    Two points: I think your pros and cons (starting about 7:40) are very, very good, and the real value of your video. Sorry for anyone who does not hang in or otherwise gets there. Second point, your slightly ditzy, young person persona is a great "shtick" (American/English slang, entertainment industry jargon actually, derived from Yiddish shtik). You are both entertaining and endearing as demonstrated by the comments. Embrace your style. I am here as a retired American High School English teacher (learned Latin and French in school, many years ago)-- now traveling to places like Spain and South America. Love the Spanish language and frankly lifestyle. I came here as many have I am sure to learn what is available for learning. The teaching/learning technology has advanced and continues to advance at very rapid rate. You could remake these videos for multiple languages and programs annually. Maybe you should make contact with technology blogger who knows how to demo products (maybe even wants to broaden his or her viewer base with a cross language component). Could make yourself a "gig" (entertainment, teaching and business consultant slang/ jargon, derived from music industry jargon). Look in freedictionary.com at definition 4. You won't find the definition in some of the stuffy, academic dictionaries. The glory and pain of English is that it is the most successful "pidgin" language in the world since the 17th Century.

      Thanks a lot for your amazing comment. Looking back at this video I don't really know if I like it or not. 😅 So it's good to hear I made a rather good impression.
      And thanks for your tips as well. I have actually just filmed a video comparing the Babbel App with Duolingo. I only have to find time to edit it.

    I am Brazilian and I've been using Babbel too.
    it's very good. I had the same opinion about the study with it, I mean, you hear, speak, write and listen. that's perfect. you practice everything in the language.
    this is why I recommend this app to my friends. by the way, great video!

    I've always wondered how the word Babbel is supposed to be pronounced too -- like _Babel_, _babble_, or something else?
    Their grammar explanations for Norwegian were pretty good when I was actively using it. It did have a tendency to repeat the same rather obscure vocabulary items over and over again, which could get annoying. With regards to the accented characters: I guess they got too many complaints from people who didn't know how to type those characters on their keyboards.
    You must be the first German I've heard who pronounces the word "months" correctly :)

    • @ChrisiElliot
      @ChrisiElliot  Před 8 lety +3

      1.Oh yes. That may actually be the reason why they don't focus on accents. I haven't thought of that option :)
      2. For some reason a lot of Germans have problems pronouncing the TH. I don't really get why, but it's a very common problem, even in english advanced courses. So I guess "months" is a pretty difficult word for those people :)

    I'm an American English speaker trying to decide if I should use Babbel to learn Spanish. After watching your video I think I'll give it a try. Not only did you present the information in a clear way, but you did it in a cute way. Your personality is endearing. Thanks for an informative (and charming) video.

    Nice video! It would be nice to see a demonstration of what you actually learned with Babbel. There are so many reviews of methods and apps, but so little demonstrations. I think it's a really good thing that the app shows how grammar works without the difficult grammar related vocabulary. I believe that you don't really need to teach that much grammar at all, we can learn anyway, by attaining that feel for the language you were talking about before. Learning grammar rules are just a shortcut to that, but no one stands around thinking about that while speaking with a person, then you need the feel for it.

    • @ChrisiElliot
      @ChrisiElliot  Před 7 lety

      A demonstration about what I learned with babble would surely be a cool and interesting thing, but in my case i think it's not the best idea because I've had spanish lessons 3 years in school before. So that would not be an authentic demonstration I think. :/
      And btw i totally agree on your opinion about the importance of grammar. Thanks for your comment :)

    I just started Spanish lessons yesterday but I’m focusing on Castilian Spanish, the Spanish of Spain, is this app likely to confuse the issue if it mainly uses South American Spanish, which is slightly different?

      +Ifyoucanreadthis youareawesome Right now i dont really have something to add to this video. Neither positive or negative.
      Babbel is a good choice, because explainations are kept short and simple and everything is trained(listening, speaking, reading, writing)

    Thank you for this video. I really enjoy the way you presented the Babbel app.
    There was only one thing that I have an issue with. When you were showing the British Union Jack
    And the Old Glory flags. For some reason you chose the flag of United States that has 51 stars. Old Glory
    has only 50 stars. I’m sure you didn’t notice that.
    Anyway, I really enjoyed the video. Thank you.

    Can someone tell me whether with this app I can turn it on and put in my butt pack while I'm riding my bicycle and listen to lesson after lesson as I would song after song on iTunes without having to stop to pull my iPhone out and click on next lesson...just continuous play?

    • @ChrisiElliot
      @ChrisiElliot  Před 4 lety +1

      Someone correct me if I‘m wrong but I think all the lessons require active learning, thus really typing, speaking, listening, reading mixed. Back when I made this video there was no ‚only listen‘ lesson.

    • @ChrisiElliot

      Thats a difficult question. I think it is a very good addition to other learning methods that I mentioned in this video. To learn spanish only by using the app seems very difficult to me, but I don't think it's impossible. There's definitely a chance!

      Bradlee297 babbel is a waist of time ... it teaches u very good and i really like it but teaching is divided into parts ... part 1 is free but others u should purchase it .. and thats not a good thing

    • @ChrisiElliot
      @ChrisiElliot  Před 7 lety +1

      You should keep in mind that spanish lessons, spanish books, audio cds etc... Pretty much every other method of learning spanish costs money, too.
      By now I've only found one app which seems to be completetly for free at the first sight and that is "Duolingo". But I don't know if that exists in other countries app stores and I can't say how helpfulitt is. I've only been working with it for a couple days by now.
