Very nice, many good memories brought back, 3d printing factory 2 blocks away from my home, Beaverton Ontario. Thanks Matt
I am pulling my OG slider darts out for my kids 10th birthday. If you are SOBER AND SAFE they are tons of fun!
Loved these as a kid. Wish they would bring them back or may have to make some too. Thanks.
They would come back - they're banned in the CFR for sale in the USA
Why not just 3d print a set like in this video plenty of 3d printing services if you don't have a printer yourself 🙂👍✌️
I own several styles of the jarts, my self and family play night time jarts with glow sticks taped to them, so much fun
I've got three vintage sets!!! Whoop!!!
I have two older ones finally..! My mom used to talk about these damn things all the time then I actually come up on some a very nostalgic moment
Back then, you learned real fast to get the hell out of the way.
i remember that game very well when i was a young kid, at the cottage of my father when i throw i was not very good to throw 30 feet away, but when the long dart came down and the girl did pay attention where it coming down that hit her leg. as the kid i was i felt scared and run off and i never play that game again.
Now i'm 61 yrs old and i knew it wasn't my fault, but i felt so guilty and hurt and scare at the same time.
i agree this is not a game for kids and i understand why this was banned
i guess we should ban bicycles. it's the toy that hurt me most as a kid, that and the radio flyer wagon we tied to the back of a bike. i earned an ER visit with that one.
You need to make the hoops. I have the original set still. It has 2 plastic tubing hoops that you aim to land inside. We make the big one 100 points, closer to the thrower, and the small one 500 points, further from the thrower. Much more fun to try to get them inside the circles. I think they're like 1.5 ft diameter and 2.5 ft - I think.
I have one of the original hoops (the other disintegrated) they were just hard plastic tubing. I bet some semi-flexible tubing and a dowel to connect them would be plenty, and easy.
I'm just gonna make a sand mold and use aluminum for the weighted portion , drill and tap. Then use the flexible plastic for the 3d printer. The main tube will stay the same as you have , but the point will be a beam nail cut down that you can get from any hardware store....
I've been looking for a set of these for months!!!
Check flea markets, yard/estate sales, and antique shops and keep a sharp eye out for them.
I found a set of Lawn Darts, complete in the box, about three years ago at an antique mall. And just a few months ago, in a different antique/thrift shop, I spotted a set of Slider Jarts. They're out there , just be patient and keep hunting. Good luck!
Thank you for the information. I will definitely keep my eyes open for a set
Would you be interested in making a set of replacement fins for my set? I only need one ?
Thats better than the real ones. I know, I own a couple sets.
Those look like a Jart replica. There are about a dozen other designs as well, but these were the most common,
I've been joking for a couple of years that while it's illegal to buy or sell lawn darts, it's not illegal to make some and forget them at the local park.
I never expected to see someone actually making some of their own. Interesting.
Make a disc of pool noodle material and put it just behind the weight so the fin coming down impacts the pool noodle material and is decelerated gently.
Put a foam washer between the dart and the fun to prevent the plastic from cracking
I loved Jarts as a kid and always imagined them being rockets and the ring a city that needed to be blown up. It is dumb that they were banned but given the intelligence of our society especially these days it was probably a good thing.
You'd be saying something completely different if you had a child or even just a family member killed by lawn darts. Anyways i still have my original lawn darts they are extremely faded but still work just as good as new 🙂👍✌️
@@RavenTheLabradorare you for banning swimming pools. They kill hundreds of children every year. Lawn darts didn’t kill 10 during the entire time they were available
Wish I could find a set of these.

You can still buy lawn darts in canada they are not the original brand but i purchased a fww sets of the ones that are still being sold now and honestly im surprised they are being sold because of used irresponsibly they are still just as dangerous so im jot sure how they are getting past regulations that prohibit them in canada and the United States.🙂👍✌️
My mom use to buy us regular darts we use to play w/them all the time w/ aboard like darts we never killed each other
Just label them as roman war darts 😁
I have a set of Franklin darts, the safer style with blunt tips and sliding fins, but my fins are cracked and need replaced. Are the fins still available?
Ebay link doesn't work; delisted?
Any way of getting the CAD files or a copy of the drawings?
Any chance I could get the files? I clicked on your link to buy the parts but it’s not active.
Do you sell the STL for the whole print set up? Including tips?
Great stuff Looking for files for 3D printer for fins, weight container and caps. I'd be grateful if you would send them my way.
id sure love to pay you for a set....for an historical display only, _of course_
What infill did you use for the PLA
0%. the design I made uses only 1 shell for the fins and 2 on the tube. This keep the weight down so the CG is in the right spot
have you found another way to provide these?
Just stumbled into this wanted to make a set for my parents are you still making the 3rd printing the fins
eBay removed them since they are associated with banned goods. I am working on getting an alternative secure purchasing method worked out.
@@kevinsgarage would love to buy the 3d parts once you can sell them again.
Where did you get the aluminum tubing from? I cannot find the sizing that you used.
@@kevinsgarage Thanks Kevin. Any chance you can send me the STL files for the tip and washer cover piece?
Hi Kevin. In general is it possible to print fins with a design on them such as a aports team logo in at least two diffferent colors? If so what 3D printer(s) would you suggest for that? Many thanks.
The new fins I am printing now are very hard to print, even in one color due to the flexibility, not really for beginners. I think a sticker or paint might be your best bet for a logo. I have red and blue fins, but can do a few other solid colors for an additional $20. My page will be going live in a few days.
@@kevinsgarage I very much appreciate your honest response and very much look forward to your live page. Thank you
Also, 3D printing is a lot of fun and I highly recommend getting into the hobby. Elegoo and Prusa are two great brands to start with.
Also be aware of pets in the area. Dogs may attempt to catch them when tossed
Link to buy 3d printed parts does not work....how do I get in touch with you to buy them?
Would you be interested in making a set of replacement fins for my set? I only need one?
I would have turned the tips out of solid steal or brass.
Is your .stl file available somewhere?
I actually got hit in the head with one and sent to the emergency room when I was 6. Got very lucky and it was just some stitches.
Could you possibly seel the STL files or 3dobject to me so i can print them myself thank you… doesnt need to be perfect.
Are the fins ABS? I believe the originals were made of polyethylene which were more flexible. I am told it's hard to print the fins in poly due to the material shrinks too much.
I printed them out of PLA. They don’t flex, they break, that’s why I redesigned them without the fin points. I’m not sure the original fin design can be printed due to breaking at the layer. But I can see a cast being made and then using a semi flexible resin to cast the part in.
Just but the legal set for $18, cut the tubes off the fins and use them. They r perfect and flexible.
@@sbetts10001 You are correct and they work just as well! I try to pick them up at rummages & at auctions.
I printed some out from thingiverse from TPU. Had to split the file in 2 but they came out pretty great. No breaking with ground impact or other darts hitting them.
Can you link to the stl files you used to print?
At this time I have chosen not to release the files, but the plastic parts will be available to purchase soon.
@@kevinsgarage "error page". This is the downside to trying to make money on *everything*.
You should have made the tips metal and pointy
I could have, but fringing down the threads would have made the tip a bit weaker, and I couldn’t find any metal covers, so I opted for the plastic.
@@kevinsgarage Kevin is there a way to get ahold of you personally about these ? I played this game with my Dad. And to have a set would mean everything to me.
i read that story about the girl that got killed by one of these yard jarts. the story said that the father had a set in the garage. which he was not watching his kids. the story said that the son went into or sneaked into the garage got the yard jarts. him and his friend started to playing around with them in the back yard. while the girl was outside playing in the front of the house.the story has it the boys were under the age. to begin with one of the boys throw the yard jart over the house and it stuck the girl. to me it should be the parents fault for now watching there kids. because i can't remember if the parent knew the kids were playing yard jarts or not. but if the parent knew they were playing with them they should have been put up or locked some where.
is it legal to buy or sell fins that are of similar size to the fins you printed?

Jeff foxworthy: You can kill a elk with a lawn dart.
No, no you cant. Elk are massive and terrifying. I'd rather fight a bear.
Calm down. you are not building a machine gun! Good video though.
Think of how many Children drowned in swimming pools and die in car accidents.. I can see drunk adults having accidents too .
What a shame.. people are so dumb
