Elvis lived near the black district in his town, where he would go nearly every night to watch black entertainers perform and he picked up on what they were doing and many of their stylizations doing their acts, he mixed it all together and along with the gospel blues from the churches, he put it altogether and created his own style and music, birthing to white America Rock and Roll as it never had been seen before. He was intelligent when it came to his talent, but was hard pressed by his manager Tom Parker, who was only in it for the money, knowing he had the golden goose Elvis. Another thing about his manager is, that he didn't have a passport, which required that he prove he was an American citizen, so to avoid being found out, he never allowed Elvis to tour outside of the country. To the loss of his many fans across the world. That also made Elvis Presley unique to the American audience, that he was their own all American super star.

21 year old Elvis in his break out year, here on the Ed Sullivan Show (Sep. 9/56) shot from the waist up.
Ed, with the most popular show on TV, refused to have Elvis perform on his show after the outrage of his 'obscene' 'Hound Dog' performance on the Milton Berle Show (June 5/56). But Elvis was such a HUGE draw that Ed couldn't ignore the ratings potential. (Ed paid Elvis an unprecidented $50,000 for 3 shows. That's $471,000 in today's money!).

  • @patrickdevries6267

This is the first appearance in the Ed Sullivan show anno 1956. In the 50's there were in fact two icons who made the whole difference for the youth and that's James Dean and ELVIS PRESLEY and they had a profounding effect on young peoples lives and they still do, it is AMAZING! Now Elvis was also overwhelming because he was the first male singer loved by boys and girls. Back to the fifties, music was very serious for young people, it was big you know, so they went to a restaurant, club or bar and went to the jukebox to spend a nikkel to hear a song, and before Elvis boys would choose a female singer like Doris Day or Patti Page and the girls a male singer like Perry Como or Frank Sinatra, they were also popular in these days, till Elvis came and Elvis brought them togehter. There was absolutely no hesitation with Elvis stuff on both sides, boys and girls. Really man, he was unbelievable. He was revolution, he changed our way to listen to music and had a profounding effect on all our lives, culturally, emotionally, spiritually.... AMAZING!!!

If you would watch a compilation of tv fragments from that time to show you that picture you will understand how strangely, different, dangerous and modern Elvis' performances back then were. He took America overnight and took giant steps right into a new future and right into the revolutionairy sixties. The way he moves, his facial expressions don't look outdated at all unlike that same compilation as mentioned before. He was just so……………….different.

See, elvis Presley was a force of nature.
His critically acclaimed studio recordings at sun studios were the fusion of black blues with white country. The sheer diversity soul and artistry of elvis is like a ball of dynamite!
Bringing black and white music together.
Then, after the 50's, elvis branched out into several different genres of music, with much critical acclaim I might add.
    That's the amazing thing.
In spite of such a short time on earth, he packed a lot of greatness in his critically acclaimed body of work.

Elvis was the one who brought dancing during his performances they had even blacklisted him from TV for a while because they said his dancing was to immoral. The reason you saw him from the waist up because Elvis was banned from being shown on live television Wrist down. This is one of the rare live performances in his early days. It eventually got so bad that he eventually was no longer able to perform live. Preachers preached against him and radio stations had days when they broke up his records live on the air. As a result, Colonel Parker took Elvis off to Hollywood., and there he made some 21 movies before coming back to live performances. That's where you see the unplugged concert him and his leather suit. and where fans are sitting around him. Hence, a new undiscovered musical phenomenon unplugged performances... I believe this was before 1959. When I was born because I discovered Elvis when he was making movies. In fact, it was the first movie I had ever attended without my mom. It was called girls girls girls!

If u notice, this video was done b4 he decided to dye his natural brown hair black. He never went back to his natural brown once he dyed it. I believe he still had brown hair in one or maybe his 1st 2 movies. Can't be sure.

ED Sullivan open the flood gates for Elvis,,, THAT WAS THE TURNING POINT
FOR NOT ONLY ELVIS BUT THE WORLD , WHEN ED SAID HE WAS A FINE DECENT
BOY ELVIS WAS NOW GIVEN THE OK FROM THE OLDER GENERATIONS MAN {ED
SULLIVAN} BACK THEN IF ED SAID YOU WERE OK YOU WERE OK AND THAT CHANGED
THE WORLDS LOOK UPON ELVIS AND THEY BOTH KNEW IT SEE ED WAS FORCED TO
PUT ELVIS ON HIS SHOW, BUT HE DID NOT WANT TO CAUSE ED HEARD BAD ABOUT
ELVIS BUT AFTER THE TIME TOGETHER WITH ELVIS ED FOUND OUT ELVIS WAS A
VERY KIND DECENT PERSON AND THAT WAS THAT !!!!! PEACE
