    I was somewhat skeptical about this but I was in lots of pain. I cut out all exercises, iced 3 times a day and massaged my shoulder and bicep as demonstrated above. After 2 weeks, I switched to heat and kept massaging. After 5 weeks, my shoulder and bicep were pain free and I started light stretching and exercising. At 7 weeks, I am almost back to full strength. Thank you, guys, this really did the trick for me.

      Just as Sophomore :D said below, that's going to be the hardest part for me if I commit to doing this - not working out! My biceps tendon on my left shoulder has been killing me for just about 2-3 years. It started right after I had biceps tenodesis surgery on my right shoulder. All MRIs came back negative for any tears on my left shoulder though. I've already gone through physical therapy but no dice. Medication doesn't work and I notice that lifting does often irritate it more. Maybe the key is COMPLETE rest for a little while. This may be my last resort...

    Watched dozens of vids none, of them got it right. Followed your diagnosis method, 1st negative, 2nd negative, 3rd positive.
    Started doing the massage 4x5 mins every other day a week ago. This fixed it for 90% in a week.

    I discovered I have a torn long head bicep tendon in my dominant arm a few months ago only because I noticed the muscle looked funny (the Popeye look). An orthopedic surgeon confirmed it and told me that generally the only reason people surgically reattach it is for cosmetic reasons. He could not believe that I did not feel pain when it detached. Over the years (I'm now 63) I've had shoulder pain (both sides) on and off so maybe that was bicep tendinitis. Who knows. All I know is right now my arms and shoulders are essentially pain free and I'm continuing with my routine of sets of pull ups and pushups in the park and light weights in the gym. I have a feeling some day the other one will detach, maybe it's hereditary. But for my age I'm in great health and super active. John Elway won two superbowls with a detached long head tendon in his throwing arm!

    • @csm1813
      @csm1813 Před rokem +1

      I wish mine would detach like that--I actually need to go thru surgery to get that result to deal with a labral tear! (tenotomy) And that is a very cool factoid about Elway--my surgeon kept trying to convince I wouldn't notice the 5% loss of strength and I'm like, I need ALL my strength because I have so little.

    • @exalhoa
      @exalhoa Před rokem

      @@csm1813 As soon as the doctor mentioned Elway I knew where he was going with it because I happened to be in Denver that summer for business and it was all the local press was covering it seemed. "Will he play or won't he"?? Update at 11. lol. At that time I did not pay any attention to the specifics of his injury but when the surgeon brought it up I was definitely relieved. Still no issues, it just looks funny. Banged out 50 pullups today at the park. Good luck!

    • @exalhoa
      @exalhoa Před 7 měsíci

      @@mnp8211 I don't do much TBH. After seeing the orthopedic surgeon I saw a physical therapist for one session and she recommended bicep stretches, which I do fairly regularly, and internal and external shoulder rotation exercises using a band. I do those once or twice a week. I still do the workouts I mentioned in my OP. Other than occasional weird twitchy feelings (from what's left of the tendon) everything is fine. I have arthritis in the wrist of that arm from an old injury and that bothers me more than the bicep issue in day to day activities. Good luck.

    Dear Bob and Brad, my husband I go to you here for everything and are so grateful for your generous videos, they have helped us over the years. My husband tore something this morning at work, the bicep definitely looks like the popeye type now. sounds like a proximinal tear...He's at the Dr right now, just want to know how you guys deal with those. Thankyou

    Thank you for helping me figure out what was causing my pain. I kept watching your shoulder videos when I stumbled onto this one. Definitely the bicep tendon. Fabulous video(s). Keep them coming.

    Just wanted to say thank you so much for your channel!! I do martial arts and am very active. I have had some injuries, and just having more information about my body has been really empowering and I have been able to take care of my body better. Of course, it doesn’t replace seeing a doctor, but knowledge is power!

    I strained mine to the point doing hammer curls and just rotating from pronation to supination their was pain. Lifting a plate was crippling pain so iced it and then began lifting light weights on it where pain was very little and now it's much better where I can move plates around no pain.

      III Eagle III yea bro I put ice to that area and massaged it with essential oil in between for about 4 times a day, and I was good within 3 weeks😊. This video is good, and I can CONFIRM this works😊

      I went to a PT. They simply said don’t use/lift weights with it. I took the advice for one week, it was better. I’ve increased my activity and it is now back. I think a prolonged rest my do it good/repair any micro-tears.

    Thank you much for that massage therapy trick. I was worried this was a rotator cuff at first.

    My arm doesn't hurt if I aligned it with my body and bring it straight up ( upward motion like jumping jacks), but the side of my biceps will hurt if I first bend at the elbow and then go with the same motion. It doesn't hurt as bad but it is stopping me from doing certain activities.

    So my issue is where the bicep tendon inserts in the lower part, I believe it's the distal bicep tendon. Any ideas on how to fix that?

    • @favor9677
      @favor9677 Před 4 lety +11

      I would recommend taking your thumb of opposite hand and separating the 2 biceps bellies and then try to lift away the bellies away from the bone individually. Work down to brachioradialis (outer forearm muscle) and do the same. Doing this on outer half of biceps and forearm is easier than inner half but do your best. Great way to massage and get more bloodflow to the area. Obviously if you have torn something all bets are off. In future when you are doing biceps curls, along with doing it the traditional way, it is very important to turn forearms about 30-40 degrees away from trunk while locking elbows against the trunk when doing biceps curls to give the biceps a more thorough workout with less future chance of injury.
