J Alvarez Thanks!
Outstanding job, Sir! I love the "SOC" coffee mug too! I'd build one for my coins, but the thought - like you said - of cutting 50 stars, well, you get the idea!
Thanks Dan! Yes, that is one of my favorite coffee mugs!
Wow, he had a large collection of coins. I retired with 35 years in the army and I probably don't have but about a dozen laying around in some drawers. You did a very nice job on this project, and I'm sure he was very pleased to receive it.
Thanks Ron! I know I couldn't fill it up with my coins and I'm just about at 20 years in the Army. Thanks for watching and thanks for your service!

Good Job !

8:05 As an alternate way to attach your coin shelves, you could use that technique but replace the hot glue with CA glue. It bonds faster and holds stronger.
very good job!
magnifique flag
Thanks JC!
Mike you're a bad ass!! Love this...>>>
Thanks Eloy!
Salute!!!
This is a very nice looking flag :-) I salute you.
Cy's Corner Thanks Cy!
Thanks Cy!
That came out very nice. So this is what you were working on when the Go Pro challenged the tables saw blade....... If you run out of hot glue in the middle of a project, crazy glue works as well - same idea, different glue - just an FYI
Scott
Thanks Scott! Yes, this is were we lost the GoPro. I'm still bummed I didn't at least get some good footage to go along with the carnage!
Looks great Mike! Did your replace your old go pro with a new one? I've recorded my last two projects with my iPhone. Thought I would give the yiu tube thing a try. I'm looking to buy a camera and wasn't sure the direction to go? Any thoughts?
Ryan
Mac n Wood Ryan, I didn't replace it with another GoPro because of the price. My old one I got on sale when the new model had come out. My Iphone has great quality but because I only got the 16GB one, the memory fills up really quick. I recently bought a camera similar to a GoPro and a digital camcorder both for under the price of the new version of GoPro. I guess we will see how those work out in future videos. I'm not a video or camera expert in any shape or form. I would start off recording the first few projects with your phone so you can practice and get a feel for what works or doesn't work for you. I just subscribed so I can't wait to see some videos rolling out!!!
Wonderful job, Mike. I especially like your attention to detail. (How many parts in your GoPro now?)
Thanks Roy! It's still in one piece but sadly did not survive!
Really nice! What kind of hanging hardware did you put on the back?
Thanks for watching James! I use a french cleat on the back to mount it on the wall.
What are the thickness and width of the boards holding the coins?
Just saw your video and it is amazing. I'm looking at building one for a friend. Any chance you can shoot me the dimensions. I want to make the same size as yours. Thank you
Thanks, send me an email at mike@merzkecustomwoodworking.com
Excellent work, I sent you an email inquiring about having one made.
Beautiful work
but can I ask did you use a bath mat when sand this item
I did use a bath mat! They are cheap and work great as a sanding mat!
than you for answer my question I would never thought of a bath mate be use for that just show you if you think out side of the box there no telling what can be use or made
What kind of cnc machine is that? How much did it run you?
That is the Shapeoko 2 which is no longer available and I have replaced it with the GarageworX CNC which you can see in my latest shop tour.

Mike great work! As a woodworker myself that's a very fair price for all the work involved.
how much?!?!?!
+aceleenieto Thanks for watching and if you would like to discuss having owning your own American Flag Coin Rack or another custom made project you can email me at mike@merzkecustomwoodworking.com
Mike Merzke thank you
Nice, but I admit I am far more interested in seeing details of your freak gopro accident :)
Lasivian Leandros Thanks, and I completely agree. The true tragedy in this story (other than me owning a GoPro that doesn't work) is that there was no action video of it's doom. I was trying to get an overhead shot and the mount I was using to attach it to my table saw fences slipped... and it became a projectile. Good thing I was right there to catch it with my rock solid (yeah right) abs!
