You are pretty damn disconnected if you believe that “someone in *their* community is finally calling for a stop”. There are a lot of people who hate this on all sides. Killer Mike had a pretty profound and emotional speech begging rioters to keep it peaceful. There are many, after all, it’s their community too that these rioters are hurting. People like you are part of the problem.

I live in Maryland, right outside Baltimore and I am so proud of my city for once. The protests that have been held for George Floyd RIP, have all been peaceful. These other cities' protests have all turned into nothing but burning, destroying, and looting.

Isolated incidents of a police officer commiting murder (doesnt matter if they are black or white) equals systemic racism and all cops must pay.
I dont understand how people think this way. I grew up with crooked cops, I am white, and from high school on I was harrassed by crooked cops in my town daily. Eventually IA got a hold of the department and ALOT of people got fired including the police chief.
Bottom line is, growing up being harrassed by a few cops NEVER made me believe that EVERY cop is bad.
I live in Minneapolis and we have decided to claim Melvin Carter as our own Mayor! He's doing a great job balancing a crisis that came from Minneapolis, not ST Paul.

My 2 mills-Primarily, the instigators and perpetuators of "the violence" in these riots do not care one whit about justice, nor right and wrong. There exists a very small number (percentage-wise) of indiscriminate criminals who use any excuse whatsoever to stir up social unrest and riots, so that they may, under cover of large crowds, commit the violence, theft and destruction that we're experiencing. They have no respect for themselves, and hence no respect for anyone else. They have no values at all, yet operate under the guise of standing up for what's right. Whereas, the peaceful protestors are the ones who actually do care and want to see justice done. I don't believe that reasoning with those who function outside of reason will do much good, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try. Good stuff, thumbs up.

Congrats, you were able to find some of the only clips of these riots where the RIOTERS were not setting buildings on fire, looting, killing, assaulting innocent bystanders, like an elderly Asian couple that was trying to defend their buisness by asking people nicely to not hurt their buisness so the rioters pretended to walk away but turned around and punched a +60yr old korean woman in the back of the head and he kept beating on her and her husband with a 2 X 4. There is another incident with a man trying to defend his buisness until the mob rushed him, stoned him (chucked rocks at him) and beat him to a pulp, they knocked him unconscious and several of them stomped his head into the asphalt, as his bloody broken body laid there and they thought he was dead they searched his pockets to see what they could steal.
You also missed video of them chanting and yelling to "kill the white folk" and other such "clever" racist slogans they use before finding another innocent thats white to beat into a pulp.
These riots are violent with lulls while they recharge for the next assault or crime. These videos are of the lulls.
One more thing:
I will not be kneeling and bowing down to racist as*holes that have no compunctions about their criminal and reckless actions that are affecting many many lives, some irrevocably. What it is actually saying is "we are above you, get down on your knees and worship us" & "remember 100yrs ago when people who looked like you had my people in servitude? We are going to do the same to you and it won't be racist because we are black."
There is a petition now signed by 1000s to not help the police in anyway. These are supposed professional people.

Riots achieve nothing. They're indiscriminately ransacking stores owned by minorities. They're beating people who try defending their businesses which they poured their lifesavings into. The riots don't send a more meaningful message. What it does is devalue their argument and portray them as criminals, which the rioters (not all protesters) are.

What about the thin blue line? It may be 1 in a 1000 cops who would use excessive force (potentially leading to death) but only 1 in a 1000 cops would arrest another officer using excessive force as well. I have a hard time believing the police who say they would have arrested that police officer for what he did. It seems the only "bad" police who wouldn't were all in Minneapolis. There are too many cases of nothing happening until the video comes out or the protests and riots start - I have seen it in the US and I have seen it in Canada.
I am not defending the rioters...I just think this thin blue line has to be addressed. I strongly suspect that if that officer was led away from the scene in cuffs by other cops (or stopped from what he was doing in the first place) we wouldn't have the mess on our hands that we do.
I am not in any way a minority but I would not believe any police would back me if they were witnesses to one of their own wronging me. If you are a police officer and you would not arrest one of your own for using excessive force, you are not an innocent police officer being swept up in this.
I rank the problem this way:
1. Cops unwilling to cross thin blue line to arrest other officers who do wrong - if you would arrest a civilian for doing that, then arrest your colleague (like choking a person or excessive force).
2. What appears to be poor clarity on what force is considered appropriate.
3. People resisting when they are being arrested.

These riots are really opening my eyes to the systematic problems in the US. Something is very definitely wrong with law enforcement when I see the numerous incidents of brutality against those in the protests that are peaceful. The rioting destruction is unjustifiable, but understandable. Angry emotional people lash out, and a smaller minority are opportunist thieves who ride on that wave to loot. But the vast majority of people are legitimate, they are peacefully protesting and not causing destruction or inciting violence. Perhaps the media has an agenda, but regardless of that, you just have to watch all the unadulterated phone-footage by civilians to see what the situation really is. Ben and anyone else is right to condemn the rioting, and to point out that a majority of police are normal people who are on your side, but what is simultaneously true is that there really is a problem in the police force that needs fixing.

Coming from a perspective of someone who has actually suffered abuse, there is a truth to that. However, the problem is they are not just lashing out at the ones who abused them. They are lashing out at the whole world, which is neither healthy nor productive. It’s also not excusable. Being hurt is not an excuse to hurt people, especially innocent people. That is a painful and universal truth that all survivors must come to. We can’t allow our anger and fear to overtake us and control our actions. Passion is useful, but without logic and direction, it will destroy from the inside out.
