An Armenian Genocide Survivor's Story | Lucine Z. Kinoian | TEDxBergenCommunityCollege

  • Lucine Z. Kinoian’s talk will be on the circumstance and luck that allowed her paternal great-grandparents to survive the Armenian Genocide in spite of the demoralizing suffering they endured, and the looming, inevitable fate that took the lives of their relatives and loved ones. Kinoian’s talk will focus specifically on her great-grandmother, whose story is that of abduction and abuse. Kinoian believes that who we are as individuals is a product of all those who came before us, and that we have an obligation to ourselves, to our society, and to the world at large to know, acknowledge, and learn from the stories of our past. Over a century has passed since the events that mark the start of the Armenian Genocide, and in telling her great- grandmother’s story, Kinoian hopes to be the voice of a generation that is long gone and in danger of being forgotten.
Lucine Z. Kinoian is a third-generation Armenian-American who is active in the respective New York and New Jersey Armenian communities. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature and Philosophy from Rutgers University and a Master’s degree in English Education from Columbia University. Kinoian currently works as an English teacher in the Tenafly, NJ school district.

On the 106th anniversary of the vicious slaughter of 22,900 innocent Muslims at the provincial center of the City of Van on April 21, 1915 by mutinous Armenian gangs (Hunchak, Dashnak and alike), We, The Turkish People around the world, would like to commemorate our martyrs with compassion and love, bowing down in front of their honorable, loving memory with respect.
The VAN massacre originates from the mutinous attitude fanatical Armenian gangs acquaired in the depths of history. Similar massacres committed by Armenians were witnessed throughout the Ottoman-Russian Wars of 1828 and 1877-78, due Armenians’ cooperation with the enemy, as well as other major massacres Armenians committed on their own.
During the early phases of these Russian invasions, aiming the realization of Russia’s historical ambitions, some Armenians who knew the region very well as Ottoman citizens and whose second language was Turkish, led the Russian forces into Turkish territories, causing them to raid Turkish forces and massacre many Muslims. Armenians have repeated similar practices in the VAN MASSACRE.

Armenian extremists have long been feeding the fabricated illusion of establishing a "Greater Armenia" from the Mediterranean Sea to the Caspian Sea. Inspired by the materialization of this mythical idea, they intermittently committed widespread bloodshed against the Turkic-Muslim population in different spots of this geography - particularly in the Caucasus and Anatolia. Likewise, Azerbaijan was no exception. Between March and April 1918 armed Armenian formations mercilessly killed tens of thousands of innocent civilians based on their ethnic and religious affiliations, destroyed hundreds of Azerbaijani towns and villages and ravaged numerous cultural monuments, mosques and cemeteries. In that period, only in Baku, extremist Armenian armed units murdered and tortured about 30,000 Azerbaijani civilians, including women, children and elderly. Mass graves found in Baku were full of corpses of Azerbaijani women with ears and noses cut off and bellies torn open. The city hospital where 2,000 people had sought shelter was burned as well. The brutality of the armed Armenian thugs was also reflected in the reports of foreign diplomats and military officials posted in the Caucasus.

Unfortunately my grand fathers past before I was born and my maternal grandmother passed when I was four. My paternal grandmother decided to move back to Armenia, when I was 6 years old, where she peacefully passed away at age of 103. However I never got the opportunity to talk to them regarding the genocide. My regret is that that story has been lost in the sands of time but their memory remains. I am told that I am a spitting image of my paternal grandfather. I enjoy hearing these stories because it helps me to better understand my grandparents and be able to recreate their own story that they were unable to tell. May god bless you and your family.

There are many historians for both sides, but there is 1 thing they all agree at. That Russians promised land to Armenians if their population is higher than Turkish population at those lands..
Therefore the bloodshed began, while Turkey was at war with many countries who are trying to invade Turkish lands, Armenians that lived in those lands, that Turkish people called brothers for hundreds of years, started to attack and kill their neighbors / friends even block the paths of the Military and feed them poisoned bread. (There are countless documentaries about in how bad conditions the Turkish Military was at those times after the attacking Nations confiscated all the army's weapons. - There are many letters from those people that say all their bread finished and they have nothing more to eat, and how freezing it is)
At that point, already weakened Turkish army who are at war with many nations, that doesnt even have anything to eat or wear to their feet at freezing cold, had to move the Armenian people to other places, either that, or the remaining Turkish people on those lands were going to get killed by Armenians and those lands were automatically going to get lost without even a fight.
Moving Armenian population was the only choice and the hardest though, since there were nothing to eat and the weather conditions were harsh, many people died from both sides, it was never planned as a systematic kill, it was never meant to be that way, it was never the intention of Turkish people to start a fight against Armenians in the first place. All started with Armenians wanting more land to their own and if they had the population % more they were gonna get it so they started the killing.
People believe these or not, ALL the Turkish Historical archives are open, even the Military Archives are open (which is quite Radical for a Country to open their Military Archives to all the World, in the whole world there is not more than a dozen countries that can do it proudly), Turkish Governments have been issuing an unbiased scientific/historical meeting for decades, and asking Armenians to open their Historical Archives to the World so there can be a conclusion at last. But to no help..
Armenians doesn't open their Archives, and even arrested many people who tried to get in, in the past. (Why show the Truth, while you can get a lot of money and land, by Political means and by begging to the World right?) If they have NOTHING to hide, open the pages of History and let's see what really happened. Not just do that, also if you are heavily supporting the Armenian cause, go to İstanbul and check the Historical and Military archives for yourselves for the truth. They are open to public and to anyone 7/24.

No area on the globe is so fascinating to present-day scholars as the Near East; fascinating because it was the cradle of some of the oldest of civilizations, many of which are now but little more than names to us. In ancient times this part of western Asia, mostly mountainous, with fertile uplands and valleys, was a scene of frequent bloody turmoil in one part and another, being overrun by foreign invaders. Nations, kingdoms rose and fell, sometimes through centuries of struggle. Throughout all this, the most persistent, and longest lived of these nations has been the Armenian.

Turkey a few years ago "Is that the Turks committed genocide against the Armenians?" Turkey called on Armenia to establish the inquiry committee consisting of Armenian and Turkish historians on the subject. This commission will prepare the report will accept the result will be reached in line with the announced. Armenia has not accepted this offer in Turkey.
We Turks feel sorry for all the Ottoman citizens, Turkish, Armenian, Kurdish, Circassian and all other ethnic groups who died in those sad events of 1915. human life is above all values such as religion, language and race. We have never tried to make the genocide decision in the parliament of every country by turning the pains of the Turks in 1915 into a means of exploitation. we will keep our sorrow for all our citizens who died in 1915. we have never committed genocide against anyone at any time in history, and we will never admit that we committed genocide for the events of 1915.
We do not grow hatred and hatred over the past suffering. we feel those pains that have been experienced in the past, and we believe that it is possible for both societies to build the future together by putting on ointments to reduce those pains.
You say, in 1915, only we died. We say, we're all dead.
    You say, we were innocent.
We say, no one was innocent there.
You use the language of hate and you travel the assemblies of all countries to make the world a garden of hate.
We use the language of peace, those hate gardens are trying to make a garden of peace. we keep the persecution and injustice in us, and we do not engage other country assemblies with the language of hate.
You teach your children to hate the Turks.
We teach our children respect, love and tolerance.
You have been crying out loud last for 100 years.
We cry 100 years for all the ottoman citizens( Turkish, Armenian, Kurdish, Circassian, Arab, Syriac, Georgian ) who died in 1915, and there is no one to hear we cry.
    Thank you everyone.
