- It took the death of a 7-year-old girl and just over a year of lobbying by one man to get the sale of lawn darts banned in the U.S. in 1988. Assault weapons? Yeah… we're still working on that.

Dad didnt say, "dear, dont stand under the flying metal dart. You might die."
We absolutely had this at home and it absolutely was a terrifying game for a child. Yet. We used it. The 80s were a special time.
They should have just sent thoughts and prayers.
Exactly
Watching this because I just got a mint condition box of 4 of these from my grandparents basement
My father once told me a story of how his friend was blinded by a lawn dart when they were 7. They had a game where they'd toss them straight up into the air to try and see if it would land in a marked circle, or something like that anyways.
My father threw his dart up and he said it was so bright out that it actually disappeared in front of them. He says that he ran away while his friend kept staring up at the sky when the dart came back down and landed in one of his friend's eyes.
He says all he remembers after that is the shrieks his friend made as he ran inside. They weren't allowed to play together after that and he never saw those lawn darts again.
This is sad but the only reason for these accidents are reckless behavior. A few thousands of peoples died every year by Household items like kitchenknives.
I agree it is very dangerous for unsupervised kids to play with these but also wonder how many people have been injured by a flying horseshoe
Certainly some.. but there is a pretty significant difference from a blunt steel object and a 12 inch steel dart designed to penetrate deeply into whatever it hits. You might as well give kids throwing knives
I have two sets of jarts in new condition. We will be having a local tournament this spring. "Jarts dont kill people, people kill people."
I hit my grandma with a lawn dart. Thankfully it came down between her arm and body as she was sitting in a lawn chair and didn’t hurt her. I didn’t get her famous lemon cake that day.
The 1980s as a kid was THE BEST!
"Kid's its starting to rain. Put your lawn darts up and come inside and play with your wood burning kits. When it stops raining why dont you go ride your go-karts or something?"
“You catch one of those things with your head and you’ll be getting coloring books for Christmas for the rest of your life.”
-Jeff Foxworthy
I found 3 or 4 of these wen i was like 6. Me n my neighborhood friends would throw them up in da air simultaneously as high as we culd and try to dodge them on their way down. Not too difficult as long as the sun wasnt in ur eye. Years later i realized we were basically playing russian roulette gravity style 🎯💀💩
🤣
That's kids for ya.
My brother and I found some very old, very dry firecrackers when we were kids.
And we invented a game.
These wicks were so dry, they'd burn down quick, soon as you neared a match to it.
The game was to light the firecracker, then drop it into an empty beer bottle and place the cap back onto the bottle before it exploded.
We used to play this years ago.
assault weapons are banned for the general public for the most part. what you are talking about are semi automatic weapons so perhaps just use the correct terminology please.
If this happened today in the US the GOP would say the safety of children should take a backseat to the stock market and SCOTUS would say it’s our constitutional right to have children die by unregulated lawn dart.
Okay?
So true
@♟️WaCongo Forever ♟️ That's funny. NOT!!!
Doubt it. As sensitive as people are. Now if it was a gun than they wouldn't care😂
Democrats are very special. there are places for you , mental health institutions
🤔 interesting… imagine how many lives would be saved and how much survivor trauma would be spared if it only took 1 child dying by gun violence for lawmakers to make at the very least common sense gun laws
Imagine if lawn darts were important.
Well, there is no Constitutional right to own lawn darts. We should actually address the root causes instead of trying to disarm law abiding citizens.
@@MrEkzotic No one is calling for the ban of all guns though, are they? Nope, they're calling for sensible gun laws.
Now let's talk about root causes. Mental health you say? So how about a law that determines a person's mental fitness BEFORE they're able to purchase one.
@@filonin2 You've never been hit in the head with one ,my uncle did and he started voting republican.
@@edmunddantes7097 How about we return to the values of the 1980s and stop giving millions of peopls psychotropic drugs like mind altering SSRIs? We had plenty of guns in the 1980s and mass shootings were extremely rare.
…then we took action on a lawn dart but not an AR-15!!!
I was totally playing with these in the early 80s as a 4 year old.
I mean, it's literally a freaking weapon right there.
The loony left thinks everything is a weapon
I remember these. Well, now we have a much safer yet similar family backyard past time called Cornhole.
In West Virginia they play Cornhole at family reunions,a little different spin than the game that replaced horse shoe's though.
@@frankd.506 Lol
That's called in-breeding.
Interesting
You can own automatic weapons but you can't own these
I loved to play with them. They were safer than cars with no seatbelts.
I still have these lawn darts but nothing bad happened
I guess there isn't as big as a "lawn dart lobby" as there is a "assault weapons lobby".
I'm shocked.
I still have a set
I'm calling the police.
@@frankd.506 😱🛫
@@55giantsfan22 Your house is now surrounded. Let's do this peacefully, jist put the darts on the ground and back away.
I have a set too but I don't brag about them.
@@frankd.506 You just did.
LMK when you're giving your kids assault rifles to play with in your front yard.
Mark and Patricia McCloskey play with their guns in their front yard.
Got a set of Lawn Darts with the box
I have a set.
Brag
But not automatic assault rifles.
Who has automatic assault rifles besides the military, only a Democrat would say something that stupid
I have a brand new fulk set never open set its the slider jarts
Pitbulls are such good nanny d0gs..
All d0gs are such good nannies..
The dad is a failure, he was careless and his kid died and he went on a crusade to ruin other peoples fun because he felt guilty.
It was thrown over a fence by another kid...
It appears, hitman9078, that your comment is a failure. :D
... ... and?
One could argue bicycles are far worse? Disco still sucks
Yet assault rifles ...
Jarts
I could use them as 100,000 ,00 for a zombie apocalypse 😊
Sure, ban lawn darts, but hey, AR15s for everyone!!
I have a beautiful set of AR's
Take cars off the road then. I personally knew lot's of people who's life was ended by them. It goes up all the time. My second cousin hit a pine tree beside the road just a few snows back and we lost him was the latest. Ban trees too.
A kid I went to school with got t-boned coming out from under a bridge and his dad the was the first responder. That is a worse story. He was alive for hours in a wreck smashed half flat. Ban bridges.
My best friend in high school...gone at only 19. Ban semi trucks.
All these people were also on a road. What does that say about roads?
💩 eating eqivocators.
A lot of these things you are listing are things that cannot be controlled and can almost be in every day life. A lawn dart isn't a necessity and can be controlled (removed). So they're really not comparisons. However I am very sorry for your losses.
Try driving a gun to work and at least those vehicles are insured.
I wish I could give you a thousand likes.
@@frankd.506 Nice one Frank.
It's the lawn darts fault.
No, but it IS the assault weapons fault.
@@ginahill503define assault weapon...I'm waiting...
@@ginahill503 you got me there
Yet guns are still a ok!!
Lmao.
Vajont 1963
According to the GOP, yes.
Though I wonder how lawn dart injuries compared to swimming pool injuries at the time? 🤔 Because today there are literally *thousands* of deaths from swimming pools every year and thousands more injuries from kids and adults slipping and hurting themselves in and around pools. Yet I don't seen anyone calling for a swimming pool ban... In hindsight this looks like an irrational targeting of a single kind of recreation. I hate to say it, but it seems like the dad went on a crusade because he felt guilty over what happened and needed to fix it somehow.
Natural selection
🙄 we are a nation of wimps. Teach your kids not to throw pointy things dangerously.
Champagne and celebrations all round for making this ban possible.
Equivocating. Use real arguments to make a real point.
But we can't ban assault weapons
Americans cant but assualt weapons genius
Okay so comparing guns to lawn darts is okay but comparing guns to vehicles is not.. what a joke
Cool now do guns
And the crimmals will certainly turn there guns ,because they are law abiding citizens that follow the rules, Democrats get dumber by they day
I like my AR15 i plan on buying another one
And get some extra mags.
And yet anyone who can fog a mirror van purchase a military style assault rifle. “The only way to stop a bad guy with a lawn dart is a good guy with a lawn dart”.
Interesting.
Going on my “DH” & “Hope” playlists. 🧩✌🏼
