That scene when the kids were taunting her in class was sooo upsetting and brought me to tears! This series was so profound 👏🏽👏🏽
I’m Mexican indigenous decent and when she talked about praying she would be lighter skinned or that she thought if she was lighter she would be more beautiful it broke my heart. I remember crying as a child because I hated my brown skin and trying to stay out of the sun because I thought it would keep my skin from turning brown. My mother is mixed with Spanish so she looks white sometimes with her light skin and green eyes, and my younger brother looked just like her. The older women in our community would always compliment my brother and whenever they saw me they would just ask my mother “is she yours too?” Which my mother would always reply “yes my little beautiful girl, she resembles her dads side of the family.” Thank goodness my mother never made me feel less valuable for the color of my skin, even though colorism is very much alive and thriving in Latin/Hispanic cultures.
thanks for sharing and dispelling the myth that indigenous latin, Hispanic people all hate themselves, Hate BP and want to be Caucasian. Kudos to your mom for loving you and instilling self love, awareness and beauty, in who and what you are
Mexican Indigenous 😂, smh. Yall are hybrid eurasian
@@garyAjames Deborah ayorinde her heart is what attracts me instead of the rude shit people would say like her tits and stuff, no her heart
Her beauty is absolutely other-worldly: inside and out. 🥰
It’s so sad that Deborah had all these insecurities because throughout the entire series I kept saying to myself how strikingly beautiful she is. I felt that way about the 2 girls too.
She's one of the most stunning people I've ever seen, so it was so odd when I heard her talk about her insecurities. Apparently even the most beautiful among us are not always comfortable in our skin. Sad.
Lord she is gorgeous
I said the same thing
Yes. She. Is.
She's beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
Absolutely
Dare I say it, she’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.
This Series is mind boggling. "Whatcha gonna do ""Whatcha gonna do""😭😭💔💔
This was heartbreaking...more so cause ...it’s true. Like these are thoughts that are had yo. Love every word of this
Man, this show... it was so hard to watch! like my heart was breaking into a million pieces as the episodes went by. is a necessary story to tell, and through the efforts of the production and the cast we can see, there was a lot of care put into every single scene. The message I bring out of those painful 10 episodes is that the biggest horror here lies in the reality of the circumstances more than any fabricated monster. And as we continue to watch black bodies being murdered, unfortanelly, this just validates that we still have a long way to go.
You are absolutely beautiful and hearing you talk about your childhood brought tears to my eyes.
The scene where she's covered in white paint dancing in front of the other white kids pretending to be a white cheerleader, I felt like that was the perfect example to show white people how black face feels to us. Someone putting your entire race in a stereotypical box and performing it in front of you.
I saw it as how the media pushes poc to look more white and it was heartbreaking.
@@Kickballkixcereal *Black people, not POC. This specifically refers to Black people. Maybe you don’t mean any harm, but not recognizing and or sugarcoating who this effects is also part of the issue. Black face was specifically targeted at Black Americans. Not inclusive of POC. Please get it right so the narrative ISN’T misconstrued.
@@nicoletaylor1497
They were talking about media and how it pushes POC to be lighter.
Not the black face. We know the black face targeted black people. But it’s true that media pushes people to think the more light/pale the better
@@nicoletaylor1497 thank you
plus the emotion on this actress's voice compiled with those specific images, just makes me sad all over again.
I was in awe of her beauty all through the series.
Sad to listen that she too had insecurities growing up..
Finished watching it today. Love it! Well directed, written, the acting was outstanding! Highly recommended. A+
This woman is beautiful... Godddd she's out the space
Little Marvin is brilliant he is a genius and the whole cast is amazing I am in love with Ashley Thomas the father
I was crying when she painted her skin
I am watching this at the moment and its amazing. Love that its a beautiful looking and loving black family. Representing dark skin is so heart warming. The acting is great. Have to say how proud to see to Black British actors in this series. I in the UK 🇬🇧 am hoping to see more films and shows that show black people in different stories. I appreciate and applaud 👏 you all. Great casting.
she’s so pretty
What a beautiful interview! Deborah and Ashiley really did a great job being the gilrs' parents, and the fact that Deborah needed to love herself better so the girls could do the same is beautiful. The show is really deep, and I think people should really watch it and try to understand it, because as the cast said "there are difficult scenes to watch, but is a necessary process to go through".
Brilliant writing and acting. Deborah, you were sensational!
This is powerful and deep.
I used to think like this when I was younger now I accept my skin and love who and what I am and I am and proud of it😌❤.
This show is amazing and scary as hell.....seen three episodes and will watch rest today. Best show amazon has made along with hunters
Good luck...I had to stop after episode 3...I had to watch funny videos just get past a few messed up scenes😟
@@abemcg3803 aww sorry to hear that, it is a shocking show in many parts and not for everyone , maybe revisit it again when your able and just watch one episode at a time or something.
This show is trash and unnecessary. I'm tired of shows like this
@@blackdynamite5016 I perosnally enjoyed it yes it's dark and disturbing and controversial for some but it was still well acted , well made and scary.
@@RustyDarkStone I hear you. I come from the aspect of not wanting to see us in this light anymore. These are the only kind of shows and movies they make now. Some kind of trauma, slavery etc. Hollywood refuses to back movies and shows that show us as kings and queens. The kingdoms of Giza, Kush, the story of Mansa Musa the richest man in human history, those stories won't b told cause they don't want us to think of ourselves in that light. Prime example, the movie called Gods of Egypt had Gerard Butler and other whites portraying Egyptian gods. When does the whitewashing stop, when do the traumatic racist or slave movies and shows stop being made. Black history didn't start from slavery and the Jim Crow era
Deborahs Beauty is astounding ♥️🥰
Anyone else getting a “get out” and “us” mix up
Yes I get a mixture of both and it’s creepy
Yes but this was way more powerful
Yes
yeah just 10x more traumatic lol
Deborah is so gorgeous and Ashley is handsome. The girls are beautiful too 💚
Great cast
Seen the first episode and man was it great. The castings and acting was superb and not only that, I bit all my nails , so I don't need to cut them... thank you Amazon for this gem.
You guys killed it
I love this so far.
Its sad to say this but im sure we all want to wear different shoes daily, its the internal conversation we have. Validate appearance to validate the heart and mind.
I continued watching and thinking about how beautiful she is! She’s a gorgeous woman!
The farms in representation.the storey line the actor everything about this was just perfectttttt and scary ✨
Gosh this SHOW IS AMAZING
She's fine!
So heartbreaking to watch knowing my people went through such horrible disgusting things. The classroom scene was very hard to watch. Unfortunately a lot of us black girls went through not liking our hair or skin. I just cried like a baby when she said she prayed her skin would be lighter. My God🥺😭we are SO BEAUTIFUL

Omg deborah😥
Classic lady!
Black gold she is
That little girl is from fatherhood!
Wow
This makes me sad
🙏💙💙💯💯💖💖
Amazing actors but poorly written show with pure exploitation on black racism trauma. I was disturbed but I was not entertained.
She look like my ex
Only bad thing about the show 😂
The Huxtables 2.0.
Misclick
She is so fine

In episode 5 her character is sexually assaulted while her baby's life is ended before her eyes. Trash show. Extremely disturbing. The cast will probably be mentally messed up for the remainder of their career because of this show. The creator must have some deep issues. The whole show is just a trauma fetish series.
Either you missed the message or can’t relate. This happened to many families in the 2000’s
