Chevrolet’s 2017 Silverado 2500HD offers more capability than most Americans need in a truck, but it’s built for worksites, rather than commuting or fetching loads from Home Depot. This year’s biggest news sits right under the hood of each diesel version: a 90% new 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8 that makes 445 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque. Whether you choose to go with rear-wheel or available 4-wheel drive with low range, you’ll get a 6-speed Allison automatic.
Another big change for this year is support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but anyone towing with a Silverado HD will appreciate the camera mounted below each wide-angle side mirror. These will help drivers monitor their blind spot on highways or a trailer on the worksite. The Silverado 2500HD can tow up to 18,100 pounds, which doesn’t quite match the capacity of the Ford Super Duty, but George Kennedy got 16.6 mpg combined over a week in the Silverado HD after getting 15.9 over a week in a Super Duty. Thanks for the review. Very well done. I agree, the price of these things have gotten ridiculous. Maybe GM knows that a lot of these are paid for in cash by business owners who just write them off as a business expense...but then use them to take their kids to soccer practice and get groceries on the weekend.

Chevys love of huge amounts of chrome cladding amazes me. Someone at GM didn't get the memo that tons of chrome is lame. What's even more amazing is round tire in square hole! Looks great! Throw a 9 foot snow plow on that wonderful IFS front end and see what happens.

Good luck finding a LT or a LTZ double cab. I've been to several dealers and they told me it has to be special ordered. 99.9% available trucks out there across the nation are crew cabs. I've looked at Autotrader and currently shows zero available. The double cab would be perfect for parking and maneuvering as the overall length is almost a foot shorter.

Decent review. Better than some I've seen. Nice truck, but like all other new vehicles it's overpriced. The problem is that car manufacturers think their products are worth making massive payments for up to seven years, but think their only worth giving a warranty for about half that time. When the manufacturers come out with a 250,000 mile warranty, I may consider buying a new truck.

Ford is building a better truck right now. That may change year to year with chevy, but this year ford is better.

You can't make a statement like that without backing it up with facts. So, how is the Blue Oval version (F250) better?

Tom Sammon @ Towing, payload, hp, torque, function, innovation, body styles, options, price, quality. Top that off with best selling truck 40 years straight! It's ok to be second best though!

Kevin Ray F250 350 one of the ugliest Hds on the road. HP Tq, changes year to year. No one does 30,000lbs so let's be straight about that. Youd need a bigger truck. Just cause it can doesn't mean it can do it well. In the end it's all a pissing contest that's a cold hard fact. Plus also Ford's diesels are garbage 🤣

C Steele @ Aw, simmer down Charlotte. I knew I could get to you and you bit hook, line and sinker. Guys like you are fun to screw with! You can't handle the fact that you screwed up every time you walk into your garage. Just another butt hurt fanboy that can't handle the truth. LOL
