  • In this talk, Sasha covers how when we are vulnerable in sharing our professional (and personal) failures, we become more resilient. We allow ourselves to learn from our mistakes, we open diversity in solutions by talking to others, we avoid failure blindness, and we release self-shame. She discusses how perfectionism leads to burnout, through our inability to accept that failure is part of growth. This talk will encourage resilience and inspire the audience to see failure as a path to resilience. Sasha K. Shillcutt, MD, MS, FASE is a tenured Associate Professor and the Vice Chair of Strategy and Innovation in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). Sasha is a board-certified anesthesiologist, is a testamur in the Special Competence in Adult Echocardiography (ASCeXAM), and has certification in advanced perioperative echocardiography (Advanced PTEeXAM) through the National Board of Echocardiography.
Sasha is a wife, mother, physician, clinical scientist, national educator, writer, and speaker. In 2016, Sasha was awarded the national American Medical Association's "Women Physician‚ Inspiring Physician Award" by her peers.
Sasha’s greatest passion is empowering and encouraging others to achieve wellbeing in their professional and personal lives. Sasha speaks frequently to health care executives and physicians on the topics of professional burnout, resilience and gender equity. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Love this Dr Shillcutt. Resilience is all about letting go, resetting and moving on. We pause, reflect, learn and then move forward.

More in things I needed to hear. For years and years I’ve tried to run from my vulnerability Bc of ptsd I’ve suffered due to trauma status post familial abuse. It affected me and I fell and fell hard to point of going numb in medical school and I continued to suffer. Finally forced into a therapists office. Your post hits home Bc I’m finally finding all those vulnerabilities coming to the surface.

This is a well-done piece. A book I read with comparable themes had a significant impact on my life. "Rising From Within: Unlocking Your Innate Power to Conquer Adversity" by Vincent Starling
