I had a dog I would take mountain climbing with me. I noticed his paws quickly became sore on some of the rougher terrain we'd pass through, so I bought him some booties. first time he wore them he did the awkward dance you see here. but after walking on the rocky mountain terrain he quickly realized what they were for and took off sprinting up and down the rocky paths. and whenever he saw the booties afterwards he would have a fit in excitement. so even though dogs are usually uncomfortable when they first wear them, there are definitely situations where your dog will thank you.
I forget that dogs are that smart. :D
Where i live in the summer the pavement can get 160 degrees which can destroy human flesh and obviously dog feet. There is a massive lawsuit in the city about a cops putting a man's face on it. Getting boots for your dog is a service to it here.

They also come in handy on hot asphalt and concrete in the summer, sidewalks and parking lots get extremely hot and the dog will be in pain without the shoes
My dog used to freeze his paws off to go outside when it snowed. Now that he has boots he can enjoy going outside in the winter time more.

Ok so shoes on dogs is a thing because icy and snowy areas are covered in roadsalt, which both damage their paws and is dangerous when the dog later cleans its paws. Also a lot of dogs dislike snow and slipping on ice. Shoes takes a while to get used to, and this is basically them not knowing what to do. They are not in pain or in danger, they are only confused and hella cute. (Tho some of these dogs are stressed out it still benefits them to use shoes during bad winters. Absolutely never use shoes if not necessary)
My last dog had them (briefly) due to a grass contact allergy. Unfortunately he couldn't adjust to them and I ended up having to continue paying for super expensive drugs to control the allergy. Well, the insurance company did... before putting the annual premium so high that I had to drop the insurance. Dog boots are a great thing when everything works out.

Dog boots are also useful in the summer months, when hot asphalt can burn your dogs' feet. Where I live right now, the temperature during the day is in the mid to upper 80's, and blacktop can become over 140°F! (If you can't put your palm on pavement for more than 5 seconds, it's too hot for your dog) If your dogs can't wear boots, then you should avoid walking on hot asphalt and concrete.

We have a standard poodle. She didn’t like the booties at the start. She went out one night without them and the salt on the sidewalks (in Canada) hurt her feet. The next night she had her booties on and it clicked that her feet didn’t hurt any more. She walked faster, jumped through the snow and didn’t mind them at all even on subsequent days out. She clearly made the connection they were to protect her feet.
We had to put boots on my dog in the summer, cuz when we’d take him for a walk, the sidewalk would be way too hot for bare feet. He walked like a little penguin. Or he’d sit and look up at you like, “mum, there’s something wrong with my feet. Help.” And then you would have to carry him.
He passed away in 2017. Rest In Peace, Snoopy. You were always a good boy.

Search and rescue dogs wear them, especially where there's been heat to save damaging their feet. They quickly get used to them, these dogs are clearly first time wearers!

I had a 16 year old Jack Russell and his paw pads always got so dried out and his legs were weakening due to old age, that he always had a hard time getting back up after laying down on our hardwood floors. I bought him some rubber booties, and for like the first 10 minutes he wasn't liking them but after that he knew they helped him and he started liking them.

These booties are not cruel or demeaning to the dogs in fact these are sensible owners there are times when it's in the dogs best interest to wear shoes to protect the pads of the paws which are actually very delicate. These can be burned badly in seconds if your in a hot climate or the weather is extremely high and I do mean seconds. They can also be severely burned by snow ice or the salt put down on roads etc during winters, it's better to get them used to the shoes as puppies indoors before they actually wear them out walking. I would make booties like for a baby and have them get used to that and walking in them before I got light as possible puppy size shoes again get them used to them then by time Dog is old enough to be walking on street on lead which I also introduced slowly indoors they are used to shoes and happily walk in safety in either the hottest or coldest of weathers

What we did is associate boot with the word walk, so she does not freeze her feet or get burned by the salt on side walks, we only put them on before the walk and take them off immediately, she acted the same way at first and finally got use to them and is loving it!

It can take them a while to get used to wearing them, but boots can protect a dogs pads from ice-melting salt. Some kinds of ice-melt are OK for dog feet, but the regular kind of ice-melt salt is not good for their pads. And in places that have snowy winters, there's lots of salt.

Tip for those using boots on their dogs for the first time: put boots on the two front paws first and let the dog get used to that first. It'll be less confusing for your pup.

My sister made our dog some socks, he simply refused to move.
I put "shoes" on my dogs when very cold. Here, winter is quite a bit below zero- cold, road salt etc. And it took awhile for them to acclimate. But, it is funny!
