    DeZURIK Eccentric Plug Valves
This video is going to show you how to replace the packing on the DeZURIK Eccentric Plug Valve without Removing the Actuator
The tools you will need include a copy of the instruction, a utility knife with a sharp blade, a straight screwdriver, a Philips head screw driver, a vice grips, a needle nose plier, a wrench, a sheet rock screw, a packing removal tool, a side cutter, and the new packing rings.
For safety, Ensure pipeline pressure does not exceed 25 psi. If possible, relieve pipeline pressure to 0.
Ensure material in pipeline will not cause injury if leakage occurs
The gland is eaily accessible with most DeZURIK actuators. These accessbile gland nuts canbe tightened to adjust the packing if any leakage is present. If leak cannot be stopped by tightening the gland nuts, the packing needs to be replaced. When it is time to replace the packing, begin by loosening the gland nuts from the studs using a wrench. When the nuts are loosened, they can be removed.
The gland can be slid up the stem of the plug. Twisting the gland slightly will allow it to rest on top of the studs.
Next, remove the studs from the bonnet.
To keep the gland lifted out of the work area, a piece of wire can be threaded through the gland and over the top of the actuator.
The first ring to be removed is the female packing adapter. It is a thicker, more rigid ring. Use a needle nose plier to pry it up and use the side cutter to slice the ring. Another option is to use the flat head screw driver to get under the ring and lift it out of the packing chamber. A third option is to use the sheet rock screw to pierce and then lift the packing ring.
The Packing Removal Tool can be used to extract each of the softer, more flexible packing rings that follow. The side cutter will easily snip the rings which can then be lifted out with the needle nose pliers.
The bottom ring is the male packing adapter. It is also a rigid ring like the female adapter at the top of the stack.
To prepare the new packing, cut each ring radially in one place with a razor sharp knife.
Make sure any debris or pieces of old packing are cleared out of the chamber before inserting new rings. Beginning with the male packing adapter, place each new packing ring, one at a time, around the valve stem. Be certain that the joints are staggered and press down into the packing chamber.
The last ring to go into the chamber is the larger, female adapter.
When all rings have been placed in the chamber, release the gland and place the studs back into the bonnet.
Turn the gland nuts onto the studs until they touch the gland, then one more turn.
Restore pipeline pressure and check packing for leakage. If leakage occurs, tighten each packing nut just enough to stop the leakage. Excessive tightening will cause reduced packing life and higher valve operating torque.
