Because it's closer. Most people are uneducated on the topic of slavery in general, including the Middle East. We have movies like Roots and Jango Unchained that portray some of the more horrific elements of slavery in the U.S. and people relate to a story. And like almost any philosophy or belief sister, self centered power hungry people tried to hijack Christianity multiple times in its history for personal gain including trying to use the Bible to justify slavery. It's partially a result of being uneducated on the full picture, and partially because people will latch into the things that allow them to believe what they wish to believe.

    • @rangersmith4652

At 3.20: to my knowledge, the first abolition of slavery happened in France (royal edit early xIII century, saying: any person that touches the soil of the kingdom of France is free (or no longer a slave). Of course to admit this we need to cease to consider that slavery was something born in America and concerning solely the « commerce triangulaire » but rather could have concerned anybody in Europe throughout the middle ages.
So the claim that abolition is an English concept seems… rather anglo centric

    • @abehambino
      @abehambino Před 2 měsíci

There have been many abolition movements and eras throughout history. France may have toyed with it but it didn’t last long, obviously. The 13th century preceded the slave trade as we understand it today and while I’m not entirely familiar with the edict, I’m sure it had more to do to disrupting foreigners’ coming into the country.

In England it was actually earlier than that, 1086. In fact, there was a law against owning slaves in England and become a part of common law. During the trans-Atlantic slave trade (where a law was given to allow owning slaves overseas) there were no slaves within Britain itself. There were some challenges to this, the first case Butts v. Penny in 1677, where Chief Justice Holt rejected and denied the possibility of owning or selling someone within England: "as soon as a negro comes to England he is free; one may be a villain (criminal) in England, but not a slave." Eventually, as you know, in 1807 Parliament outlawed the African slave trade by legislation.

@@abehambino Well, like @gooner answer below also mentions about England, after the Xiii century ban, Slavery was never re-established in France. Now, like our fellow English friends, Slavery was indeed authorised in (French) colonies. Then, to make things clear: France abolished slavery in the "recent period" before any other country: in 1791. And Napoleon re-established slavery in Haïti (French colony at he time) around 1804....until it was banned again in 1848.
Ok so let us take a bit of distance:
European countries (France, England...) were the first, and maybe they were the only countries that 1/ questioned Slavery and 2/ abolished slavery, before other "regions" in the World.
A counterexample: Saudi Arabia officially abolished slavery around 1960... but it has been going on since then in Arabic countries (and there are slave markets in Lybia and - undercover - in Sinaï desert in the present time...
My father who served in French army in Mauritania in the years 1956-1958 when doing his military service, also told ¡me that Mauritanians had slaves there at that time.
Another element about slavery in Europe in Middle Ages:
Europe had the "serf": a peasant that was "attached" to the land it was working ion,... to the point where if the land was sold, the "serf" would "follow" the change of land ownership... not to mention that the term "serf" is directly derived from the term "serves" which in latin means: slave!

At 3.00: war being a way through which many humans were abducted to slavery, certainly, but one could make reference to David Graber ( in his book: « la dette: 5000 ans d’histoire ») and the link he made between the debt mechanisms in ancient societies and the example of parents forced to abandon one child to their creditor as a way to repay their debt.

Hey Jordan, as to feminism as an idea, there are 7 prophetesses. There is one of them, Debora, who was not only a prophetess and a judge but she was also a war strategic.
In Book of Hosea chapter 2 verse 16 (in the English translation): 'On that day, says the Lord, you will call me, “My husband,” and no longer will you call me, “My Baal.”' In the Hebrew source it appears in verse 18 not 16, there the term BAAL means "בעלי" i.e. my owner, and it is replaced by an egalitarian term "אישי" i.e. my man.
About slavery, there was an understanding that slavery wont be abolished at once, so in the bible there were laws that put a very heavy restrictions on the owner (no more then 7 years of slavery and better conditions) and fines on the slave (by piercing their ear) who does not wish to gain his freedom after 7 years.
This very morning I was reminded of an Israeli women group for leadership called "Debora Forum". The women members of that forum have made a reputation for themselves as women who were close to decision making centers, like intelligence, like army and so on. They are not engaged on nonsense like contemporary feminism in the West (which I call pseudo feminism) They are simply practicing it.

Influencers teach people how to poach others' content without being caught. Adding music confuses the algorithm. Thanks for explaining this.

Peterson will never be the voice of reason we need for two reasons.
    1. His superstitious belief that in his words, ‘only believers in the Judeo-Christian monotheism can be morale or wise.
    2. His hypocritical cowardice in refusing to identify our women’s movement, Gloria Streinem proudly prefers the term FemiNazi to her own feminism, as the source of this war on science and nature and as he never sided with us at the UofA defending Science from Creationist ‘faith before reason’, we already lost to laws now requiring Feminist Science founded upon ‘feelings INSTEAD of facts.’
Not just science teachers like my husband, unlike me an atheist, but the wisest and most morale man I know, but we Scientists as well.
