I'm a die hard NC State fan but this was THE BEST Carolina and Duke basketball game i have ever watched in my opinion I mean THIS game right here, is what makes college basketball. The rivalry and the atmosphere.
I remember watching this game when I was only a sophomore in high school. I will say that this was definitely the best DUKE/UNC game I've ever watched!
This was absolutely the loudest game I'd ever been to, anywhere. I was lucky enough to go to every Duke game during my time at the school, and none of them really compared. There was no way we were not rushing the court. It was entirely sporadic -- the finish was simply too intense for people to stay where they were. I even saw Brad Daugherty on my way back to my seat. He rushed the court too. If I'm not mistaken, we sang the alma mater together. What a day!
You need to understand a couple things. One, seniors get tickets for the dook @ UNC game guaranteed, so nearly all of the people rushing the court were seniors. Two, those very same seniors watched the Heels go 8-20 their freshman year. This game was when the program finally recovered. I think those students who watched this team go from garbage to awesome DESERVED that moment. You are right, most times programs like UNC don't need to rush the court. But this was an acceptable exception.
they rushed the court because it was an amazing comeback with a fantastic finish. It doesn't matter who is favored. Anything can happen in a Duke UNC game, like hansborough in cameron his freshman year. A court rushing is testament to how important and how passionate the rivalry is.
this game capped a tremendous day in college basketball, as first Ohio State upset Illinois at the buzzer on a three pointer, then florida cam back and beat kentucky by a point, THEN unc charged back and took revenge for the game n cameron

I was there. I can't even explain the noise. It was so loud that there was NO noise....Just pressure on your head. Unreal. I ended up 10 rows from my seat. The best rivalry in all of sports. Just doesn't get better. Go Heels!!
@Toxicbunny1001 That's good. You can't be the best unless you beat the best. If you play the best competition that will really make you better. I graduated in May and i played 3 years on varsity at my school. Was co-captain Junior and Senior year. I was a combo guard.
@Toxicbunny1001 That's always a great way to learn. That's how I learned a lot about the game, just studying and watching. Always work hard though, and practice a TON. The more work you put in, the more you'll get out of it. Hopefully UNC can pay back Duke for last year.

I have been a Tarheel fan for 38 years. The National championship games when UNC won was awesome but this is my favorite regular season game of all time. When Marvin hit the shot I went crazy.. ( at home watching the game on TV). Roy Williams said that was the loudest he's heard the Dean Dome.
I agree. At the 2:50 mark the Duke player had the ball while closely guarded for 7 seconds -- 2 seconds too long. Even the announcer agreed. I am still trying to figure out how the ball was out on Felton at :36 after watching this over and over.

Best rivalry in sports.....I have been to others....not even close....pretty much because of the proximity of the schools tied with the sustained excellence..... No other rivalries have that part...
The level of talent and history in these Duke Carolina games is just off the charts. Seriously, I don't know how other college basketball teams take their games seriously. There is simply nothing like this rivalry. Nothing!
By far my favorite UNC/Duke game. Year after year we couldn't beat those bastards and it looked like they were gonna get us again. Then we just manned up and got it done. I think every true Tar Heel fan knew after we won this game that 2005 was our year.

Duke not having a third guard just made the game fair though. Rashad McCants was out for UNC and he was our leading scorer. We were shaking in our boots for this game because Rashad was out.
Totally agreed....I remember in '04 we lost 2 close games to Duke thanks to the antics of Chris Duhon.. then earlier in '05, we ended up losing by 1 point coz the boys couldn't get a shot off in the waning seconds. When Duke went up by 9, my heart sank for a while, but I didn't give up.. just kept watching.. This was sweet!!

@thetruth369 no not at all its always meant celebrating big wins and thats all like they did in the 80s in the NBA and NFL and college football for years and still do to this day. By the way this was a huge win because it was the reboot from the bad years they had in 2002 and 2003 and started back up in 04 and in 05 they reached the top again including getting a win over the program that had been owning them so it was necessary
Me too. I remember watching this game at my mom's with my brother (a Tar Heel fan) and my 2 cousins (dook fans). We had every television in the house, including the projection screen, on the game. We (my brother and I) were running all over the house every time Carolina scored, lol. The last 3 minutes (shown in this clip) were absolutely wild!
@scopapa33 Well UNC's recruiting class is good. They should have good guards and wings. But they are thin on post players since they lost Thompson, Davis, and both the Wear twins transferred. It'll be interesting, but I think they still need one more year to be real good again. Duke is gonna be back at the top next year. Their roster looks real good.
