    Jon, I really enjoy watching your videos and have learned a lot from you. One thing I always notice in your videos I seeing you run various stock through your table saw freehand. Like in this one @ 10:17 with your flag case. I was so nervous watching you do that... As with every shop it is always, "your shop, your rules" but all I know is you have either got a very steady hand, or some massive cajones my friend! Much love from one service member to another!

    • @JONSDIY
      @JONSDIY  Před 5 lety

      Brandon, remember that I speed up my videos so not to bore the viewer. I do have a steady hand but I go really slow. I mean really slow. This is not evident in the video because I have speeded it up. After watching the clip you are referring too, I am a bit surprised that I did not use the fence. But I have been told by viewers that the fence is for the side you keep, and this could not be accomplished with a fence or a track guide due to the triangle shape. Thanks for your comment and above all else your service to our great nation. Thanks Jon

    That was great. For ME the instructions on part of this was hard for me to follow but that’s because I’m a hands on guy. I would have to make 10 of these before I would be comfortable building them on my own.

    Good morning. I really enjoy your videos and am going to build a shadow box using many of your techniques. What foam board thickness do you use? Many thanks, G

    • @JONSDIY
      @JONSDIY  Před 6 lety

      G K, Thanks for your compliments. I always shoot for a half inch foam board. This gives great depth for push pins and ribbon bars. Half inch is expensive and since I am cheap I buy 2 quarter inch boards and glue them together. (says 1/4 but its a little less) They sell then for a dollar each at "Everythings a Dollar" store. Once all glued and ready they are about 2/8ths less than a half inch. Shoot me a pic of your completed project. Would love to see it when its done. thanks Jon. jonsdiy@gmail.com

    I watched a couple of your videos to get some ideas for a display case I'm going to build for a friend and I get nervous watching you cut such small pieces on the table saw. Have you considered using a Grr-ripper from Micro Jig? I bought one about 8 months ago and I love it. I was cutting thin strips of walnut for an inlay on a chess board and my table saw fired a piece of walnut across my shop into the drywall. That's when I bought my micro jig. lol Nice shadow boxes by the way.

    • @JONSDIY
      @JONSDIY  Před 6 lety

      Randy, first heard for the grr-ripper. Thanks for the tip. I will look into it. The confidence I have cutting small pieces comes from the fact that I use an 80 tooth blade. On top of getting a much cleaner cut you have way less chance of shooting pieces across the room. I love the idea for the Grr-ripper and will credit you if I use it in my next video. Thanks for the tip and the compliment. Jon

      Thanks. I have been woodworking for a long time and finally got one. Should have done it a few years ago. It is also great on the router table, I have the same one you do. I have also decided to use one of your designs for a shadowbox that I am making for a Vietnam vet.

    Know this is an older video but what dado set are you using that fits on the arbor of that saw?

    • @JONSDIY
      @JONSDIY  Před 4 lety +1

      Losttraveler, amzn.to/2qISNLR The dado set I am using was purchased at Sears. It is a Craftsman. The item has been discontinued. The closes comparable item is the Frued dado set. and also know that the table saw I am using does not support dado blades because the arbor is not that large. Because my dado blades are small I simply by pass the stabilizer nut and just use the locking nut and can get close to 3/4 of an inch on my arbor. Thanks for the comment. Jon

    • @JONSDIY

      No specifically. But a display case is a display case. This would be easy unless you want this in the shape of a bronking bull.

      @JONSDIY  Před 5 lety

      foam board. purchased at "Everythings a dollar" or you can go to an arts and crafts store and by the half inch for 5 bucks. I am cheap so I glue two quarter inch ones together. Only 2 dollars this way. :-)

    Hello,
    Do you take orders? My husband is retiring in May. I know it is short notice. We just found out that his detailer didn't process his paperwork back in 2018. My husband had signed a contract putting his retirement to August of 2022. He was told Monday that the August date is wrong and it is suppose to be July 2021. We are now left with everything to do in 4 months. He is planning on having his ceremony on May 13th. Thanks.
