  • It was going to be VERY difficult to change out the head waste line in my 2008 Bayliner 300, so I took on the challenge of cleaning it... It was pretty painless and it worked!

    'chunks of calcium'. Amazing video. I'm going to try to emulate this. Thank you from the UK

    really good solution to that headache - CLR is probably the bottom end of the products you could use - Rydlyme is another alternative - as is barnacle buster. - weakening (reduction in strength of the fluid over time ) sorta slowed you up there - only one catch - some boats have metal through hulls and metal three-way valves - be very careful you don't expose them to the solution.

    Question: in order for the hose to fill up with CLR, do you turn off (sea) water? Thanks.

    How long had it been used before this clean out?

    • @bkayfetz
      @bkayfetz  Před 6 lety +1

      I am the 2nd owner of this boat. I'd guess it was never cleaned before. Most people just change the line. I would if I could.

    Hi! Could you please, just as a follow up, once this is a old video. So tell me if the rubber sealings managed to stand the chemicals in the DLR? No leakage problems with the toilet rubber seals?

      CLR is not very harsh... After I made that video I had that boat for 3 or 4 more years with no issues.

    What water source did all the calcium come from?

    • @johnchandler7041
      @johnchandler7041 Před 3 lety +1

      I personally believe it is produced by a reaction between sea-water and uric acid (pee). If you want to slow this down then do a longer flush to eliminate as much pee as possible :)

    Why not use muriatic acid in a 50/50 mix with water?

    • @bkayfetz
      @bkayfetz  Před 3 lety +1

      I spoke with the manufacturer of the lines/hoses and they recommended against that. Also, there's always a lot of risk working with muriatic acid. Maybe if I did this kind of work regularly I'd give it a shot and maybe save time. But with patience the CLR did the trick.

    You lost me on the 2nd part. Where you reversed the lines. The extension line to wastewater out, It looked like you had it run to a deck drain?

    • @bkayfetz
      @bkayfetz  Před 4 lety

      I had the extension running back to the bowl, making a loop filled with CLR. The strainer is there to catch the big chunks.

      No I got that part. In fact I did it last weekend and head works perfectly now thanks so much for sharing this vid. That was the first part. Then you pulled the bottom line of jabsco but looked like extensions was going to a deck drain. You said waste water out.

    • @bkayfetz
      @bkayfetz  Před 4 lety +2

      I had to rewatch the video to understand your question. For the final flushing I diverted the wastewater line back into the lake for final testing... There was no black water in the lines. Just lake water in/lake water out. That step isn't necessary. I'm glad it worked for you!
