Great video! You can also put a form under your nail before adhering the tip. That keeps the gel from touching your skin at the tip of your natural nail.

Omg!!!! I will always use the lazy girl method with full cover gel nails.. I donât want to play around with acrylic or poly gel ever again !!! So important to touch on the gel allergy!!!! I gave myself an allergy doing at home extensions and it was hellacious. So itchy and at one point my thumb had blisted all around my cuticle. Your video on HEMA taught me I needed to be careful and stop doing them until I learned more. I luckily have switched out some products and with better practice I do not have reactions anymore. It is not a joke!!! Thank you for the correct education!!! It really saved me!

Wow. I've been doing my nails at home since 2018 and I've never had such a reaction! The skin the side of my pointer finger used to get kinda bumpy, but not anymore.
Also, I don't be like removing my gel nails all the time. I try to do them as few times a month as I possibly can. So once or twice max. I've been using dual nail forms so they tend to last quite a while!
About C curves, many of us have flat nail beds. Mine are, apparently, quite flat. When techs would put tips on me or would pinch my acrylics, it would hurt for a couple of days. I wouldnât say any of the full coverage tips I used are flat by any means, however, I can put enough gel between my nail and the tips to build up my nail bed. Itâs a total game changer for me, and I no longer have to worry about jerk techs who donât listen to me and make my nail beds hurt badly for days at a time.
Do you put a few layers of builder on your nails by themselves and build up the curve before applying the tip? I have super flat nail beds and am learning how to do overlay but using tips in the meantime to help with my skin picking and grow my nails a bit and I struggle finding any time that sits well because of the flatness :(

I've seen people put no wipe top underneath the full coverage tips so it doesn't get dirty over time
Liz does the same at the end of the video but probably if you're very active with your nails they tend to get dirty as well..?
I do this with mine - best thing to keep clean underneath!
Hmmm I use a gel base coat on the under side full cover tip so that i have extra stickiness lol I normally clean under my nails daily with alcohol pads anyway but this helps them lady a month
I wasn't planning on using full coverage tips but rather just start doing free forms, but I learned SO MUCH about nail tips from this video it's crazy. Thank you so much for your knowledge âĄ
This is a great video. I've been doing builder gel overlays for about a year and wanted to venture off with full cover tips to play around with clear tip designs. I've done full cover tips twice now and have been really bothered by the cuticle transition. I have a gap where my hair gets caught at the cuticle line and when I add my builder gel on top its way too bulky so I end up over filing the builder gel and eventually find my full cover tip edge that isn't seemless. This "hack" you just showed where you place it slightly up the nail plate so encapsulation makes a seemless transition is GENIUS! I will definatly need to try this next time!!

I used the gelips when they first came out for my non dominant hand but it was kinda complicated to hold the tip and cure. I did get the mini cake lamp today in the mail and I loved it way more than I thought I would. It made gel on toes really easy. I use my old boxes of gelips for nail art displays now. Even tho it still takes me forever I still perfer to sculpt all my nails.
I learned a lot as usual with u. U had solutions to all my problems with full cover tips. I didnât like the free edge look at the end with the top coat but someone else mightâve. Ur amazing! đ
Pre etched full cover tips are such a fabulous idea. Every full cover tip should be made that way for the consumer.

I like your tip of applying the tip a little away from the cuticle and applying gel base coat to get rid of the pesky little lip. That is the only downside of these extensions in my opinion. Now youâve just solved it. Thank you!

I do this type of extensions at my salon. I honestly donât like it đ€ Itâs really nice that I can do a nail extension service REALLY quick tho. But as Liz mentioned I donât like how the gel sips out under the nail and soaking off products are not my gem. Moreover I saw so many newly graduated nail techs only do this type of extensions and never learn acrylics or hard gel nail sculpture! I truly feel they should learn how to do them. Then they will know all the nail shape and nail fundamentals more seriously. đ© As always great video!
probably bad application tbh i do it myself and it never sips from underside and i use no wipe gel under to prevent getting dirty after awhile it really works well just depends on application
I know these have been around a while but I don't care who manufactured the full cover tips, they are in my opinion, not something I would offer as a professional licensed tech in the salon. Sure as a press on sale item but as a service, they aren't professional quality services. They are more of a do it at home nail and I think they should stay that way, at the home. Anyone can apply press on nails. Be it with glue, gel, polygel, acrylic, there is absolutely no skill required and I have skill I refuse to waste.
These type of nails are also very easy to come off, therefore, lifts quite easily as well, as I've find after we did test sets at our salon.

I am so glad you made this video! I used the full cover tips (not Kokoist)for the first time a few days ago on my daughters for Halloween nails because I was short on time and wanted to focus more on the nail art. I was so frustrated putting those things on because I had the issues with the gel coming out past the natural nail and the gap between the natural/fake nails when I did get the gel flush so it's nice to know that's normal and I wasn't doing anything wrong. And let me tell you I would've killed for that lamp holder! I tried the egg shaped lamp with the cutout to slide the finger in but that seemed to be better suited for doing your own nails. So I ended up just having my daughter hold the little light over the nail to flash cure it as soon as I had it positioned. And I was really inspected the nail tips trying to figure out why they were calling them gel lol! So thank you for explaining that also. I think those kits are great for a short-term set or when you're in a pinch but as long as I'm able I definitely prefer to just sculpt the nails myself. Thanks for another great video!

You need to try the Apres sculpted tips if you want a high apex and strong c curve. Thatâs the only system I use because of there tips.
I agree that Apres makes the best tips. Even though my nails are flat, the sculpted look so beautiful and just like I got a full set in the salon and stay on very well. Theyâre so much stronger than the Kiara Sky tips I tried.

Thank you for mentioning that if you do a coat of base gel, not only does it increase adhesion and fill space, it allows for the odd bubble that can happen when applying these on yourself. You cannot get fungus when your natural nail is completely covered by cured product. People obsess about bubbles for this type of enhancement for that reason, but it's easily solved, as you've demonstrated here.

I been using full coverage Kierasky for bit over a year now and I love them, they last so long and I can fill them without problems. I find it helpful to carefully file out the under nail if product comes out and top coat the inside.
How do you fill in?
I found that using these full coverage tips allows me to do my nails very quickly without sculpting. Traditional tips are made of ABS while gel tips are made of resin. There are slight differences between the two and their application.

I think the "gel tips" name is just a marketing strategy like the "healthy dip nails" or "vitamin-infused". đ
Exactly. It feels dishonest to say âgel tips and vitamins infusedâ. It makes me super uncomfortable.
I donât agree with what she said. Saying that theyâre all the same is such an ignorant thing to say. Obviously theyâre both plastic, but plastics have different chemical compositions and physical properties. The âgelâ tips melt off with acetone while the others donât. Press on nails are plastic too and they donât melt off with acetone. If you go by what sheâs saying then why canât we melt off other plastic things in our household with acetone? Like fans, tvs, phone cases, etc. because not all plastic is the same, thatâs why. She literally said theyâre all the same kind of plastic which is not correct. They fall under the same umbrella but the compositions are different. This is also why plastics when you buy food have different numbers to say what kind they are and see which ones are recyclable because not all of them are even though yes, theyâre all plastic
@@Lucky9436 the abs tips melts of in acetone. Similarly how the gel tips does.
@@nikholelucas7159 yes ABS tips can soak off with acetone, but they take a whole lot longer than "gel tips". Personally I use both ABS tips and gel tips and I like them both but they do behave slightly differently during takedown.
@@ndawi-9947 I agree. My gel tips don't smell the same as my cheap plastic ones. Especially when using the e-file. Filing my apres doesn't give that same plastic scent and they last much longer and are in better shape after 2-3 weeks.

Edit :I used "INPING Gel full cover tips" which you can get half square and half Almond shape or other selection, they are pre etched and they have a nice C curve with 12 sizes on Amazon and are very affordable. I also got a clip on uv lamp from Amazon which has a plug with a long lead and has a little switch which is really easy (not stiff) to flick on & off & was very affordable also and are great for curing tips on. âïž

Great video Liz. As far as the lamp goes, I bought a phone holder from Amazon and a portable nail lamp. The phone holder holds the portable lamp so Iâm able the flash cure my nails no problem. Your right practice makes perfect and itâs important to know how to build a nail with a form however when it comes to working on my self theses are so much fasterđđđ€Łđ€Ł.

I've been wanting to see your take on these for a while now! Excellent tips and pointers as expected! I will definitely try that Kokoist base gel! Regarding how flat these can look, my favorite tips are the sculpted ones from Apres. Specifically, for the deep c curve and pinxhed tips. I am not a tech and only apply these on myself. It's not as simple as it looks and takes some practice. Personally, I'd never go to the salon to have these done! I'd want sculpted acrylics or hard gel. You're my fav too Liz! Also, using the Kokoist base gel, you didn't need to buff off the shine from the natural nail! One of the differences when using a Japanese gel! I know the ingredients are superior in Japanese Gels compared to the regular gels used out there. Will you go over that please? I feel like it'd be less damaging to use since you don't need to buff the nail! â„ïž
Another great video. One question. I recently tried (twice now) doing my own âpress onâ nails at home. The nails fit perfectly before I paint them but it seems that once I cure them the nails shrink and donât fit properly, especially along the side walls. Iâve been painting them off my nail. Do you think that if I adhere them first, and then paint It will help? Iâm using adhesive strips at this point, not gel or glue because Iâm still in testing mode. I wanted to paint off the nail because it gives me more leeway to do nail art easier.
Hey Liz, can you please do a video re: how do to repair a side crack discovered after the manicure is done? Is there a way to âkind ofâ fix it until the next fill? Itâs the kind of crack that gets worse when you wash your hair and the hair gets caught in it and continues to split across the nail.

Hi Liz, so I had to pause the video at the part where your talking about the full cover tips not having a C curve. I bought a Modelones Polygel kit and then bought some Modelones full cover coffin tips and they have a nice curve to them. Not a full C curve but but more like a soft C curve, if that makes sense. I've been using them for 3 months and really like them.

Yes! The lamp holder is super cool. I have a full sized lamp that the bottom plate comes off, so I flip my lamp upside down and it senses my hands when I flash cure. Then I flip it over to fully cure the whole hand.
Be careful with flipping your lamp as you don't want your eyes exposed to the light being emitted.
Ive found that with the gellips is still like to etch the inside. Ive tried without etching and found that they didnt last as long.
I'm experimenting with pre-etched full cover tips before I use on my clients but they're unreliable on plastic nails, regardless of prep (nothing sticks like it does to a real nail plate as you know!). I'm worried that the etching isn't as "roughed up" as I can achieve with my large ball bit, but I'd also like to save some time in my nail service. Do they work for you and if so, how long does a set last for your clients? I otherwise love this method, including leaving the gap at the cuticle and filling with gel for a very smooth transition, and use it as my primary extension service.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have used full cover nails for a few years and never thought to place the nail further back and fill space with gel. As my nails grow out, I always get hair strands caught in the base. This will be a huge game changer. Sooo excited to try it. đ

I'm considering trying full cover tips after having done acrylics and gels both with forms or just tips and my natural nails were just destroyed after removal. Thinking this might be easier to remove and less harmful to nail? Thoughts?

I use these after seeing them on your channel before. The only thing I donât like is the âshortâ is NOT short and I have to cut them and re-shape them and then the c-curve looks kind of wonky (I use almond-I think they have the best almond shape).
Iâve seen another person whoâs like certified in Kokoist products or whatever and she said that theyâre actually meant to be built on top of (I use Jimmy Gel) and also Kokoist says you can backfill these (I donât since Iâm still pretty new and more focused on application and shaping). Also I put mine on with clear polygel so I donât have to mess with moving gel.
Oh yeah and Kokoist instructions say to leave space at the cuticle just like you do.
I would advise you to ditch these, since you already like short nails (I do too), and just build a slight apex with a builder in a bottle or something. Basically just paint the gel like you would regular polish and turn ur hand upside down for gravity to adjust the thickness of the gel. Im not a nail tech, just do them for myself at home and they look really good after just a couple of days of practice. I personally found the full cover tips looking too messy around the cuticles compared to a regular hand painted gel. Then you try correcting the mistakes and end up doing the nails even longer compared to good old painting.
On Etsy there's extra short false nails for sell but they only sell it in round and square shape. đ„ș Although it's kinda more pricier than regular and long false nails.

My thumb is a bit wider then the biggest nail tip, can I fill in sides with gel to get a good fit? They are super short squoval belly tips
I just use full coverage nail tips as I would with partial coverage nail tips. Then I apply a little acetone on the cuticle edge to soften the plastic and file that edge to blend with the natural nail. I'm not sure if you are supposed to do this with full coverage tips, but it works for me.
Thanks so much! They are so easy. How do you take them off if you donât like to soak off? I donât like the smell when I drill it and I donât like using that unless I need to.
Your options are really only soak off or backfill.
I also learned this method from Jounail but she uses a thicker base gel to smooth the cuticle area, the base gel you used looks very thin. Is it regular base gel?

Not yet! But you could use any of the hard gels or jimmygel. I recommend applying Tack to the tip.
I've been using the Kokoist platinum duo as my base and to attach/build the nail. I didn't know you could just paint right on top of the shiny extention surface. đ€
I think it depends on the color you are using. I have found that Kokoist colors adhere really well. But another product might require buffing first.
There was a comment on one of her videos where she mentions what nail glues to use and which not to use. She mentioned one specific one that doesnât do well when it comes into contact with water.
Does anyone know what ingredient she mentions?
I bought full coverage tips and they all fit great except the thumb nail. Is there a way to still use them? The thumb size is just slightly too small on the sides.
This is brilliant! Have you tried using builder gel over top? I find that the soft gel tips are too bendy and not strong enough for all the rough stuff I do.
You totally can, I just hate that i have to file more to even out the shape as builder gel doesn't self level as nicely as hard gels. It still kinda self levels but I have to apply then cure quickly or it will flood my cuticles.
