They are very pretty and they spin for quite awhile! I hope the grand kids enjoy them!

I can't wait to get on a few of these! (Nice Lathe by the way! Envy...) I have kits and some scraps for small turns like drawer knobs for small trinket boxes, but my Son just helped me out by taking down a small ornamental that is colored like cedar, and I kept a few cutoffs from that thing that measure about 4" in diameter; I figure that'll be a great use for that piece of wood, if only to try it out! I had the spinning / string technique all wrong in my head! Now that you showed it, I remember seeing it once on TV a long time ago! Makes me think of turning Yo-Yos too.... Great video!

Thank you for your wonderful comment and enthusiasm! I'm thrilled that you found the video inspiring and enjoyable. Working with cedar sounds like a fantastic idea, and those cutoffs you mentioned are perfect for crafting spinning tops. It's incredible how revisiting traditional techniques can ignite fresh creativity, isn't it? Oh, and speaking of new projects, if you're interested, I recently posted a video about Yo-Yos on my channel. Here's the link if you'd like to check it out: czcams.com/video/N1GwYLV7m3Y/video.html. I'd love to hear about your experience if you decide to give it a try. Happy crafting and turning! 😊
