This was really helpful, thank you for sharing! My daughters behavior is often dismissed because of her age (5) and I am now starting to think maybe her gender as well. Its so hard when the doctors don't want to listen. I feel like our pediatrician thinks I am overreacting with my daughters behavioral concerns. I also fear that because she is homeschooled, that will also be another excuse the doctor will use for her behavior. I really just want an answer so I can give her the best tools and to educate myself as well. Do you have any resources or suggestions for parents with ADHD children? I often feel myself at a loss of what to do as both myself and my oldest daughter have never presented as neurodiverse. Also I am curious if you ever looked in to or experimented with natural options for treating and helping with ADHD?

I'm sorry your doctor is being dismissive of your concerns for all those reasons too. It's so frustrating. If you want a clear answer you can take her to a neuropsychologist or psychiatrist for a proper evaluation. They can give you a more clear picture what is going on than most general practitioners. If you search FB groups, there are some great groups for parents of kids with ADHD. Lots of resources there. I know the gal from Project Happy Home has a bunch of videos on raising and homeschooling a kid with adhd. Seth Perler on YT is an AMAZING resource in learning how to support kids with executive dysfunction. As far as natural treatments, there are a few things we have tried. Therapy with a therapist that specializes in adhd is huge in giving them strategies to use and systems to put in place. I have a few friends who do a high protein diet with their kids with moderate success. There are also nootropic supplements you can get which is an alternative to prescription stimulants. My husband and I have tried them and the do help a bit, but not nearly as much as medication in our experience. It is a good supplement though. Caffeine is a natural stimulant that can actually help. On really rough homeschool days before medication, I would give my kids a half a cup of coffee or a caffeine supplement and it definitely helped. Lots of options. We have tried just about everything, and I think you have to do some trial and error with your own kid and just see what works best. For us, the combination of therapy and medication has made the biggest difference. Best wishes!

I feel the same way. My kids pediatrician keeps dismissing my concerns and even said that we don't have a teacher's opinion, and basically implied that it was only my opinion as a mom. I'm ready to switch doctors at this point.

@@capturinglifeinprogress1999 it’s frustrating! My pediatrician typically has the child’s teacher fill out a form/questionnaire before going down the road of diagnosing for ADHD. I get wanting a non bias perspective on the situation, but I’m pretty sure I’m more equipped to assess my childs behavior more than a typical teacher in a classroom setting 🤷‍♀️

  • @capturinglifeinprogress1999

I'm going through a similar thing with our daughter. The doctor keeps saying nothing is wrong, and since she's not going to school, he said we don't have a teacher's opinion of her. That made me really mad. After a long time he said I could pursue a diagnosis and gave me some numbers to call, but didn't send out a request for evaluation. I'm lost at what to do. Do you mind if I message you?

Oh wow, I am so sorry you are feeling gaslit by your doctor. Been there and it sucks. I highly recommend finding a PCP who specializes in neurodiversity, or at least someone who is open enough to sending a referral. Feel free to message me anytime on FB or IG. 😊

May I ask that u protect your children’s privacy. It’s all good if u expose the world that you have a medical condition but your children can’t vote about their own medical conditions being exposed🤦🏾‍♀️love ur channel tho this is coming from a place of love and not hate.

I appreciate your concern. I have thought long and hard about how much of our lives to share on my channel, there are many things I do indeed keep private. I only choose to share the things that I think would be helpful to other people in similar situations. I have an ongoing dialogue with my kids about what I do and do not film, and they are aware that lots of people could be seeing our videos. I always respect their wishes when they ask me not to film. I talked with my daughter about this video in particular and she told me specifically what she is and is not comfortable with me sharing, and I respected that. So I view this as a dynamic issue that I will continue to discuss with my kids as they get older. I do not think it is an all or nothing issue when it comes to putting kids on the internet. This is a digital world we live in and I think it is so important to model how to navigate it respectfully and responsibly from the beginning. ☺️
