- The Honda S2000 is one of my all time favourites. In fact, I think it is so good it might actually be the best roadster ever made.
In this video, I explain why.

I have driven a S2K AP1 for the past 12 years. I have tried other cars and I can easily afford a new sports car. However, I have absolutely no interest in making a change. I'm betting a lot of S2K owners feel the same way. It's outstanding performance and unmatched driving pleasure make it the iconic car it is. thanks
agreed. what can replace it?
I agree with you. I do have a 2006 ap1 S000 and a 997.1 GT3. I drive and enjoy more my S2000. Of course it is not the more powerfull, but as far as fun and balance are considered, it is the best car I've ever had and driven. For my use on mountain roads, I don't need more, neither less. It is just a perfect weapon for the money.
@@laurentthiancourt8779 I'm fortunate to also live near mountains and lets face it that's where the S2K really shines.
@@Mr.SlipperyX That's thing. The Honda S2K is totally unique. There never has or will be anything like it.
@@creightonsmith5333 After 10 years with mine, 100,000+miles, track days to snow days. I haven't found anything that's as dependable and durable, driven just about everything. closest second place is the nd miata, everything else is using speed to mask weight, dynamics to mask skill. s2000 is pure
Love my '07 S2K. It's an amazing automobile that puts a smile on my face every time I drive it, and the point about reliability is spot-on (my son has put over 200,000 miles on his). Shigeru Uehara is a genius.
Grab one now because these are flying up in price
I have a modified R32 GTR making over 650 WHP, and I drive my 2003 AP1 and feel as much fun as the GTR. The car is super fun to drive and super reliable. I have 207, 000 miles on it and drives exactly like new. Motor still super strong, just regular maintenance and not eve one oil leak.
Yes, that's what is so cool about them. The are fun but will last as long as a Civic
@@theosautos2329 208K on mine and is still running perfect.
same here man. I have a modified upgraded turbo R33 GTR and an AP1 S2000 with minimum mods like Ohlin coilvers, exhaust, intake, sticky tires and upgraded wheels, and the S2000 is more fun to drive in my opinion.
No drivers aids. “Yes please”. Love my AP1. Screams and revs to the moon with the most precise shifting ever.
I have a stock 2005 S2000, I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of it. I never get bored of it.
Enjoyed the video, thank you!
Again, I visualising one more time you video, congratulation Theo
I have a GPW Ap1 and still enjoy driving it for over 6 years of ownership🤙🏾🙌🏾
These are becoming the new favorite to many collectors. Sweet!!!
I had owned AP2 for almost 10 years and I can say that it is the most fun, exciting, reliable, and stylish car I have ever owned and will own. I also had DC2 GS-R for few years and I would say DC2 is very close second but nothing will top my old AP2 unless it is nothing other than AP1.
I loved this video, you showed off all of the perks of the S2000 so well!
I've had my AP1 in New Formula Red since 2007. I now own a few other vehicles, including a Lamborghini Huracan pictured left.... It's amazing how easy the S2000 is to drive vs. the Huracan. With the Huracan you really need to be on your game. Anyone can drive the S2000 and have fun. I've held onto mine for 15 years, and I intend to keep it. I just swapped the "18 O.Z. Superleggera and Pirelli PZero wheels off it last weekend for the stock "16 and all seasons. As soon as it gets too cold to drive the Lambo I'll drive the S2000 until it's time to get in the RAM 3500 dually for winter. I'm looking forward to driving it.
Great pair! I would say the S2000 is easy if you know what you are doing. If you put someone who doesn't know much about driving behind the wheel and ask them to drive it fast they will definitely bin it. I think easy to drive cars are new hot hatchbacks that are front or AWD and therefore much more forgiving
@@theosautos2329 I let my 17 year old daughter drive it as a daily for several months while her Mini was getting fixed. My wife has driven it as a daily in the past as well. No issues.....
After 22 years...it's a fantastic car..
It sure is!
Wow has it really been that long? 😳
GREAT VIDEO!!! The drone shots are magnificent!! Bought a Silverstone 2004 S-2000 from the original owner in 2012. It came with the factory hardtop. Absolutely LOVE driving it. Yeah, it’s a keeper that spends most the time in the garage with 98,000 miles on it. My daily driver is a 2013 Blue Ray Metallic Camaro.
Both are very cool cars!
Nice video man!
Thank you!
I have an AP2. It's not perfect but it delivers some thrills that are impossible to get from other cars. I always crack up at how new passengers freak out at taking corners 25-30mph because it feels so much faster than it is.
With only 63.000 km on my '00 stock I think it will outlive me.
car from 1999 , timeless design
I agree with you. Best roadster hands down. They sure don't make them like they used to and that goes for Honda as well. If Honda tries bringing the s2k back it might be an EV due to all the emission regulations they keep adding to supposedly save the environment, but we should all know that digging up lithium to make batteries isn't any better. As the saying goes though, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
great video man! totally agree!
Thank you!
I can totally aggree. Im driving an -02 berlina black with red seats and RHD as a daily. I have H&R coilovers, wheels, tires , custom 2.5" exhaust and HKS RSK intake and semi trackday brake pads and slotted and dimpled rotors. I redid the top too. Its raw and engaging. Im just looking for a daily to be able to get some rust issues sorted out at the rear fenders and new paint overall and im golden. Nicest car i have ever owned.
I would love an S2000, the only thing that really holds me back is the Snap oversteer.... Maybe I should save up for an R34 GTT
Nice vidéo, I have an AP1 Phase 2 stock from 2005 (2 Liters, cable throttle, only ABS...) and this is the Real Visceral Driving Machine
Yes, they are great cars
Everything about the S2000 screams in your face and tells you that you're not looking at some dinky car made to commute to and from your destination. When you sit inside, you become one with the car and the road; an experience unlike any other production car for sure. Driving this thing puts you at peace; you become one with the machine and the road, and every little thing you do gives you a form of response be it small or surprisingly large. This car SPEAKS to you and is equally happy being gently or harshly driven. Some may say the S2K is overrated and not all that it seems, but to each their own. I love the S2K, and when I finally get one, I will never let anyone or thing take it away from me, ESPECIALLY in this age where SUVs and boring electric vehicles are taking over.
The Honda S2000 ROCKS
True!
I'm so close to own one, fingers crossed
I pretty much agree with this video's conclusion, the S2K does what it does really well. But it also has it's flaws: lack of steering feedback from the EPS, severe lack of torque (although that's somewhat mitigated in the F22C models) and it's relatively heavy for what it is. But other than that? Perfect sportscar.
The steering feel can be improved with stiffer bushing and a more rigid steering wheel (OEM wheels arent nearly as stiff as a good aftermarket one). Also, the heavier weight is due to an extremely rigid chassis for a convertible. Ill take an extra 100lbs or so for markedly improve chassis rigidity.
@@DraegerV1It's true that you can improve the feel alot, also by adding caster and wider front tires. But still, it will be numb compared to a proper hydraulic rack.
As for rigidity, it's stiff for a convertible of that era but that's it. Not apples to apples but for reference, a NC Miata is torsionally stiffer while being much lighter! I personally feel like the heavy use of steel contributed alot to the weight of the S2K. Not to shit on the S2K chassis though, it's still decent by modern standards.
Dam I love the s2k
the F series motors don't scream Vtec like the K's, but rather they Sing Vetc.
Which would you guys say pick up and Why im buying one soon Ap1 or Ap2 it's going be my 1st S2k dreaming of one for couple months now and grinding every day 2 buy one in 2023
I would say ap2. The ap1 can have transmission issues, especially one with 80k+ miles
Yes. AP2. I have a 2004 and love it. The AP1s also suffered from the rear end sways in turns. AP2 corrected the issue.
@@billbrock85 ok Imma test drive both see which suits me
Ap1 is the original receipt. 140hp/l . Raw crazy driving machine. Ap2 is for pssies
@@justanothertroll9205 ap1 is for people who want to wrap around a tree
Great video!! You should join us 👍
Over engineered until you consider how much they cost now.
I paid 20k for mine and I 100% believe it is worth that price car a car approaching classic status it still feels like a new car
Have a look at how much Defenders cost. The S2000 is a bargain! 😂
For reference. '00 AP1 with 56.000km bought in 2020 in france for 26.000€
@@CaptainFalcon92 great price for such low mileage! You are lucky!
I see you can get a sticker that says "Nobody is perfect, but driving a Honda S2000 comes pretty damn close". Kind of says it all you guys.
Correction - 237hp. Not 247.
The JDM did have 247
Correction: AP2 is 237hp
Ap1 240hp and the Japanese and European and Australian models had 247hp..
Only the JDM had 247hp.I've tested both eudm and jdm.The jdm's beyond 8000rpms are way stronger than any f20-f22 engine. If you can find high quality high octane gas you won't believe the power of a stock daily 4banger with only 2lit.Healthy jdm f20 with fbo's and 103-104ron gas(we're in Europe) hit 265++ on the dyno(crank power)
Sure is funny how Honda can make really good engaging cars when they make them rwd 😂
I think you forgot to mention about the torque though😬
Why you worry about torque mate?Do you intend to pull a boat or somethin" with an s2000?A race engine needs horsepower and high-revving,if you want torque for some reason go get a diesel one dude......
@@johnlountzis6678 even Honda themselves lowered the 9k redline and gave the ap2 a higher displacement for a reason 🫢
@@charvlim5159The only reason that honda gave the 2.2 lit engine with the 8300rpm rev limiter was just to make it more friendly and easier to drive. There are many fans who love the car but they don't have the driving skills to drive fast the hardcore ap1.So they made it easier for the average driver. It's not only the engine(2.2) that it's easier to drive, the ap2 has more "friendly" steering rack,is less stiffer than ap1,has bigger wheels with wider tires so more traction generally it's a more friendly car than ap1.
@@johnlountzis6678Ever see a F1 car leave the pits. Dump the clutch @ 3,500 rpm and keep the rpm near the redline and voila low torque is a issue no more.
no mate, is not the best roadster ever made. IS THE BEST CAR EVER MADE!
Not the best at all...but good cars
As a concept it’s the best. Nothing replaced it after 20 years
@@flavaj12 yeah, not even the new mx-5. I also recently saw a video here, comparing the S2K and the 2022 BRZ on the track, (same 4bangers and engine displacement) and finally something comes close to the S2K after 20years, and only because newer cars like Subaru BRZ and Miata have better handling technologies.
@@derekdiez5494 key words “comes close”
Name a better roadster?
@@derekdiez5494 it’s a shame really because we have the technology to make it better etc.
Way overrated and overhyped thanks to such reviews. Beyond stupidity and common sense. Does not justify the price point it is selling now.
Only 66,000 manufactured worldwide. THAT’S the selling point. How many are still around? My guess is 45,000. SUPPLY and demand. You don’t see them on the road anymore.
It's all personal preference mate
“Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder” you might think they are over rated and over hyped but they are truly special cars. You won’t find anything like it it todays cars, from the styling to the n/a engine.
Frank,my friend i bet you've never drove an s2000.It'a pure sports car,it feels like a bigger racing kart. You can't get that pure feeling with anything close to this price.I have many friends with very expensive sport cars such as M3's,M4's or Cayman's,911's etc and they admit that the pure feeling(IF YOU CAN DRIVE) of an S2000 is hard to beat!
@@johnlountzis6678 Couldn’t agree more, John. You slide behind the wheel and feel as if you’re part of the car! I’ll never sell it because I know how much I would miss it. My other car is a 2013 Camaro, so my S-2000 NEVER sets foot in snow!! : )
This car wasn’t shown enough.
