Operation Cruel Confines: 175 neglected animals rescued from a backyard breeder

- 175 ANIMALS IN HORRIBLE LIVING CONDITIONS SEIZED FROM BREEDING MILL IN WILSON COUNTY TENN.
Shop Springs, Tenn., April 11, 2023: Wilson County Sheriff's Office and Animal Control and Animal Rescue Corps seized 59 dogs, 109 chickens, three cats, two turkeys, and two rabbits from a property in Shop Springs, Tennessee after the animals were discovered living in deplorable conditions inside a garage, backyard shed, and outdoor kennels. Ten dogs were caged inside a small backyard shed with extremely high ammonia levels.
The dogs, including dachshunds, poodles, and poodle mixes used for breeding, were found living in small, stacked, and filthy wire cages, in plastic travel crates, and inside a small shed. Others were outdoors in feces-filled kennels. Many of the cages had two or three dogs in each. No food or water was present in any of the cages. Many of the dogs were suffering from various medical conditions, including high ammonia exposure, severe matting, puncture wounds, mammary tumors, overgrown nails, pressure wounds, skin inflammation and infections, ear and eye infections and injuries, internal parasites, pododermatitis, and urine scalding. Many of the chickens, who were being raised and sold for slaughter, were underweight and suffering from injuries associated with overcrowding, including self-mutilation and exposed bones.
"This is some of the worst matting we've seen on any animal," said ARC’s Executive Director, Tim Woodward. "Baseball-sized clumps of waste are hanging from their ears and legs to where they can hardly walk. Several of the dogs were living crammed three to a cage with no way to escape from feces and urine."
ARC transported all of the dogs and cats from this rescue, dubbed Operation Cruel Confines, to ARC’s Rescue Center outside Nashville, Tenn. All of the chickens, turkeys, and rabbits were taken to Redemption Road Rescue. Each animal will be receiving a thorough veterinary exam, appropriate vaccinations, and any necessary medical treatments. Once full custody is won, each animal will be matched and transported to trusted shelter and rescue partner organizations that will ultimately adopt them into loving homes.

I am in Philly and the dog I adopted was from a really bad hoarding situation in Tenn. She is a very yoúng chiweinie and I think this is where she came from. I am insanely in love with her and she is spoiled rotten! She is a very happy little girl.

Horrible. Disgusting and heartbreaking. I hope they are prosecuted and never allowed to own living animals again. This is why you don't buy puppies from petstores or online.
it's not just greed it's because they can. There needs to be new laws that protect animals from this sort of treatment as clearly the existing ones don't work. I assume there'll be no consequences for the psychopath that ran this house of horrors and if there is it won't be adequate otherwise people wouldn't keep doing it.

Same …I had a neighbor that breeds dogs and sell them the condition wasn’t very good even worst I hope our landlady did not allow it but hey she hates animals she doesn’t care as long as they pay ..this is the world that we live in
These dogs would have been safer if they had been abandoned in the woods! I wish the people who do this could be sentenced to live in a cage for one month with no bathroom facilities….in a garage.

Breeding mills should just be banned Nationwide, yes not every breeder is bad but there are too many situations like this the bad simply outweighs any good, the animals are what's important here not humans making an easy profit. there are soooo many dogs who need adoption in shelters anyways.
