  • Absolutley trashed, diamond cut Audi A1 wheels refurb. These things were thrown in the skip at an Audi dealer (obv after charging the customer a stupid amount for new wheels).

      when you painted the wheels and then sand the aluminum part back to its original state witch sandpaper did you use?

    • @thewheelguy9496
      @thewheelguy9496  Před 2 lety +9

      Sorry for the delay DJ LACURA, Firstly I use a "flap wheel" on a grinder to take the edge off, then 120, 180, 320 and 400 grit sanding discs on a DA sander. Then, make a brushed aluminium effect with either 320 gold flex pads or grey scotch bright. Still awake? grey scotch the whole wheel and use 2k diamond cut clear coat and bake for 20mins.

    Hi mate, silly question but.. do these wheels need to be re-balanced after taking that much material off? saw some big craters in there

    • @thewheelguy9496
      @thewheelguy9496  Před 2 lety

      They would as they dont have tyres on. If the tyres are'nt removed (the bead only broken) they they should be ok.

    I have done this before on my MC40 and a Infinti G35 but have not tried to do it on my Porsche Macan because no one has the exact paint code for the wheels, my have to go to the dealer.

    I have the same wheels, but the damage is only on the lip, and I want to keep the original machined/satin finish. Is a clear coat or any type of coating necessary after sanding and polishing the machined surface?

      I'm in the same boat as you.

    • @thewheelguy9496
      @thewheelguy9496  Před rokem +2

      Hiya Kris, I find clear coating the whole wheel is the best way. It keeps the grey intact while
      Protecting the bare alloy lip.
      Sand the lip with 120, 180, 320, 400 disks. Use grey scotch brite to polish/brush the lip and key the grey. Wash it all off with soapy water. When dry, hit it with 2 coats of clear. Ideally 2k though a gun (1.0tip hvlp is my preferred). If spray can, it’s usually only single pac clear so not very durable but you can buy 2k in a tin (activates via push button on the base).
      Hope this helps.

    How long it take you to do 4 of those ??? I’ll
    Have it prepped and in lacquer in 30 min !!!
    Try using a rotary polisher with 120/180 then 400 on da then false d-cut lines with a red or grey scotch ! 💪

    ciao amico, puoi aiutarmi ......... Quale trasparente usi, non è necessario applicare il primer sull'alluminio puro? Il trasparente 2K aderisce bene? grazie per la risposta

    • @TheAlpins
      @TheAlpins Před rokem

      Ciao come stai, generalmente le ruote diamantate non usano primer dopo il rivestimento di base, quindi applico solo 2k di costi trasparenti e balle a 70 gradi per 30 minuti.

      @@TheAlpins Thank you for your answer, so you say to give the 2k clear coat directly on the pure aluminum, it does not peel over time, I thought I would first give TALKEN 9041 clear primer product (only on the bare aluminum parts) and then the 2k .. ............what do you think about it ?
