    Firstly, yah Gail!!! Love your Seattle Coffee Gear demos!
    Question: on this J8 unit's video, I was also hoping for a "cleaning / emptying" talk (like how to, & how often we need to, empty spent coffee grinds). All good! Thank you!
    WHOA wait!!! I see you retired!! Ohh lucky you and we all are going to miss you so much (if you're reading this). Thank you for all your wonderful help. You ARE the face of Seattle Coffee Gear and I loved your entertaining to-the-point how-tos and information. Congrats and thank you. I wish you thee best in your next phase of life. Take care. Be safe. I hope you see this post when you're reminiscing at some of your fans' comments! lol!

    I purchased this machine about 2 months ago and I have not purchased a cup of coffee from a chain store or at all. My frother does not work as smooth as the one in this video. The daily milk system cleaning is not bad. The 15 bars of pressure is the minimum needed for great espresso and this machine has that. The touch screen is great. I did purchase the 24-ounce milk chiller and it makes life a little easier. Overall it is a great machine in my opinion. I was going to purchase the Breville Oracle Touch but I couldn't imagine the cleaning maintenance on that. This is minimal cleaning.

      Realize this post was several years ago, but just in the off chance that you remember, can you tell me what made you choose the S8 over the Oracle Touch? I've been up in the air between those two exact machines so would love another perspective! Was it just the cleaning process that turned you off from the Breville?

    • @precisionsoundworksstudio
      @precisionsoundworksstudio Před rokem

      @@GMan56M Oracle Touch is a more manual process. I had a manual machine for two weeks and got rid of it. The whole prep process wasn’t for me. You have to mix the coffee and water together. Also, you have to load the portafilter, pull the shot, do all the clean-up. The Jura is pretty much Barista quality coffee and espresso at the touch of a button - hands free. You will not regret a Jura.

  • @Exodos1234
    @Exodos1234 Před 6 lety +5

    I got the machine and I must say there are some pros and cons. The positive: it makes great coffee. The negative: it is a real pain to clean the milk system every time before you switch off the machine. It needs a special liquid and you have to run the milk system twice before it completes the cycle.

    Just wanna point out pH is a measure of acidity. Hardness is a measure of how many dissolved minerals/ions you have in the water like calcium or chlorine. Harder water/mineral water has more dissolved ions while softer water/deionized water has fewer or next to no dissolved ions.

    Just stumbled on this review. Awesome. I recently purchased a S8. I used the ground coffee Shute to make a decaffeinated drink on 2 occasions. Both times I found a large amount of fresh, unused ground coffee at the bottom near the end of the tray of my S8. I’m planning to call Jura to find out. Am I doing something wrong or is their a part missing

    Great reviews! love watching these. Have you had any long term reliability issues with the S8? I had purchased the Z6 from Costco, the grinder failed on it within 18 months, averaging no more than 2-3 cups daily usage. Since Costco took it back no problem, I purchased another Jura model from them, the S8, they were no longer selling the Z6 at that time. The S8 was priced the same as the Z6 that I had purchased 18 months earlier. I've been using the S8 for about 2 month now and not had any issues. But I'm worried because the S8 is way lighter duty than the Z6. The S8 has smaller reservoirs, cheaper and thinner plastic, when it flushed the mechanism uses a lot less water. I really hope I'm wrong and that the S8 stand the test of time, but I was pretty disappointed at how the S8 was designed in comparison to the Z6.

    After spending 3000 Canadian on this I am not so happy. The foam is not rich and creamy enough…more on the luke warm airy side. I find I’m having to microwave my coffee to get it hot enough for me to enjoy. I’ve turned the temperature up to the hottest level ….any tips on making a richer thicker foam? Do they sell a different foam head or something?

    @robinisathakur Před 5 lety +5

    I really wanted the Jura S8 or Z8, love the brand and appreciate the design but the daily milk system cleaning using the milk cleaner consumable and that weird accessory would drive me insane. Melitta, Saeco, Miele and others just flush the milk tube into the drip tray and that’s good enough. Even if the foam was moderately better on the Jura it’s not worth the inconvenience (unless you have a cleaner to do it - every day) IMO

    • @AntonFlier
      @AntonFlier Před 4 lety +6

      uhhh... just so you know, you dont have to use the consumable. You can just let it flush with water. Also it DOES do an automatic flush after you use it. However because the small openings can get clogged it is recommended you clean it more. Its very easy, just put that cleaning thing under it after use, and let it do it. its full auto, so what if it takes 2 min at the end of your day?
      Also what this machine allows you to do is just leave the milk in the carton. So you dont need to clean any milk jug (unless you buy the extra ones), and you dont have to clean a milk glass.. (the one you need for auto steamwand frothers)
      IDK. pressing a button to have the machine clean itself once a day isnt an issue for me. i dont really understand why it would be for anyone.

    I have an Impressa Z5 which I have had for a few years now. I like this machine a lot because it has a touchscreen. I would love to get it. I will have to see if the touchscreen instructs as to the cleaning and new filter insertion processes. That would be really useful as if you want to do these things on the Impressa Z5 you have to leaf through the instruction booklet which is not very clear. In any event they are wonderful machines.

    We had a Jura Impressa Z9 One Touch TFT at work and it died after serving only 2000 cups over two years. Repair cost us about 500 usd. To sum it up the cost is equal to renting a machine. If you make coffee at home then you might as well buy a fully manual machine because there is the same amount of work cleaning the machine after one or two cups.

    I bought this and feel like it has potential but cannot find the right taste. It always seems bitter. Quite disappointing. With 3 bean or 4 bean strength and medium grind, always bitter. Does anyone have an ideal setting they would like to share? :) I use Illy espresso beans.

    A number of years ago I bought a Jura Z5. Beautiful machine but I had to return it because I couldn’t get the frothing unit to heat the milk above 120F. Since then I have only purchased machines that allow you to adjust the brew and milk temps. You did not mention any such controls on this machine so am I right in assuming that it does not have this capability?

    • @TotesCray
      @TotesCray Před 6 lety

      That's definitely one of my complaints, as well. My XS90 has a manual wand as well as the automatic system, so we end up just using that if we're having milk drinks. It takes some of the convenience out of having the one touch system to do everything, but the quality is significantly better with properly steamed milk, IMO.

  • @greatjaygatsby

    I heard a claim that you can't tell the difference between Jura espresso and a portafilter espresso. I would like to see a test review on that.

    • @bradcomis1066
      @bradcomis1066 Před 3 lety

      I used one for a week at the in-laws and it is not anything close to a portafilter machine. The espresso doesn’t extract many oils or crema- there is indeed some, but the mouth feel is very watery compared to a well pulled espresso. The flavour is much less also. If you’re the kind of person who wants a 10/10 coffee then this isn’t the machine for you, but if you want a drinkable coffee that is mega easy then it is quite good.

    So this is basically the successor of the S9...
    What do you get in comparison to the S9?
    - Aroma G3 grinder (also easily possible to add to the S9)
    - PEP
    - Touchscreen (known to break more easily than buttons)
    - One instead of two heating elements (downgrade)
    - Smaller water bin
    Only PEP is actually an upgrade.
