Making the Xbox 360 Region Free? - JTAG/RGH Region Unlocking Explained

- The Xbox 360 was somewhat region friendly due to region restrictions being imposed on a per game basis. Thankfully, this means many games released for the Xbox 360 are already region free, or are at least compatible in multiple regions, but many games are still restricted. Flashing the console's DVD drive will enable you to play backups of existing games, but does not do anything to defeat region restrictions, as region restrictions are imposed per game. However, thanks to the power of a hardmodded JTAG or RGH console, you might already have a region free Xbox 360! There isn't much in the way of a tutorial here, just more of an explanation and demonstration as to how this works for JTAG and RGH users.

So this works with RGh or JTAG (either of them) , but installing those apps AURORA and DASHLAUNCH? But I need to just follow the Aurora configuration Mrmario showed at other video? Please let me know if I got it properly. English is not my first language, so i just need confirmation or please correct me if I am wrong here. DOnt you need any especific firmware version before installing the RGH or the apps?

Here's a interesting question I have a Zephyr NTSC-J console that had Rrod. Would it work if I put the DVD drive that's in a us console say a reliable Jasper Xbox 360 as region on the DVD drive.
Hey man! Thanks, you're the best. May i ask you something? I have Xbox 360 E corona. But i use default fan config. Do you recommend me to use dashlaunch to increase fan speed? Or is it ok? CPU was 79 and gpu was 75 after 1 hours of Minecraft. Or should i add target temps? Or just use it on %50 fan speed? Thanks!!
You don't need to increase the fan speed, unless your console is rebooting while gaming or something like that, but even under this condition it's better to open the console to remove the dust and replace the thermal compound instead of over-speed the console fan. The 360 is not like the PS3, so its thermals are perfectly fine on stock configuration of 360S and 360E models . Only some earlier board revisions of the fat models are more likely to have thermal issues, but not like the fat ps3 that have a bad circuit design that affects almost every unit on medium and long term.
The day that 360 softmods exist will be the best day.

What is soft mode?
A question in my mind for long time and I've asked it for many youtubers and never got an answer.
I have XBox 360 E which comes with normal AV output, now using any regular AV cable will never give you an image on CRT TV no matter how good the quality of the cable, it is only the cable that came with it that gives an image and since I am living in Syria it is impossible to get original parts and was thinking of using regular cable to save the original one.
I just want to know why is that happening, is it because of some secret design in the original cable or what?

The component cables had a toggle switch on the side for SD and HD, depending on your setup. Sounds like it might be that.

for sure I have tried many of them and none had worked for me no matter if it is cheap one or expensive one
So there is no switch on the cable neither on the console
@@holako80 The Xbox 360 E doesn't support component/composite video. It only supports standard definition AV. This stupid idea, was based on the assumption that people would use HDMI for high definition and AV for standard definition. Long story short, you can't use AV cables from the original Xbox 360 or the Xbox 360 S on the Xbox 360 E either. You can only use the Xbox 360 E's standard AV cable, unlike the old Xbox 360's, as they could use any of the aforementioned. (Even though the cable fits in the back of the console, it still won't work)

@@joederbo6151Old thread I know, but I’m just researching some of this myself in preparation for using an RGH3 360S (Corona) as well as potentially modding a 360E (Corona).
So all these little bits of info are important.
I had no idea this was a limitation of the 360E but this is yet another reason to potentially avoid that model & stick with the S. Really dumb decision to remove component HD output from the E.
@mjswoosh No worries. So basically the E model lacks the hardware inside to output HD. So even if you could get an adapter or a different plug, it won't display on screen.
If I wanted to produce homebrew or mods on disc would I have to do any kind of modding. And how does the region locking work?
If I burn a disc with a modded game how could I get it to run as a game and not a DVD?
Still though - if you have a PAL system with RGH - you should change the region to NTSC anyway (when preparing the system update for RGH you can swap the region), as original xbox games will still run at PAL settings (regardless the region of the game itself!!) plus PAL xbox 360 does not allow you to use VGA cable with xbox classic games (it's totally dumb but it really is a thing)

Could you please make a video tutorial on install a ACEV5 chip on a XBOX 360 slim, I heard these days u can just install with no programming.
For me though that even 360 rgh/jtag is region locked too is due back when had xbox 360 xenon jtag I did not have that setting changed and import games did not work and had to backup patch game to pal region. After that never tried other region disk even on my rgh and though would have to reflash nand to different region. Good to know it is that simple to play any region games
Maybe back when you were doing it? Not sure what else to tell you, as I demonstrated right here digital and physical imports work just fine.
I did not have lot homebrew on it because scene was new. Region was set on pal on it nand. That xenon broke around 2010 or so and was without 360 a while and missed some of things for that reason

Hello. I have a big question and i really hope you can help me. Im from chile, south america and i would like to buy a dvd movie from usa. But usa is dvd zone 1, and chile is zone 4. However, i have an xbox 360 with RGH unlock witch allow me play alternative video games and still reproduce original dvds.

I've personally never tried that, so I can't accurately answer that. This works fine for games but I have no idea for DVD Video discs.

I have one XBOX 360 Slim (RGH3) PAL version... Is there a way to convert the video output to NTSC version? I'm asking you that because there is something REALLY STRANGE happening with me. I'm trying to play Dirt (the rally game) on 1080p on this XBOX 360 Slim but it's really laggy. My TV is reporting 1080p60p but it looks like I'm playing on 25fps or even 12,5fps sometimes. If I select a resolution like 1440x900 the TV now changes to 60 Hz instead of 60p and the game runs smoothly. I believe the progressive-scan is not working propertly. I don't remember if the game is USA or Europe version (does it make any difference on a XBOX 360 RGH?) I would appreciate if you could explain how to do this conversion between PAL and NTSC (if possible). Thank you very much.
I have no experience editing that firsthand, but I wish you the best of luck! If you're going to make any changes like that, be sure to have some soldering skills and a NAND flasher handy in case of a brick!

This is one of those things where I assumed it was cryptographically enforced. I.E. you can't even load it because it couldn't decrypt it, but I'm happy to be wrong.

The HDDs are not region locked, if that's what you're asking.

Latest xbox 360 games were already region free, it sucked when I bought Eternal sonata cause it was the pal version.

Xbox One is already region free, although a Chinese Xbox One? That might be exclusively locked down compared to others, although I know nothing of those models. You might need to purchase one outside of China.

You can play around in the SMC config if you want to, although not really needed since it will work fine via HDMI

Achievements can still be unlocked, but you can't take a hardmodded console online without a ban risk.

Theoretically, yes, although always a risk. I can at least say that years ago I saw a person who did several tests with their Gamertag on a hardmodded system, the overall consensus was that your profile shouldn't get "dirty" as long as you don't run ANY homebrew while signed into it.
That includes homebrew that makes obvious changes, such as Achievements on SNES360. That also includes homebrew that doesn't make any obvious changes, such as Freestyle 3, Aurora, XexMenu, etc.
Really the best idea would be to keep your profile on a USB drive then when you're on your RGH or JTAG, you boot up your game first THEN you sign into your profile. Once you're done playing, sign out of your profile or turn off the console. That way in theory your profile should remain "clean" so to speak since it is only being used in-game.

Needing a early model to do this was one of the most disappointing things of the 360 scene, reeaaallly wanted to play that Vampire Nazi JRPG on my euro 360 that only came out in US/Jp, but alas it was not meant to be.

On an RGH Xbox 360 can I play any region Disc? Reason I ask is because I would love to legitimately get the Forza Motorsport 2 Complete Collection with the 2nd disc with all the DLC but can't find if it will work on my RGH? Reason I can't test is because it hasn't arrived yet.

If there is any I am pretty sure person who found it will keep it private. Xbox 360 got thing called Efuses that are burnt after each update and if any way run usigned code is discovered ms could patch it and burn fuses. There used to be king kong exploit on prenxe dash that allowed run unsigned code with just flashed dvd drive but ms had pretty much pacthed it once came public. Not saying do not want softmod just saying why it takes time and I assume way do it like savegame exploit or similar will be discovered some day after 360 live is shutted down and been done quite while

There's some good news. Xbox 360 emulation is getting good. Halo 3 runs really well.
Xenia has gone long way since release. I remember early version where most games had low fps or crashed on some point. Now performance and compability is way better on same hw that had those issues. Also they are porting it linux so no longer need use wine and dxvk to run it.

Dont worry man, almost everyone play xbox 360 offline so it doesnt matter if you play 360 online games cuz almost game servers are eventually shuts it down

@@ISAK.M It will probably happen soon after the Series X release as Microsoft will turn off lots of servers for the Xbox one and the support for downloading games will fal down, then people will unlock it for the use of any ripped games.
Hope I'm wrong but it will be some time before it will be hacked. Microsoft did a one hour presentation on the Xbox one security. They mentioned the RGH on the 360. So any similar reset glitch hack will be much harder to pull off on Xbox one.

Tutorial for what? Most RGH/JTAG users would already have Dashlaunch without realizing it, which is set like this by default.

I am locked out of the second hand market because my xbox 360 is a PAL while most xbox 360s here in Singapore are NTSC-J so most copies of games are NTSC-J so i have to buy the games on ebay uk.
