- With welding completed, Lasse & Jonas have to get through weeks of sanding and detail work before the now restored body of their 1988 W460 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon can finally get a new paint job.

You should only spray epoxy primer over bare metal and welded area, and then put body filler, because epoxy is A LOT better way to isolate metal and prevent furtherer rust.

Hey Jonas, bin über die BBQ videos auf deinen Channel gekommen und hab dann einfach mal das nächste Video angeschaut und bin jetzt überwältigt, dass du Videos zu meinen beiden absoluten Lieblingsthemen machst. BBQ und Expeditionsmobile. Bin zwar eher ein Fan von den großen Teilen (Mercedes SK und Iveco 90-16 usw.) Aber eine G-Klasse ist auch richtig geil. Bin schon mega gespannt was noch alles kommt auf deinem Channel :) Die Qualität der Videos ist wirklich 1a. Grüße vom Bodensee

Ich kann euch als W461 Besitzer nur raten alle Hohlräume in Rahmen und Karosserie mit Hohlraumwachs wie z.B. Mike Sanders oder Fluid Film zum behandeln und beim Unterboden statt Steinschlagschutz lieber eine Lackierung mit anschließender Fett Behandlung zu wählen um Rost direkt zu erkennen.

Vielen Dank für den Kommentar! Die Hohlräume waren wohl schon mit Wachs versiegelt. In den neuen Schwellern müssen wir das natürlich neu aufbringen. Ist unter deinem auch so ein gummiartiger Unterbodenschutz?
Ja genau, diese Beschichtung wurde ab Werk aufgetragen. Das Problem ist dass durch Beschädigungen in der Beschichtung Feuchtigkeit eindringt und große Roststellen entstehen. Die entstehenden Roststellen bemerkt man lange Zeit nicht und so breitet der Rost ungehindert aus. So geschehen auch bei meinem Wagen; ich merkte es erst als das Rostloch im Innenraum sichtbar wurde.
@@Flugzeugtrolley ja blöd. Die Bodenbleche sehen bei uns zwar ganz gut aus, aber genau wie du es beschreibst hat sich an den Übergängen zu den Schwellern unter der Beschichtung Rost ausgebreitet. Außerdem wiegt dieser Anstrich bestimmt 60kg aufs ganze Fahrzeug verteilt. Die Radläufe vorn haben pro Seite 5-6kg verloren als wir mit dem Drahtbürstenaufsatz die Beschichtung abgemacht haben. Naja, vielleicht hab es in 1988 einfach noch nichts besseres!
@@jonasfreitag das stimmt; auf kurze Sicht ist die Unterboden Beschichtung ja auch ein Schutz und damals sicherlich State of the art. Bei Restaurierungen wird aber mittlerweile darauf verzichtet um Rost schnell zu erkennen und zu behandeln. So lackiert Brabus Classics bei Restaurierungen den Unterboden in Wagenfarbe und versiegelt anschließend mit Wachs. Auf diese Weise kann man bei der regelmäßigen Durchsicht etwaige Roststellen erkennen und behandeln.

Mega Arbeit Jungs, Love it! Aber warum habt ihr nicht Trockeneis oder Sandstrahlen für die Karosse genutzt? Hätte euch sicher einige Tage an Arbeit gespart. Aber sicherlich hattet ihr gute Gründe. Weiter so!!
Danke Lasse! Sandstrahlen zum entfernen des Unterbodenschutzes meint du? Der alte Lack wird ja einfach abgeschliffen und überlackiert. Beim Sandstrahlen haben wir die Rückmeldung bekommen, dass das feine Strahlgut bei der Dicke des Unterbodenschutzes nicht durchkommt, und ein grobes Strahlgut uU Löchern in die Karosserie machen könnte.

That’s absolutely what we should do and what we thought most of the way. But then our German-ness kicks in and everything has to be perfect. 🙈

Thanks, Man! We've been going back and forth about switching to 15 day intervals between videos, but with the paint job we are relying on outside help atm and the 2nd lockdown in Germany is slowing things way down. Appreciate your interest, but for now we'll stick with 1 Video per month.
