to Africans".🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
I personally admire the firm stand of Kenya's president and South Africa's strong stand. Please stand united for the United Nations of the world. Please, stop the hostility and foe-friend mentality of some world leaders.
Presentation indeed comprehensive, matured, touching and provokings
Pozdravujem zo Slovakia, držím palce.

Africa needs to go back to the concept of Ubuntu and deal with localised evils, like corruption ,civil wars, arbitrary persecution of opponents, and putting the welfare of citizens first always. Strengthening the role of the AU as the big brother will ensure a even and well regulated development and peace.
Yes you go south africa🎉
Beautiful speech 🙏🏻👌
I recall our next women conference to be held in 2025 for our women Agenda echoed in 1995 Beijing during the fourth world women conference in which I was copted by UNIFEM to prepare and welcome the African women delegations. With our China-Africa Win-Win Cooperation Postdoctoral framework and expertise with perspectives for the African countries Take-off in light of Practice in Chinese Economic Development. " African Women are the key-solution for African countries Development."

@@captainbatatatv5609 Thank you dear Captain
Great man,, one Africa forever❤
Touchable speech Mr. President
President tell them and let them know that Africa continent needs it's freedom for the people and remove all the things that they done many years ago to African countries and power to Africans continent 🇿🇦
🇿🇦 The one of the great African president, I think the former president Thabo Mbeki is very proud of you as all African are. The initiatives that you take I think you were born for such times as this. Where Africa is making a huge turning point. ✅ Man of the moment I wish you can stay longer in power. We see Africans head of states united like never before. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
We Must From How Some Major Country's Are Bringing Conflicts to Our Continent To Divert Our Minerals Resources.... from Africa We Need Peace🏁
THIS IS VERY GOOD AND IMPORTANT SPEECH. THANK YOU MR PRESIDENT ❤
Those who have exploited Africa resources must not be reluctant to assist Afr leaders in fighting global warming. The time has come to invest in Africa, in order to stop migration problems facing Western imperialists
And enlighten us how the money will be spent in the right places considering the levels of corruption?
No specifics on South Africa or Africa in this speech. He seems more troubled about global issues, while South Africa and the continent do not matter. Fine speech, but not too relevant and rather tangential to the development of his country and continent. I think the Nigerian President addressed the issues better, like an African mouthpiece.
He will use that spear in a different one. He can't attack with one weapon.
We he said Africa what does it mean. He mentioned Africa several times just you dont like him full stop
You hate president of South Africa but the end he said no one must leave behind thank you
You missed the point of the speech
This is an absolutely lovely speech...Thankyou Sir
If we as Africans fix our own continent, we can unite to command a strong voice against the West and the Global North
These are the days of REVELATION!
That is a man with wisdom not a write up president
President Of South Africa 🇿🇦
Wonderful speech.South Africa have a great President.
Great president - no electricity,no running water, no national airline, highest unemployment in the world and one of the three most violent countries in the world
Awesome, remarkable, indeed excellent speech, but let's walk the talk rather than repeating same rhetorics all the time.
Good African leaders if you want have respect free develop Africa your peoples
Thank you Mr president
Mr.president what about the war in ethiopia on amhara commited by the ethiopian government ,condemn genocide on amhara!
My President, always representing South Afric and Africa well in the world stage.
what a speech!
Hierarchy !!👏
Since all nations are sovereign nations, and decide how their government’s are run, and control their own resources…each nation is responsible for the welfare of its citizens, infrastructure, and safety of property rights. No one will invest in a country where there is corruption, and seizure of property. People who invest in a community, expect their property to be protected….if that is threatened… no one will invest in these developing countries. And no taxpayers from developed countries are in bondage to any other country… they do not work free… that would be
called slavery. They are working for their families and they pay taxes to fix THEIR infrastructure. They do not OWE anyone else.
You are totally wrong! African resources have been stolen by Industrialized countries by encouraging bad governance and fueling wars and terror!
Easy to say when most of those countries have prospered from exploiting natural and human resources from other countries, not to mention the funding and arming of democracy destabilizers. The hypocrisy of the Western World is just shocking. If they return everything they stole and keep stealing - the roles will be terribly reversed, will there be anything left in Museums in London and Europe.
great speech!
Great Speech!!!
We should forgive Mr President, he really talked about the world and Africa. - for those saying he only focus on global issues forgetting his dear nation and Africa.
GID BLESS ALL AFRICA AND LOVE ALL BUT I WANT TO GO TO FLY I WAIT FOR HELP THANK YOU
Very great speech
well done
Inspiring and Motivating
Best speech ever
What a horrific and humble speech by his excellences Cyril Ramaphosa of S.A
I think President Ramaphosa made significant contribution to the legal processes in RSA and BRICS. The biggest idea he is trying to address here is foreign investments. Chevron when it invests in USA and RSA is doing that as a citizenship in USA and a legal person commonly known as skilled expatriates in RSA. The business climate currently is that foreign corporations misrepresent themselves as citizens in both countries but believe strongly that this is legally wrong. Foreign corporations are legal persons and their rewards in profits should be owned by the country they belong to and this brings the beauty of Joint ventures.
Minerals in Africa yes they belong to us the children of Africa. We need new international bodies /council
