@Ironbanner12 I know that. But the arm became useless and dead after he turned human again so I think the same goes for the immortality he gained due to being a demon.
Technically he went back to the exact form he was at before the transformation. He just had a dead demon arm instead of a missing normal one.

The main issue with the demon slayer mark is that the human body is just not meant to operate at the level a demon slayer mark allows it to. It is like running your car at max speed for a long time. Either you run out of fuel very quickly or something breaks.
Tsukiguni Yoriichi was the exception to the rule in that he was born with the mark so his body was able to adapt to it so that it didn't kill him. Every other demon slayer did not have that luxury.

@@nnamdi5611 It is mentioned in the background source books. The mark, if used excessively, causes the demon slayer's internal organs to start to degrade as the body's temperature, when it is used, is raised above the 37 degrees Celsius that it normally operates at.
Your body is meant to work most optimally at 37 degrees, it is why you feel like crap when you have fever and your body temperature is raised beyond its normal tolerances or when you have the chills due to your body temperature being lowered beyond its tolerances.
The more often a marked demon slayer uses their mark, the more damage it does to their body and that damage starts to accumulate if they do not give themselves adequate time to rest and recover. It is a bit like the Mangekyo Sharringan in Naruto in that, whilst it granted an Uchiha great power, excessive use damaged the eyes and optic nerves causing premature blindness.
Unfortunately for the marked demon slayers they did not have the opportunity to rest very often, especially during the Sengoku era, as they would be the ones sent on missions the most and these would often be the most dangerous missions.
The cumulative toll on their body meant that they died as a result. often before the age of 25 or thereabouts.
Here is the thing, Muzan knew this. It is how he managed to convince Tsukiguni Michikatsu, who was the Moon Hashira and had a demon slayer mark, to accept his blood and become the demon known as Kokushibo.
Tanjiro father had the mark too and he borned with it. I think him canceling his fighting spirit helped to live pass 25 as well but he was very weak and frail but immensely strong as well.

It declined because there was no other reported sun breather with the mark. The prerequisite for other slayers to achieve the mark was that there existed a sunbreather who activated his mark as well. After yorrichi there wasnt any sunbreather, hence no more slayers had marks.
Aaand activating the demon slayer mark also required a sun breather to resonate with. So until Tanjiro learned sun breathing, there was no catalyst for other Demon Slayers to awaken their mark.
I think yoriichi didn't discover the mark but rather he was born with it.

From my understanding the manga said the mark does not directly shorten your lifespan it’s the the demon slayers with it kept challenging more and more dangerous demons until they died I forget the exact panel that mentions it.
So they got too killey so they got killed themselves? Seems logical since demon hunting is dangerous.
That matches my understanding as well. Without spoiling, the others died of their injuries rather than because of the mark.
Rengoku went toe to toe with upper moon 3 without his demon slayer mark and was pretty close fight… imagine if he survived and got his mark… he’d probably be as strong as upper 1

Actually i think that the mark itself does not kill the slayers, but the conditions to generate it. So even if someone uses it but only 2 or 3 times then it will definitely weaken the heart but not so much that it might kill you. The Sengoku period was not so developed in medical theories so it might just be a justification that the mark is killing you rather than those slayers abusing and depending on the mark every time a tough fight comes.
Also that the prime time for when the heart is strongest and most vigorous is during our teenage years to 25 years of age. The heart cannot bear that kind of strain in later years and maybe that mark on yorrichi was proof of his abnormally mutated and strong heart so that he can have a life expectancy of more than 25 years.

There are few mysteries about the demon slayer mark :-
1. Sun Breathing users doesn't die in the age of 25 . Ex:- Yoriichi and all the ancestors of Tanjiro who created fainted mark on their forehead.
2. The curse only work on other breathing users, if they've got the permanent mark.
3. Giyu and Sanemi won't die in the age of 25 because their marks were temporary and it disappeared right after the battle. In case of Gyomei, he was already 25+ when he got the mark so he died right after the sunrise.
LoL sun breathing has nothing to do with DSM, yourichi is the only one who didnt die Bcoz he was born with it…his ancestors were born with Mark, but it wasnt demon slayer mark, its just birthmark thats it, as Well as black/red hair and red eyes…noone was born with DMS since yoruichi…

Giyu and Sanemi were younger than 24 by the end of the anime... right? So we never see them 'die' from it anyways. Only one that may have was Gyomei who was 27 and likely his activating it during the final battle hastened up his death

There have only been 3 demon slayers who have surpassed the age limiter of the mark. Yoruichi, and for those who haven't read the comic, one pillar and one other slayer from Yoruichi's time. Only 3 other slayers are suggested to have surpassed the limiter, but no confirmation.

Imagine Tengen and Rengoku with the mark when they fought Gyutaro and Akaza. We saw Muichiro with Mark can withstand Gyokko's poison and it will likely apply to Tengen when he got poisoned by Gyutaro too

I feel like this would be a great part in the final season and have everyone turn against him then him turn against Muzan after he realizes everything has been taken from him (his teammates and sister dies by his hand) and then kills Muzan in the final episode

The demons slayer mark doesn't mean you die before the age of 25. It means if you use it to long you'll die.
Yoriichi being born with it negated the deadly cost because his body adjusted to it allowing him to live way way longer but yoriichi was also basically superhuman with the other stuff he could do

Imagine activating you’re Mark after the age of 25
It is not the mark that gives them an increased ability, it's just the by product of the process. Having that mark just means that they have reach a superhuman level. Their cardiovascular endurance increase so much making their body feels like burning and thus creating a mark on their skin. While they have reach a superhuman level, they're still human and bounded with limitations. Exploiting the increased abilities of this level eats out their life force hence why demon slayers with this mark didn't live past 25. It basically wears out every cell and tissue in their body.
Well except for Yorichi who was born a prodigy and have it since birth.
