  • Avoid these mistakes when changing chrome light fixtures to gold (light fixture makeover). I'm changing chrome light fixtures to look like gold & share how to avoid these mistakes. There's the right way to change a chrome light fixture to beautiful gold and then there's chaos. If you want to change your chrome light fixture to a beautiful gold watch this to the end. This is my experience trying two methods for changing chrome to gold and I share my mistakes so you can avoid them and do it the right way!
You change the chrome to look realistic and not that fake yellow painted look. Does Rub n Buff work on light fixtures or kitchen knobs and pulls? Want to change your kitchen cabinet drawer pulls and knobs from stainless steel to gold but you're not sure how? Watch this before you start using rub and buff. There's plenty to know if you want to change your chrome light fixtures to look like gold. You might not want them to look fake, like that cheap gold that is obviously spray paint. I wanted a gold tone light fixture that looked high end. I tried two DIY methods in an effort to achieve this. I used gold spray paint and Rub n' Buff. But hold on! Before you grab that spray paint or this Rub and Buff product, you'll want to watch the video. Avoid common mistakes that could turn your exciting DIY project from glam to gloom. At one point, I thought I had ruined my chrome light fixtures and felt devastated. After hours of trying to fix them, I finally figured it out. Achieving a gold plated look for metals is possible, but there's a lot I learned in the process. You can change metals such as chrome or stainless steel, but there's plenty to know before you get started. I'm also debunking some myths about using rub and buff on everything. Yes, Rub n' Buff works, but it's primarily meant for smaller projects such as picture frames, ornaments and other decor items. You'll see I also tried to use it on stainless steel kitchen drawer pulls and I debunked plenty of videos I had seen online about how great they worked for this. Make sure you do your research before you use this or any other product for your DIY projects and even then, beware you might have to test plenty before you attempt a large project like this one. There's much to know BEFORE you get started. I did end up loving the results though.
Products I can recommend in this video.
Rub 'n Buff Antique Gold: amzn.to/46GwxAw
    Clean Metal Primer: amzn.to/4a2FGXb
Prickly Pear Oil I use to heal cuts and scrapes: amzn.to/3sWT3rf
My friend uses this Prickly Pear Oil and loves it: amzn.to/3NhybSa
Note: I used the Antique Gold Rub 'n Buff Metallic Wax - but I would have also like to test the other gold tones to see if they are indeed more modern. If you'd like to do that then get this sample: amzn.to/3Gv3SUf
What color is that awesome blue? It's called Van Deusen Blue HC-156 by Benjamin Moore. I love this color so much and I painted another piece of furniture with that color. The paint is called Advance and its typically used for doors, cabinets and furniture. I probably should make another video sharing more about my favorite paints and paint colors (since I seem to be fascinated by paint. LOL)

You couldn’t have picked more beautiful colors for your light fixtures, they are gorgeous!!!!

Oh wow. Before I say anything else, let me say that they are absolutely gorgeous with the blue and the gold. Beautiful beautiful job and I'm sorry you had to go through so much work to get there but oh my gosh they're beautiful. But yes, you have deterred me. I saw people on Instagram doing bathtub hardware and sink hardware, you know, faucets, etc. And I thought oh that's a great way to get rid of the chrome fixtures in my old bathroom without having to buy new ones and pay a plumber. I know I can't change the fixtures on a tub. So I ran out this morning and bought a tube of antique gold rub buff and came home to try to watch some people use it. I wish I had done that and the reverse order lol. If it's coming off your drawer pulls with normal use, it sure isn't gonna work for what I wanted to do with it. But I'm so so grateful that I came up on your video and I have subscribed because you really explained things so very very clearly. I'm all for honesty so thank you for yours.

Thank you! Your message means a lot to me. And yes sometimes it looks so easy online but… You can use the rub and buff on other projects that don’t get so much wear and tear. I’m sure the creative project will soon show up. 😁

Thank you! I was having the same problem when I used this. I've used it before np, on an antique handle, but this time I used it on new chrome, and it was not having it! lol, it was too smooth.
