This series was extremely hard to watch because it's so triggering and I'm not talking about the horror, yet I had to finish it. The writing was great and it is a necessary discomfort that Americans need to feel. It is very factual about American history. Also the acting was amazing even the children.
I had to take many breaks because I identified with so many of the events. I attended a small Catholic school in Detroit beginning in 1959. All of the students were Black. Our teachers were white nuns. During our daily music classes I remember singing Old Black Joe. The song book included Dixie, Camp Town Races, and other minstrel songs. As if I was singing in a foreign language, I sang the words without understanding their meaning. The nuns were adults and did understand. Were they playing a cruel racist joke?

Never understood why African women are bleaching their skin. This is fashionable in Africa. God made no mistake in giving us our features, hair and beauty in shades of colors in blk people. Bullying is when a blk woman must feel pressured to look European in some way, by hair, weight, dressing and speech. Yes African women are beautiful when they embrace their natural self. So many Europeans around the world is fascinated with dark skin. Weather its from India, Africa, or any country melinated people are awesome blessed not to need make up to add shade. Who needs make up not melinated woman. Bleaching is self hatred. Love and accept blk beauty naturally 💕. God made many people beautiful, refuse bleaching of the skin ♥ European brainwashing.
Some Asian women also bleach their skin. I'll never understand either. I think I'll eventually go back to natural hair one of these days, but for now my hair is permed.

Very easy for the audience to get distracted by this woman's look and she has one. Her talent is visceral. Committed. She doesn't need make up. The camera loves her and she emotes very well. The show starts zero to sixty and doesn't slow down. Her performance strokes the heart but really goes for the gut. Each character has their personal demon plugging into that awful racial terrain.
