I have changed over a year ago all the front arms, even bolts and wheel hubs based on your videos, and it seems that it is a time to replace the column and I can't wait for your next video 😅would you mind to describe what you're going to address on your Mercedes this year?

      Thanks, Igor. The car is 23 years old, so I would make videos if I can on whatever that needs fixing. I know I have to replace the upper control arms at some point. Also, the shifter was stuck at park the other day and am waiting for a part to fix that...I intend to keep it riding as smooth as the first day and so we will see what happens. My steering column is still ok though. Thanks again.

      if you feel free play at rest when turning the steering wheel back and forth, it might be good to check your inner & outer tie rod ends for play, also the 4 conical rubber bushing inserts in the steering rack. can also check the adjustment between the pinion gear & rack. all good places to look before replacing the steering column.

    I suggest spraying this parts in cosmoline before installing (after taping the belt and crankshaft side of course). I personally use CRC SP400, but any brand works. I also use it on bolts under the car and other parts that can be affected by corrosion and they don't really get a nice coating from the factory. You'd be surprised how much that thing helps even 10 years down the line. Corrosion, rubber denaturation etc.

    In your "short" presentation you say that an harmonic balancer going bad could have catastrophic consequences. I guess that its function is to reduce vibrations generated by pulleys and strap that it drives. What is the symptom of it going bad, does it go bad through rubber delamination and what would be the consequences?

    • @masood-tv

    My first attempt to remove the bolt has failed. I've used the CTA Mercedes lock tool, a 30 in 1/2 breaker bar with a 24 in steel tube extension and my 5' 8" x 145 lbs couldn't do it - and it would be useless to do with more leverage, because of my height. Some use impact wrenches on crankshaft bolts and CTA even offers special heavy sockets for that purpose. I've never used an impact wrench on a spinning shaft. Does one need to lock the pulley in this case? And could this damage the engine? Your opinion , thoughts and experience on this.

    • @masood-tv
      @masood-tv  Před měsícem

      Hi Michel, you can absolutely use an impact gun, but you would have to remove the fan first to make room for the gun. I have a video on that also.
      Spray it with some penetrating fluid, leave it overnight or for a time and try again. I am not sure how your height will impede utilizing more leverage. Use as much leverage as possible. Look at my video again. I think I had over 5 feet of leverage easily...

    Thanks a lot. I followed your step but I was not sure if the depression present in crankshaft was perfectly fitted on the harmonic balancer mark or not. But I tight the 27mm bold and the harmonic balancer went all the way to its position and Serpentine belt was perfectly fitted.
    Even if the car running fine without any noise, I am still not sure if the depression of crankshaft matched with balancer or not. So I have a question here, if the depression doesn't match, still the harmonic balancer will fit in?

    • @masood-tv
      @masood-tv  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Hi, the indentation or depression in the pulley must perfectly fit the tab or the protrusion on the crankshaft, or you won't be able to torque the bolt.and the pulley won't turn. So, in other words, you have done it correctly.

    • @torontoonline
      @torontoonline Před 8 měsíci

      @masood-tv thank you for reply. For cross confirmation, I opened everything again and this time the crank pully was very hard to pull. I didn't had a puller so couldn't pull it. But what I observed is, the crank pully 0.25 inch outside Crankshaft rod end position. In your case does the crankshaft pully and crankshaft rod exactly end at same point or the crank pully a little bit outside of crankshaft rod?

    • @masood-tv
      @masood-tv  Před 8 měsíci

      @torontoonline if you torqued it to spec, that is how far it goes. Alignment of the belt is another indicator of correct positioning. Also, remember the indentation goes all the way thru. I don't have the car with me to check for you, but the pulley should abut the seal.

    Warning to all: DO NOT use the suggested tool. It may work or it may break (twist and elongate the square hole). Also, even if it doesn't break, it may hold the pulley or it may not. It is too light duty for this application. Mr. Masood had success but you may not and it's not worth the risk.

    • @masood-tv
      @masood-tv  Před 10 dny

      Actually, the Ford tool is made of very hard steal. I know because it took quite a bit of grinding to make it fit the new pulley. The wrench may break first before the tool does. It saves a lot of money over the Benz tool. It works on some Ford trucks, so I doubt very much it would break at these torque values. I have since replaced 2 more crank pulleys with same tool, BTW.
