- Hi everyone, I'm here with a new Fishy Friday! Happy you're watching my new video! In this video, I am meeting my friends from the amazing Fair Trade certified tuna fishery in Indonesia. I'm cooking a local dish that they all love so much: Ikan Woku!
Stunning fresh ingredients such as various chili, garlic, ginger, tomatoes,
lemon grass, kafir lime and of course the todays hero: delicious canned tuna!
Fished by the fishermen, here on board. Easy and quick to make but sooo
good! We go out on one of the six boats to catch tuna in the most sustainable way: traditionally, with pole and line. When they land the fish, the tuna is immediately canned in the local factory close by the harbor. This way the economic value stays within the community. And what a community it is! Every time I visit Bitung I’m welcomed by lovely people and of course: amazing food!
Check out the full recipe here: www.sea-tales....
For my Dutch followers: www.fish-tales...
I hope you enjoy this video and keep supporting all these amazing sustainable fisheries around the globe. This fishery in Bitung is an example of how we should fish tuna in the future.

Woah that's a name I didn't expect to pop up. Awesome!
Happy to be back! Thanks for watching!
Wonderful recipe, I'm definitely going to give it a try. I didn't see the kurkuma mentioned in the recipe though, maybe 2cm? And can I use dried kaffir lime leaves? (hard to get the fresh ones around here)
Hi Laura, thanks for watching! I am not using kurkuma in the video but ginger. Is this what you mean? 2 cm would be fine. And you absolutely can use dried kaffir lime. In that case maybe a bit more to give it the flavor it needs.
@@Bartsfishtales Hello Bart, I thought you said turmeric right before the ginger? You're actually peeling it as well. But I'm sure it will taste amazing without as well. Thank you for sharing this with us. I'm a big fan, I've already bought 2 of your books.
Missed you Bart!
Happy to be back Rich! Thanks!
That looks really spicy. Cheers, Bart! ✌️
I was haha! But still very tasteful. Thanks for watching
finally🙂
:)
Looks good. I've never seen canned tuna prepared that way. And with the amount of chilies that you put in I can imagine how spicy it was haha
Edit: Just realised how long it has been since your last video. Welcome back!
Oh yeah, it was spicy but somehow it balanced quite well with the rest of the ingredients. Thanks for watching Farah! Really happy to be back
Thats not ginger, but galangga or laos
Hi Bart, long time no see. I hope all is well with you and yours, I’ve missed your videos so much. I hope you’re back for good.
(John from California)
Hi John, I am doing fine, thanks so much. It is great fun to start shooting vids again and for sure I am back for more videos soon. Thanks for watching John! And I am looking forward to my trip next month to California. Where are you based?
@@Bartsfishtales I’m n Northern California, a little town called Red Bluff, may I ask where you’re coming to?
@@ChezJohn Hi John, I’ll be traveling to LA and San Fransisco to promote my book and our Sea Tales seafood brand.
@@Bartsfishtales oh how awesome, not to be pushy Bart but San Francisco is only about three hours from me, I’d love to meet you and get your book, I’ve already had your tuna that I won that time so I know that’s delicious lol. Are there dates on your website when you’ll be in San Francisco, or is this a private affair? I’m really not trying to be pushy here Bart, but it would be really cool to see you and get your book POSSIBLY signed lol. Thanks Bart, I hope I’m not being that annoying American. 🤭
@@ChezJohn Thanks so much for your interest! This time I unfortunately won't have any public promotions. I only will be in SF for 2 days for sales meetings with retailers for my Sea Tales brand and the schedule is quite intense. Sure I will be back the beginning of next year. Would be great to see you then! Keep you posted...
Hang on a second, your on a tuna boat within inches of fresh caught caught tuna, and you use tinned fish…… WTF, this is not a cooking video, it’s an advertisement….
Welcome back Bart!
Thanks!
