For the san Antonio river yeah i can see them keeping people out of that.. For quite a few reasons and he probably shouldn't dive in there plus its a man made river anyways so technically that is straight city restricted property as far as swimming and fishing gos.. Can give that a pass but the cold confrontation was not necessary for a tourist that was obviously well equipped with professional equipment, that "warning" he got was total bullshit and that stupid ass Karen was just completely out of left field and had zero business confronting them, a chick from a local business? Ok so? Its none of her damn business and not illegal but you get people like that alot, you're supposed to just ignore them and go on about your business, here in Texas they commonly put a nice facade first but the min you disobey what they want then you get to see their true colors come out and admittedly its a pretty good laugh to see but she cant do anything, ive run into that so many damn times in other situations, me i would have laughed and told her to piss off and believe me its not rude.. @Saphireaway Před 3 lety +3

Though cumbersome, there are reasons for permits. Because the river is city property, permits are a way to evade liability. If you were to get stuck, drowned, or hurt, the paperwork of a permit puts liability on the swimmer so that you can't sue the city. Likewise, if someone were to damage something or release harmful chemicals, substances, or even foreign wildlife into the water, that permit puts a name to the crime so that you can be prosecuted. Remember, legal rules cost money to plan, write, and enforce, so there's usually a valid reason for the headache. Hope that helps if anyone was wondering.

It’s common practice for national monuments/parks, churches, or other historical or cultural places to require permits for professional use (which a CZcams channel like Jordan’s is- where he profits from the video/this is his job)... personal use where you’re not profiting from it is completely allowed without permit... this is common practice ALL OVER THE WORLD- every country I’ve been to has these rules (the USA, Canada, at least 80% of the countries in South America, the countries I’ve been to in Asia, all of the 98% of countries I’ve been to in Europe, Australia, New Zealand... heck in Fiji you can’t even film or take pictures inside cultural sites! Personal or professional use! Same with Maori stuff in New Zealand! I got yelled at in a museum for taking a photo of Maori stuff! And they told me I had to delete it! Every other thing in the museum you can take photos of or film, except the Maori stuff!!)- often there are signs posted somewhere - usually discreet, but usually somewhere 🤷🏼‍♀️

They have no legal right to stop you from filming in public. I believe the restriction applies to production companies in the filming industry. There's a video where a guy was filming on a boardwalk and threatened with arrest. They said he couldn't take a photograph on the boardwalk. It boiled down to an incorrect interpretation of an ordinance. If they're going to film a movie and use that area this city is entitled to some monetary gain. For private use however there should be no restriction. That's what my research found a couple years ago. But I'm no lawyer and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night. Thanks for the video Jordan

Jordan, you did a great job being respectful! It would be worth it to jump through the hoops to come back!

I’m from San Antonio, I love that you saw how truly nice people from the city are. The river actually is called the San Antonio River, it’ll run all the way til the coast. The reason you can’t just dive it randomly or people aren’t tubing in it is because the river it self is like a monument, it’s history is a significant part to the reason San Antonio was created. The riverwalk was way later created for tourists. The chair and beads probably come from the annual event held in San Antonio called Fiesta. They do drain the river completely, where you can see the bottom and pounds of trash is cleaned up. The bells you hear aren’t a clock tower but from a cathedral, another significant part of San Antonio’s history. I do hope you check out all the canyons and rivers(frio, paradise canyon, Guadalupe, sons island, and Medina, etc.) around San Antonio.
I hope you are able to receive your permit, Id love to see you and the gang dive the river.

I’ve been in Texas whole life born and raised. I can agree that they are very particular about not having people in the River Walk over at San Antonio. Was watching this now and kept thinking “how did you get allowed in the water?!?!” They are right though you can get a permit for specific areas to do those things (but I expect to be a hassle), and they do drag the water now and then for trash. Still awesome vid guys!!!!

Why don't they just close the River Walk and put barriers and gates around it?
