Aquiles Priester is a legendary brazilian drummer, he was the drummer for power metal band Angra (Kiko Loureiro from Megadeth former band) and was the teacher of Eloy Casagrande for a long time. He actually did a tour with Dragonforce in 2020 when their drummer got sick
He also did a tour with metal band W.A.S.P. 🤘😎🤘

I got to see Dragonforce in 2020 when their drummer was sick and Aquiles was backing up for them. It even sounds this clean live. Dude is masterful.
no comments on Aquiles's little bassdrum licks that are just stupid sick. I mean his fills are amazing, but the little pieces where he strays from the original drumming and adds his own flavor in on the bassdrum and the toms are really what makes him stand out. 10/10 drumming for this song.

Aquiles Priester was also in top 4 or drummers in audition for Dream Theater when Mike (The first) left the band.
He sat in with dragonforce for a few shows when their drummer got sick only had like a week to learn the songs before touring
AP is a LEGEND !!!!! He was actually called up by John Petrucci to try out for Dream Theater when Mike Portnoy left. This guy NEVER disappoints. To think that Dream Theater thought that he has what it takes says it all !!!!!!!! AND ---- NO TRIGGERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aquiles Priester is absolutely INSANE, AMAZING and surreal. The sound pressure, the unusual speed and precision, the skill, strength and UNUSUAL RESISTANCE make them a UNIQUE drummer. Who is Mike Portnoy next to this MONSTRUOUS Achilles?? Aquiles is simply a PERFORMANCE for few, the guy is INSANE!
Beyond my current comprehension, Man, Wow…. Could you imagine being his tech and setting this kit up?!

This is one of the first drummers i look on CZcams back in 2011. He is insane, a pure music passionate and a very accurate ans strong drummer. I love how he's sounding. Definitely one of the bests.
Aquiles was invited to audition for Dream Theater when MP left. Even though he was not picked for the spot, it shows how great he is just for being there.

Aquiles was also the drummer for WASP's 40th anniversary tour. He has played with Primal Fear.
Aquiles gave some lessons to the great Eloy Casagrande for that modern drummer festival around 2005/06. He is a legend!

Man, I had the opportunity to listen to Aquiles playing right beside him on a workshow he did in my city. It's scary to be that close, the power he puts into it is just beyond human.

I still remember when I first saw this, I was floored. This is when Gee had to step away from touring (can’t recall why) and Aquiles stepped in. As soon as I saw that improvised fill at the beginning, I knew this cover would be epic!
That was a hell of a cover, fairplay to him, and I love the setup, those red skins n copper cymbals really stand out🤘😍🤘
I seen one of his videos awhile back and I think he was using the same kit but he had all red cymbals and it looked awesome.

My former band opened up for Dragonforce in Mexico City in 09 at Circo Volador. We were called Caustica X back then before changing the name to Anima Tempo. Unfortunately, they were doing playback but we had a beer with Herman, Sam, and Dave and all were top blokes.
Saw them in 2015 again in Mexico City opening up for Kamelot.
His signature ride. Has one of if not the largest bell on a ride made.

you should check his songs with hangar, has some incredible fills and he created a way of using paraddidles to play power metal, my favorite drummer!!!!
First became aware of him years ago in Brazilian stadiumn act Angra. He's done solo work and a few years back did some great playing with Tony MacAlpine. Known for everything you heard and saw right here. Tight, clean and powerful. Always has some of the most massive and best looking set-ups ever.
That rides are his signature. Its basically 18" ride with Bell from 24". Black color of lower cymbals are cause of sweat 🤷♂️😊

I met him as he was walking from the tour bus to the auditorium. He was playing for WASP and it was an incredible show. A masterclass in performance and ability. The elevation of all of Blackies songs was amazing....and he plays Paiste so there's that too!!!

Just go through Aquiles channel for a bit. He does a great variation of covers and HIS stuff is outstanding.
I believe this is a recording of his training for the tour with DragonForce, he did some shows with the band, when the main drummer was sick.

Hi Colby, Rodrigo from Brazil here... Aquiles was called for Dream Theater auditions in 2010 to replace Portnoy, Mangini got the job, but our monster from Brazil was there and it was a honor for all drummers Brazilian nation. Aquiles has an amazing Life story.

This dude is amazing. Portnoy is my favorite drummer, and Priester is number two. I was very fortunate to hear them on the same evening. MP was with Sons of Apollo, and Priester was touring with Tony MacAlpine. Just flabbergasted at how awesome the drums were that entire evening.

He was one step away from becoming the drummer for Dream Theater. You should watch the audition tapes with him and Mike Mangini, Thomas Lang and I can’t remember the other guy give that video a watch Dream Theatre drum auditions.
As far as I remember, he actually struggled to get through the audition. Although I don't think it was even an audition, as I heard Mangini was already selected but they made a whole "show" about it, presumably for attention with different audiences. The other drummers were Virgil Donatti and Marco Minemann, which the DT members really liked.
