- Hinokami Kagura and Sun breathing confuse a lot off new watchers. When I started watching the series, I was also confused by these two. So, is there a diffrence between Hinokami Kagura and Sun Breathing or both of these practices the same? Let's take a look.

It wasn't actually taught to anyone, Tanjiro's ancestor payed close attention "once" to Yorichi and made it a dance to continue his legacy down the line, since Yorichi didn't have any descendants.

perhaps, but wasn’t mouchiro kokushibo’s decendant? And since kokushibo could only learn moon breathing it didn’t really count as a bloodline of sun breathers, rather Yorichi was just Mouchirou’s great, great, great (many greats) uncle, and didn’t have his own bloodline.

And yeah, yorrichi had a black blade that he was able to turn into a red blade which manga readers know what it does.
Hinokami is modified, but I think it's important to say that it makes hinokami weaker, just like water, fire breathing, etc. yet hinokami is still stronger than them. Basically, hinokami kagura is an attempt to copy sun breathing, which results in new breathing form with a several mistakes and inaccuracies. (spoiler) Tanjiro then said that he understood all his mistakes by watching how Yoruichi moves through a Sumiyoshi's memories and completed Hinokami, essentially making it Sun Breathing

It’s actually the way tanjiros ancestor’s perceived his combat style. It is said that when they watched him it was extremely beautiful almost like a dance and ever since then that’s what it was perceived as. A beautiful dance passed down to remember Yorichi but in actuality it’s the sun breathing combat style.

It’s really sweet that the Kamado family (specifically Sumiyoshi) passed down the dance in order to ensure Yorichii had a legacy (since his wife and only daughter are dead). They maintained Yorichii’s traditions alive, they’re the closest people he has to direct ancestors in that regard.

Hinokami Kagura is the final form of sun breathing. Revealed during the final arc Tanjiro realized the purpose behind it (Being that the hinokami kagura was the combination of the previous forms of sun breathing) that it perfectly attacks all of muzan’s brains and hearts.

With how in depth the author is, i wouldn't be surprised if the ritual actually would ward off demons like wisteria and if Tanjuro (dad) died ometime before the end of the year, he would have failed to do the dance and Tanjiro sort of jumping in to take care of everyone understandably wouldn't even think of it. Then Muzan while looking for the blue spider lilly / wanting a sun immune demon / wanting to kill any future sun breathers (black sword wielders dying before reaching potential. ) came across or heard of the kamado family in the new year. It did start out season 1 in winter after all. Not factual or even a theory, but just an interesting thought. Especially with the sight of Tanjiro; Muzan, Daki, and Hantengu all fear him in the depths of Muzan cells.
I just realised yoriichi was complaining at first cause none could use his breathing style and the Kama dos basically came alone and went ight bet
I guess it’s logical that there would be some inaccuracies in Tanjiro’s sun breathing technique, since things that get passed down throughout generations can be easily distorted or changed.
The 13th form of sun breathing, is actually basically Hinokami Kagura because you dance 12 different moves repeadtedly all day long, and thats quite basically the sun breathing 13th form, doing all 12 forms continuously and repeadtedly, which was created to kill Muzan dedicatedly
you forgot 1 crucial detail. You must execute the forms faster and faster after each loop.
It wasn't taught actually. It's just that while Sumiyoshi watched Yorichi doing it, he memorized it and made it into a dance. So that, it could be easier to pass on.

Hinokami Kagura and Sun Breathing are nearly identical in their practices, and because Tanjiro had it passed down as a dance, he refers to it as Hinokami Kagura. However, in an inherited memory from Sumiyoshi he receives directly before fighting Muzan, he sees Yoriichi teaching Sumiyoshi the style, and realizes that the Hinokami Kagura has many useless movements and angles in its performance. After waking up, Tanjiro corrects these useless movements, and actually refers to the style as Sun Breathing for the rest of the fight.
Tanjiro said that it's amazing how his family has able to pass down the sun breathing accurately for how many generations. It's also amazing how the kamado family has able to learn the breathing while kokushibo can't

Well, it was first performed by Sumiko, and she was a girl. As a child, she was fascinated by Yoriichi's style, when she saw him perform sun breathing, so she tried imitating and it became hinokami kagura.
It’s almost Sun Breathing, and i wouldn’t say it’s a modified version. The reason it’s different is Yoriichi did not actually TEACH it to Sumiyoshi, he just performed it for him and Sumiyoshi remembered the forms by watching him and promised him he’d pass it down to his descendants to keep it alive. Yoriichi did not ask him to do so. As such, since the moves were learned by watching and passed down as a dance, there was a bunch of in proper footwork and wrist placements which made the Hinokami Kagura forms weaker and less effective than actual Sun Breathing. Tanjiro is able to learn this when he sees the inherited memory of Yoriichi performing the forms for Sumiyoshi himself and sees the proper way to do them. After this the manga makes it a point to change from saying DANCE OF THE FIRE GOD(Hinokami Kagura) to BREATH OF THE SUN when Tanjiro uses it.
Seems a lot of Powerful Slayers of Sengoku era wasn't able to learn it so the modified it into what they were able to do but a Completely Random GUY FROM A VILLAGE WHO DIDN'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO FIGHT WAS ABLE LEARN IT LIKE HOW!?!?

Hinokami kagura is basically a version of sun breathing the strongest breathing form and kokushibo's moon breathing is also really strong since it was made after sun breathing. so which is the strongest between moon breathing and hinokami kagura?
Hinokami because it actually replicated what Yoriichi did. For eg. Sun breathing slows down the regeneration of Demons and Hinokami literally does the same thing. Moon breathing was a variation of Sun breathing like all the others but it is a stronger version than the rest but it literally cannot replicate anything Yoriichi did.
By itself? Moon breathing since it's an actual sword martial art while hinokami kagura is just a dance
Sure, the sun breathing and hinokami share the same principle down it core but unless the dancer understands the core principles (like Tanjuro chopped a bear's head off) and understand anatomy, hinokami kagura is just a dance, a good dance for health benefits but a dance no less

Also remember kokushibo’s breathing form was not as Broken when he was a human because there was no BDA to enhance it. Moon breathing is still broken, but comparatively its worse than hinokami.
What I will say tho is that kokushibou himself is a more refined fighter even as a human likely.
Not to mention that practicing Hinokami Kagura made the Kamado bloodline a natural practinioner of the see-through world and hashira level breathing practices like Total Concentration as Tanjuro (and most likely his father and his ancestors knowing about it as well) is the one who introduced its concept back when Tanjiro was a child before he fully understood it during his residence in the Butterfly Mansion.
Sumiyoshi asked to see the moves and yoriichi performed them. Sumiyoshi then immortalized it as a dance. It's also worth noting that the reason no one know sun breathing other than this family and the man who made it, was because no one was strong enough to to use it. All the other styles are derived from sun because only yoriichi could do sun

Compass needle being a core principle of that martial art. With his demon strength and longevity, he pushed it to the point it look like he was using a demon art

Actually the hinokami gagura is a way of showing gratitude to Yoirichi who saved Sumiyoshi and his family.
Fun fact: the dance is started when the sun goes down and last until it comes back up. It is extremely exhausting but allows one to fight a demon and last all night

Now it makes sense that the fire God they are referring to is Yoriichi. Sumiyoshi captured the breathing styles in a dance form and it is dedicated to Yoriichi
We couldve had a while back story and plot building but ultimately it just ends without us ever being really attached to the characters... 😢 I hope there be a reboot or a remake coz there is so much potential.

I think of it like how all breathing forms are descendants of sun breathing so is HK its just the closest thing as it hasnt been changed around with each new user, so its the closest thing that currently exists to sun breathing while not being the breathing form itself
It would be good and easy to understand if all the hashira during sengoku period have the IQ like Sumiyoshi who made the Sun Breathing Techniques as a dance form. So, they could learn it faster and can kill demon everytime.

As far as i can think, hinokami kagura was a reduced form of sun breathing to an easy to follow technique adding some unnecessary moves to transition between forms thereby reducing the efficiency with which yoriichi performs sun breathing. Hinokami kagura can be thought of as a summary to sun breathing.
Tanjiro has flashbacks of Yoriichi performing sun breathing and he realizes that the Hinokami kagara uses to many unnecessary movements and actions.

i think hinokame kagura is a breathing style that is a pre requisite for sun breathing and it is possible to gain hinokame kagura by a person that is able to all major breathing styles. if its purpose is to ward of deseases than tanjiro's dad should not have one. tanjiro's father might have used it to pass on the lineage to nezuko and tanjiro. it is possible that the reason why nezuko is not comepletely a demon is because of the demon ward effect itself.
