I know a lot of viewers here may not know it, but the original US theatrical release (where I first saw it) actual did include the first few notes of the song and the joke made sense. That led to some legal wrangling over rights and it was changed to this random riff on all subsequent releases. If you've only seen it on video, cable, or overseas the joke falls a bit flat.

From what I’ve heard, yes. Mike Myers based that scene on an actual music store he visited in the UK that banned customers from playing Stairway to Heaven because the owners got tired of hearing everybody trying to play it and from what I’ve heard a lot of stores have the same rule for the same reason and have other songs on the ban list like Smoke on the Water.
Why is the sweet neon sign gone? If it was built by the movie company and they took it down after filming , I'd had another just like it built . Really made the store POP!
I work on guitars, owned and played Strat and Tele guitars for many years. If you did what she said to the bridge and nut, it would totally fuck up the action, and it would never stay in tune. You adjust the truss rod to nearly flatten the neck, level the fretboard, crown the frets, then set the action/intonation at the bridge. No need to fuck with the nut unless it was plastic, replace it with bone. No buzz. She's nuts.
