    In 2019 I retired and settled in the Philippines. It was after a lot of research and travel to 18 countries. I am here on the SRRV (Special Resident Retiree's Visa). I am happy here and I will stay here permanently. I chose to retire here because the weather is nice, the people are friendly, I pay zero tax on my foreign income and there is xenophilia here (love of foreigners). Which is the exact opposite of the xenophobia I faced in the USA and Canada.

    After being connected to Filipinos for nearly 30 years, I’ve concluded that your average Filipino families are winners. It’s a generalization and there’s losers too. I’m just saying that when compared to most people, theses folks are cool, very cool. They make good friends, spouses and side kicks ( the type of person to take with you for any occasion). They are very funny and I never get bored with them either.

    I have made a few brief visits to the Philippines over the past 11 years but this current visit is my longest yet and almost three weeks. I have commented on this in another of your videos already so please forgive me for repeating, but I have so many great interactions everyday with ordinary Filipinos it make me look forward to getting up in the morning and heading out! There are many countries with friendly people and SE Asia is my favourite region of the world in this regard - but PH is in a class of its own. Amazing! So I think more and more that I will move here permanently. Thanks for this video. Oh yeah, and you are right about the scuba diving. I did it for the first time here, an assisted dive with just myself and the instructor for 45 minutes - I was crying in my mask - the underwater world blew my mind. Breathtaking - which is a scary thing when you are 10 meters under water!!

    My goal retiring in the PI is to live a DRAMA FREE life. I've watched 100's of expat video's and one thing stood out. The retired expats especially with large age gap who became seriously involved with a young PI women ended up with boat loads of DRAMA. My goal is to avoid any serious female relationships. Casual dating relationships are just fine BUT, if you move a girl into your residence you are asking for drama. I'm just getting to damn old to put up with ANY drama. I'm looking for a quiet peaceful life style in the PI until the end comes and I move from this life to eternity.

      I was this close to retiring in The Philippines but now I have decided to retire in Portugal instead, only because of the new law that clearly states that if a Filipina as much as even tells the police that you mistreated her or tried to abuse her or fought with her or tried to cheat her, they (the police) will immediately arrest you and the judge will give you a lengthy jail time. Yes! This is the new law in Philippines. There is no appeal whatsoever.
      So, by virtue of this new rule, you are basically at the mercy of a Filipina - be it your wife, your girlfried or just a hooker. Be very very careful of Filipinas, guys. If you want to have a peaceful retiment, do some research on Google. Two excellent options (far better than The Philippines) are Portugal and Thailand. Both these amazing countries have stable electricity, stabe internet, low crime rate and awesome weather, delicious cuisine and low monthly expenditure. Portugal is particularly attractive because you are suddenly at a stone's throw from all the beautiful European countires. Thailand has amazing beaches and the cuisine is just too good. The Thai people are very polite and respectful.
      Make an informed decision. Be wise.

      @@steveperyer4850 Thanks for mentioning older Filipina. I'm close to your age and agree with you. Older Filipina are a far better choice then some young girl who has zero life experience. Personally I'm done with any serious relationships with women of any age. But that's just me after a failed 22 year marriage. I have zero desire to have a live-in women. I enjoy my freedom to do as I please without the input of a live-in partner. BUT I do wish you all the best as you've made the best choice to make you happy. We both have limited time left and must do what makes us happy. My brother-in-law just passed away at age 68. It was a real shock and reminded me to do whatever makes me happy and fulfilled.

      @@allahkimakichoot Portugal is a beautiful country BUT my meager retirement budget prevents me from living there. Thailand was my first choice UNTIL they changed expat rules. Definitely not as expat friendly as they were over 3 years ago. Can you post this new law so I can bring it to my attorney's attention. One thing about the PI is sometimes they enforce laws on the books and sometimes they don't. I've watched many men on Raffy Tulfo channel where Filipina accuse them of abuse BUT they aren't in JAIL.

    I just returned from 3 weeks in Manila and can say that the people are very nice. My favorite thing was seeing my fiance and her daughter. Some things I especially liked were the courteous and friendly people, attending Victory Church, the tasty fresh foods, uptown BGC area, the market, and the security that was present everywhere. Bohn Chon and Andokes were a few favorite places I liked to eat and my most favorite desert was the egg tart from Lord Stow's bakery. I wish we had security like the Phillipines in the states. Lord knows we could use it. I also wish I could buy egg tarts here. Really! You have to try them.
    The only negative thing I experienced, but was only a few times, were taxis trying to overcharge because I was American. My fiance was upset a few times with taxi drivers doing that, but like I said, it wasn't every taxi driver. Some were most excellant and represented the Phillipines very well. The culture of respect, valuing marriage and family, Christianity, and a general sense of pride in doing things well were and are most attractive to me.

They came in with winter jackets gloves and hats and were shivering huddling up to one another because of the cold, we were working in the freezer that stays at 0 degrees Fahrenheit, I was in my regular work uniform. A half hour later I was down to a t-shirt because of sweating and had ice in my hair, they were still together huddling for warmth, I knew that to keep warm you have to move and did pretty much the entire onload myself but I was okay with that, I did feel sorry for them though. It's not $10K USD dear, it's $20K USD that you have to deposit in Philippine bank as part of SSRV. It's only a $10K USD deposit if you choose the tier that involves making an investment (either purchasing a condo or entering into a long term lease agreement for a home and lot having a >$50K USD value). If you want to just retire in the Philippines without having to buy a condo or make such an early commitment to a lease, you have to plop down a cool $20K USD. There are also initial fees involved, costing around $2K USD, and every two years you have to re-up your registration at a cost of just under $400 USD.

I plan on moving and hoping to marry a pretty Filipino woman. I love the Philippines I love everything about the Philippines. But there are many bad things about the Philippines also. There are so many single Filipino women with children and married Filipino women because their Filipino boyfriend or husband has left them. So many stories. I have also noticed that a Filipino woman if they marry an older man can be so ridiculed and pretty much mentally tortured by her own relatives in her family.!! Being called a Golddigger, and many other things from her own family. That is kind of sad.. is it wrong for a Filipino woman to want happiness and love even if the man is older.!! I personally could easily marry a woman with children. I love children, I am a single parent and I have a 12-year-old daughter and a 14 year old son and I am a man and I take care of them myself.. I guess my point is no matter what culture you will always find differences, I have not been to the Philippines yet but it is my dream to come. I am learning to speak Tagalog and Basaya.. and truly Filipino people are wonderful beautiful people but you will find bad and good everywhere and I think the only thing that I have discovered is how bad a Filipino can be treated from her own family…

    Things are changing. Middle class is slowly eroded all around. People have less and less money to carry to retirement. Maybe it is a good thing for Philippines because what could mean a decent life in the Philippines, is a struggle at the edge of poverty in the west. Million dollars is just pocket money soon enough.

    The moment you land in the country, you will be greeted warmly at the airport, at the hotel, at the restaurant and just about everywhere you go. You will be given much attention and care. You will really feel welcome here, guys.
    What Rubeauti said above is ABSOLUTELY TRUE - provided you are white. YES! Like how white people have the yellow fever, Filipinas have the Milk Fever. Trust me, if you land at the airport and you happen to be a black person or a brown person (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Middle Eastern) or a Chinese or Burmese or Thai etc, you will not get more than a glance. Filipinas are like vultures who patiently wait for white meat (and white sperm) because if they land even a white grandfather husband from US, UK, Canada, Australia, NZ or any rich European country, there's a definite chance that the Filipina will get a white baby that has blue/green eyes, straight nose and good height. By marrying a white man, she is also ensured that he will take care of her parents, her 10,000 siblings and 100,000 cousins, aunts, uncles, members of her extended family and even neighbors. Her status in the Filipino society is suddenly elevated by at least a 1000 notches and then there's this age factor too. Every Filipina, regardless of how childish and silly and vulnerable she acts in front of you, is extremly shrewd and conniving. She knows very well that her grandfather husband has only so many years to live and if she plays her cards right, she can, (no, she will) be a very rich woman in the near future.
    Be very very careful guys. Don't fall prey to golddiggers.

    I was in Alaska for 3 years and North Dakota for 4 where it gets down to 40-60 BELOW 0 and yes TONS of snow. I would be interested in retiring in a place that's more provincial, with a city somewhat close by, maybe 30 minutes drive away for more shopping opportunities, a non-touristy place with as few foreigners as possible. I've been around foreigners all my life, going there would be for a change, and how am I going to learn about the people and culture if I'm just around foreigners that I've always been around. Hopefully lucky enough to find that one special angel to settle down, relax, enjoy the little things in life, and make memories together.
    If someone is on a pension already or barely getting by in their own country, the likelihood they have an extra $10,000 (Is it actually $10K DOLLARS or Pesos?) laying around to deposit into a bank there isn't very high, and from what I've heard, they can't withdraw the money ever, even after getting a permanent Visa.

  • @michaelbass5966
    @michaelbass5966 Před 2 lety

    If you have a Pension that's paid into a Bank Account, like from the UK, converted into Peso in the UK and you withdraw Peso each month, the Bank takes out "Withholding Tax" every few months, so you pay a Tax and of course a VAT of 12% on much of what you buy or eat too and a 12% VAT on your Electric Bill and Internet Bill too. Thanks.

    Yes, world famous for being friendly people, no question. Filipinos are indeed special. However, we still should keep in mind the reality that Filipinos are still humans. "Friendly" is a relative rating. Foreigners are still foreign...visitors. Just as a Filipino in the US will often be greeted and treated well, they will also experience prejudice and be looked down on by many people too. A foreigner in PH is seen as a source of money. A foreigner will pay higher prices whenever there is an opportunity. So yes, absolutely you will get a smile as you hand over that foreigner tax. This is the same as in the US. When Arabs, Japanese, Canadians in the past brought a lot of property in the US they were treated very well because they were paying higher prices for property.
    A foreigner in a traffic wreck is almost always be expected to pay the other party no matter who's fault. And the amount you will pay will be much higher as a foreigner.
    Everything is cheaper in PH...Nope. Not even close. A US renter moving to PH will find much cheaper rent. But a US homeowner won't be allowed to own land in PH so will have to pay rent instead of gaining appreciation in the US. But units in PH have a lower value too. In the US you may pay a little more for rent but you won't have rude neighbors playing loud karaoke at all hours, the endless dog barking, roosters crowing. smoke from burning leaves and trash or at least you can have the local government step in to get a rude neighbor to stop. AND rent is cheaper in PH ONLY if you compare it to rents in popular US locations. There are many places in the US with rents in the $300-400 range which is about the same for the same type of place in PH. As they say, Manila isn't cheaper....because it's more like the US in infrastructure, medical and with rules against some noise level and burning trash. Apples to apples.
    Food is the same price or higher in PH. Even things like bananas are about the same price....plus the foreigner tax.
    This is just how humans work.

    • @neilgunns8391
      @neilgunns8391 Před 2 lety

      You're not gonna find rent anywhere you wanna live in one single place in the USA for double to triple 300 to 400 a month. No way. Give me even one and I'll gladly send you 400.
      I will agree with you about the noise. One advantage of Indonesia is the only place you'd find barking dogs was Bali.
      You can buy property. Just find a filipina that will put up with your highly cynical point of view. 😝

    • @neilgunns8391
      @neilgunns8391 Před 2 lety +1

      How many decades ago were Arabs, Japanese, and Canadians paying more for property? Definitely wasn't anytime I can remember. If you truly are being looked down on for be a foreigner, I'd bet anything it's because of your really cynical way of looking at others. I've traveled a lot of places....not the Philippines yet. I've been to other countries in SE Asia though, and I have to say that I've felt more animosity in one trip to Walmart than all my travels. Considering the Philippines is considered the friendliest....I doubt my white azz will have a problem. Cheer up grumpy....you'll enjoy your travels more. 😃
