    I'm confused, the math does not work. You said Hallowing, then Nov 10-15. If the rut is 28 to 32 days, hallowing is the 31st, Nov 10 would be only 11 days, not the 28 days

      The rut is longer than 28-32 days. He said that doe come into cycle every 28-32 days until she is breed. The first rut starts around Halloween the peak is the 10-15th November

    My favorite myth is the one that says a buck will not leave a doe in heat, so it's ok to shoot a doe in heat first becuase the buck will just stand still, or it's good to allow the doe to lead the buck into an open area like a field. I've only had one big buck stick around after shooting the doe, and I've had a 180" buck refuse to leave the brush of a field edge for a doe in heat that wanted to nibble on winter grass, he stuck around but he wasn't taking any chances. If you have a 3 second opportunity to put a bullet in the zone you had better make the most of it, becuase you are never going to see that big one again unless you are the only hunter on a square mile of land.

    at 1:13 Peter mentions that the study was done on 100 road killed does in January. At 2:50 he breaks it down to the months and included Feb and Mar. If the does died in January how is that possible? I would be interested in reading this study. Anyone have the link to this study?

      You are exactly right... Makes me question the validity to a lot of what is being said. However, I know that much of what he is saying is true, but I don't believe that all deer in the same latitude will peak in rut in equal times of the year. Absolutely not true.

    • @danorris5235
      @danorris5235 Před měsícem

      @@chadbrantley839 Yeah, there's another factor involved.
      Way up in the "inhospitable north" where I'm at the rut does indeed come in like a hammer in early November. Why? Popular theory is too soon and the fawn is born in a winter that will kill it. Too late? We don't see "too lates" very often, and if they are they're not gonna make it through their first winter because they're way too small (the going theory).
      Makes just as much sense to me that the rut shutdown happens sooner because food runs out faster (lining up with what he says is true), and that's why we don't see any real deviation in fawn age up here.
      Way down south? I've heard many claims the "peak rut" is a "trickle" that lasts almost two months.
      Region creates factors for sure, and we don't fully understand yet.
      Either way, I think it's a VERY bold claim to say that Day X is THE day to go hunting because of the rut. Especially in a lecture where the speaker admits fully that cold front weather and temperature drops have an insane impact on deer movement and activity.

    One year I figured out the Halloween thing myself. I had a hot doe lay down below me. Guess what? Halloween is staggered on the calendar. It is not on the REAL same day every year. The doe do not go into heat at the same time every year. The only true rut is those two days when there is a hot doe in the area. A few years ago I was hunting the late shotgun season(January 1st) and two doe came up the power line. A nice eight point came flying out after them. I shot a doe and the buck would not leave until I chased it off. That is what I call the REAL rut. Some of the bigger deer will not even come out of the brush during the daytime anymore. The rut is over hunted and the older deer are adapting. I see deer get a wiff of your scent and look around. The older ones now start checking the trees!

    Why does a buck need antlers to breed 🤔

    • @1copperking
      @1copperking Před 5 lety +1

      Without antlers the testosterone level drops so much that he cannot breed. We had a deer refuge and if antlers were cut off or dropped the bucks showed no interest in doe's that were in heat.
