The detailed restoration of your Willys CJ5 looks great. Just one tip. I am the original owner of a 1959 Willys CJ5 in original red paint, have had it stored in a barn since 1971. The name "Willys" on the tailgate and sides came from the factory highlighted in white. I also own a 1967 Jeepster w/continental wheel and a 1968 Jeep Gladiator pick-up. Currently restoring the Gladiator.

Hi Sir. I really enjoyed you video. I have a 1966 CJ-5 which looks 95% the same as your 55. Mine originally have the split windshield with pneumatic wiper motors. I still have the pneumatic wipers but the split operable fwd open windshield is gone (stolen). I love the color of yours, simply beautiful. I hope some day will restore mine to pristine beauty like yours. My Jeep has been in my family since new, only two owners, My father (passed away), and me, I will keep it until my death. My Jeep works and run like new, I really enjoy driving it. My father taught me to drive on it. Thanks, very inspirational video.

I wish I still owned my CJ5, All the early jeeps were better off road straight out of the box unlike the later models, These models could handle just about anything you threw at them. Thanks for doing the Video, priceless info.

the cargo space looks identical to the 1964 Scout 80; two sides either for sitting or where the rear wheel well locate. the Scout 80 has the steel partition rear of the driver and passenger seat, that's where the crew cab 5 bolt position. the Scout also uses vacuum motor wipers. i changed to electric motors since the air tubes is not reliable...air leak will cause wiper motor goes very slow.

Another "change" is the pronunciation of Willys. The Willys company founder pronounced his name Willis. To most people the name looked like Willy's, which is now about the only one you hear.

Right you are. I've been challenged on that with Jeep guys, who have never learned the correct pronunciation of a name. It's Will-iss, not Will-eez.

ANECDOTE: Many times my father pulled out of the mud, sand or cliffs other later Jeeps stuck and unable to get out by them self. My Jeep is securely guarded in my home town of Ponce, Puerto Rico.

Windshield does not just push in. It is a pain, requiring the infamous pull string technique and two sets of hands. LOL

And mine only had it on the drivers side. The passenger had to use a manual one. Oh well, other than holding on they didn't have anything else to do.

That cream coloured Jeep next to this blue one is still being built in India by Mahindra Motors. And I believe this blue CJ-5 were also built in Pakistan. I saw a CJ-5 in Dubai around 1975 that was Pakistan made.

Well now I feel sad. I had a neighbor with an all original cj5 with a factory hard top. At the time I figured it wasn't any older than the 70s. So meh. But NO it had the snorkel panel and cowl panel! I just didn't know what that ment at the time. Well anyways he sold it to some kid who put oversized tires on it. Scrapped the top and added a roll bar. Than the motor blew. Probably from neglect. And next thing I know he was down the street hacking away to stuff some greasy crusty and rusty V8 under the hood. And he rattle canned it flat black! Because everybody in my home town without even using primer! Rattle can every fucking thing matte black! Grills trim wheels bumpers! On shit from Ford explorers to geo metros minivans to pickups and even jeeps.
We had a guy with a 2010s mercury version of an explorer he Matt blacked the chrome grill all the badges and later on the front half of the poor thing. It makes me sick! Every vehicle I've seen has chipping rattle can matte black. So crusty aluminum and dirty chrome start showing threw. And they just leave it like that!
