- I read on a Steam review that this game was a whole lot better with French audio and that would actually make a whole lot of sense since this game is set during the French Revolution, so I thought while the Steam sale is still up, I might as well snag this game for it's deal and make a walkthrough of it.

I speak French, and I usually play most of AC in English. But this game... this game was different. I had to play it in French.
I don't speak French, but the game is sooo much better in French. I wish all the AC games would do this (allowed the spoken language of the setting)... I love it. It's why I'm excited to play Ghost of Tsushima in Japanese.
And just feeling the same about Ghost of Tsushima... However Taka's voice actor in Japanese sounds a bit off. Just like the difference between Sub Goku and Dub Goku in DBZ. Dub is sometimes better than Sub.
Thanks for making me decide in what language should I play it since i'm still learning french. I'll try with subtitles and French DUB

I'm American but I played this with French audio cuz giving French folk British accents seemed nonsense, especially within the context of the series. Like arguably the best game had everyone speaking with Italian accents but French ones seemed too silly, I guess.
There's even one mission where someone comments on Napoleon's Corsican accent while we just hear posh English. Stupid.
And characters literally mispronounce “guillotine”

I agree it doesn't fit the scenario to play it in English, but my French isn't great and I didn't want to read the subtitles so it didn't seem out of place to me
That they gave us the choice was the important thing, as much as I'd love to play every AC game in the right language with everything pronounced correctly 🙂
Finally I can be immersed in this game
I played AC Unity solely in French... The lack of accents made it bland. French audio, all the way.
Ac Unity deserves to be played in French, just like Ac II and Brotherhood deserve to be played in Italian
at least ac2 and brotherhood had italian accents instead of british
@@ricardonoir3947 they were ridiculous to a native speaker though. Not in a "inaccurate" way, in a "wtf if there's any country with that accent, it must be on the other side of the world, because we got nothing to do with it"

@@Artyom-x8tmy only gripe with Ezio in Italian dub was that he sounds like a kid even towards the end of Brotherhood. A different actor voiced him in Revalations.
At least his English VA aged his voiced as the story progressed but I can't play AC2 and Brotherhood in English.
does anyone else see similarities between ezio and arno? their hairstyle, their "I just wanna have fun" vibe at the start of the games, and both their parents saying something like "you should find another hobby/outlet"
Yeah Ubisoft received heavy criticism that their protagonists after AC revelations were boring and a lot of fans wanted Ezio back so they kind of made Arno like him I guess

@@beredaye I agree. I loved Black Flag but I am just saying what I had read back in 2014 before Unity's release about how fans wanted a protagonist who was Ezio-like

Arno *is* very similar to Ezio, and that’s no surprise considering most fans just wanted more Ezio-like protags. Arno just had a far poorer writing staff behind him that failed to maintain his lively characteristics and failed to wrap up his opening plot hook. (Also didn’t have 3 games like his Italian predecessor.)
In one manner, I wish they did keep playing that archetype out to see how long it’d last before burnout/saturation, but on the other hand, i am glad they tried more serious protags like Connor bc it helps contrast the characters from one another.
A personal thing I also appreciated about the choice of characters like Connor is that they’re portrayed more realistically. Not everyone is going to be a rich, playboy who is good at everything, liked by all his friends, rebounds from personal issues with a smile, and proverbially rides off into the sunset at their death.
All AC games should have an option were you could play it in "native language mode" or something. Would improve the immersion, and it would be educational for Americans and Brits to experience that a vast majority of historical figures actually didn't speak English.

Exactly, I was disappointed that there wasn't Greek or Icelandic for AC Odyssey and AC Valhalla respectively. I mean if Ubisoft makes an Assassin's Creed game in WWII in German and no German dub, I'm done with the franchise
it's cool in French plus he speaks in period sustained laguage for the immersion

@@vladislavgritsenko3636 I mentioned Icelandic since it's the closest to Old Norse compardd to other Nordic Languages
They did feature the Mohawk language in AC3, which is in my opinion the most sincere entry in the series, that gives the least fucks about how the audience thinks or pandering. I think it's not a coincidence that later entries all moved further and further away from a true portrayal of history and more about making anglophone speakers happy playing their fantasy version of 'history'.

Even during Medieval eras, even if Latin was the administrative and religious language of Christian Europe, you could hear "Langues d'Oïl" spoken almost everywhere, since the French medieval speaking world established themselves from England until the Crusader States. Whether the Angevins, Normans, Francilians, Burgundians, Picards, Poitevins, or the Franks in general, etc...
why did they not use french accent in english?? it sounds like a bunch of brits in France. makes no sense at all

The developers stated the French accent would make it hard for gamers to understand what the character are saying despite the fact they used French accents in Liberation and Freedom Cry (thickest). Now we have NPCs that speak in British cockney...the most obviously non-French accent I can think of next to Deep South southern twang.

The irony is that ubisoft is a French company. Sadly they thought "hey if le mesirables did it, why can't we?" And decided to hire VA's from the other side of the water.

Yep. And the reason in ac2 everyone had accents and would speak a little bit of Italian here and there was because of a glitch.
What's weird about unity though it's why it translates their English with a British accent 😂

You can't, that's the negative aspect of it. Otherwise I also would like to play with French audio.
@@letho8323 for short sentence yes, but for longer conversation that you want overhear, usually it's still in English.
Wow, I’ve never seen an assassin so endearing & charismatic in such a Frenchy-way 🤣. Very different energy and world compared to Connor’s during the same timeline.

Dude there should be a video were you are a actual Knights Templar(Not from Assassin’s Creed) with the graphics of this game set before or after the Templars being betrayed ✝️
For real 😂. Irl the Templars have nothing to do with how they are portrayed in the games lol. In real life, they officially disbanded due to the betrayal by Philip IV of France in 1312 and they should not be present in periods thereafter like with Ezio.

Tbh, i prefer playing in english dub more, because you feel like french has no soul, the VA has no carizma on the contrary the englsih VA has more carizma feel like real assassino despite the accent is british but come on its english dub, i know as usual ubisoft but the mixed english accent in all ac games but its just optional i don't think it makes that much difference,
But each to thier own, you can feel american has no soul and french is better.

The French bits are actually pronounced very well. The fact that they at least use some French and speak it competently is the only thing that doesn't make me angry at the British accents. The English VA is from Montréal though, so it makes sense that he knows how to speak the language.
French dub is much better in this game.
