I could watch filing all day! These videos are so helpful. Filing may seem so easy and basic but it's actually one of the most difficult things for me personally and where I spend way too much time. Learning the zones and how to manage each one is definitely the key to success!

@@darlaundiks3788 It's been a year since I wrote that comment, and filing is STILL an area that I struggle with! I've definitely improved, but still have a ways to go. It's filing to shape that is so difficult for me. I think it's hardest on my own nails because several of mine grow so crooked, and it really messes up my perception of the nail itself. I keep waiting for the day it just comes to me LOL!

I finally properly used these techniques on myself... actually broke it down and made sure to do each step... and my nails have never looked better!! Breaking it down really does help keep nice consistent filing and shaping... my nails were so wonky before! This was so helpful, thank u! Question, when polishing natural nails with gel polish can I use protein bond and skip the base coat? Will protein bond prevent gel polish streaks when polishing the nail?
Great question!
you can use protein bond when applying gel polish to the natural nail. If you soak off, we recommend only applying it to the tip. If you use an e-file to remove then you can use it over the whole nail. I would still use a base coat though, unless the gel polish doesn't require it like our go time gel polish.
Just started doing my own acrylic nails, as well as my daughter's, and your videos have been so helpful ☺ thank you for taking the time to create these! I have found that it is much easier working on my daughter using the filing tips and tricks you provide. However, i am really struggling to file my own 😢 I cant seem to find the right angles to hold my file. I am struggling with both the hand file and the e-file. Do you have any suggestions, tips, or tricks for working on your own nails?

Hi can this filing technique work of the application was used with a nail tip and not sculpted?
To buff the nail what file do I use? 100? Thank you
Would you follow this same method for natural nails with acrylic? Or just natural nails after a manicure? ( not with the drill of course)❤
If you are working on a natural nail with acrylic overlay, you would still follow the same procedure, you just may not need to file the lower arch since the nail itself will not be hanging down.
For a natural nail manicure with no enhancement, all you would need to file is shaping the free edge.

Can we get a vid on avoiding injury from filing? I have a death grip and I find I fight my clients and my thumb muscle on my control hand is getting injured. I know of a tech who had this pain and ignored it and now she can no longer even hold a can of coke. It’s stuck half open and I’m scared that’s gunna be me!

Is it false when they say do not buff nail because it makes it too smooth and you have troubles applying gel polish ?
Nope! That's true, gel does not like a smooth surface. we like to use a medium grit file to prep the nail , 100-150.

So I prepped my file the same way you did and it’s still cutting me😅 am I missing something
Make sure you don't just run your prep file flat over the edge. Make sure to catch the corners of the file as well. After prepping the file, gently run your finger across the edge to see if you still feel any sharp edges. If you do, prep the surface again.
